There is no evidence-based overall winner between the Samsung S84F and LG B5. The S84F is documented here as a 77-inch 2025 Samsung OLED, while LG’s B5 is a 2025 series sold in 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch sizes. LG publishes a fuller feature list, but the available independent head-to-head comparison tests the Samsung S85F, not the S84F. Treating S85F measurements as S84F results would be misleading.
Choose the LG B5 when its officially listed Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10 Pro, Filmmaker Mode and 120Hz-class gaming features match your sources and console or PC. Choose the S84F only after confirming the exact size SKU’s HDR formats, HDMI and VRR specifications, price, warranty and return terms. Compare same-size checkout prices rather than launch or product-page figures collected on different dates.

What the Samsung S84F and LG B5 actually are
Samsung S84F: the documented model
Samsung’s U.S. product page identifies the 77-inch QN77S84FAEXZA as a 2025 4K OLED Samsung Vision AI smart TV. The page displayed $1,599.99 when accessed on October 13, 2026. That is a time-specific listing price for one 77-inch SKU, not a market-wide price and not a promise that the same amount will be available at checkout later. Check the Samsung S84F product page for the exact model number and current listing.
The accessible Samsung page extract does not establish the complete S84F specifications needed for a strict technical comparison. In particular, it does not settle the size-specific HDR formats, HDMI bandwidth or count, VRR support, maximum refresh rate, or whether panel implementation varies by screen size. Those are purchase-critical details, so do not fill the gaps with specifications from another Samsung model.

LG B5: a four-size 2025 range
LG announced the 2025 B5 family in the United States in 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch sizes. Its current U.S. product page represents the 55-inch OLED55B5PUA and exposes size-based price listings, including a 77-inch option. The announcement and product page are different sources with different dates and purposes; neither should be treated as a live, size-matched market quote.
LG describes the B5 as having more than 8.3 million self-lit smart pixels. That is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independently measured picture-quality result. The launch announcement also lists Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10 Pro, FILMMAKER MODE, NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, VRR and refresh rates up to 120Hz. These are official feature claims; they do not by themselves establish brightness, color accuracy, input lag or motion performance in your room.
The most important evidence limitation: S85F is not S84F
The available independent comparison from RTINGS is explicitly titled for the Samsung S85F OLED and LG B5 OLED. It is not a test of the S84F. Measurements, processing observations, gaming results, viewing-angle findings and any score in that comparison must remain labeled S85F findings. They cannot be relabeled as S84F performance simply because the model names are similar.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse the RTINGS S85F/B5 comparison only to understand what was measured in that particular matchup. Before applying any conclusion to an S84F purchase, verify that the exact S84F size and regional SKU has the same relevant hardware. If a retailer or review quotes S85F data while listing an S84F, ask for clarification rather than assuming the panels and electronics are interchangeable.

HDR and movie playback: decide from your sources
HDR compatibility matters only in relation to the content you actually watch. LG officially lists Dolby Vision, HDR10 Pro and FILMMAKER MODE for the B5. If your streaming services, discs or game library use Dolby Vision, the B5 has an explicitly documented format match. FILMMAKER MODE is intended for viewers who want a presentation closer to a filmmaker-oriented preset, although the final image still depends on room light, content mastering and the TV’s processing.

The supplied S84F material does not identify the exact model’s HDR format support. Do not assume that an S84F accepts every format used by your devices, and do not infer support from the S85F comparison. Ask Samsung or the retailer for the specification sheet tied to QN77S84FAEXZA, or to the exact size SKU you intend to buy.
A practical HDR checklist
- List the services and devices you use for HDR, including a disc player, streaming box, game console and PC.
- Record whether each source outputs Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ or another format.
- Match those outputs against the exact TV SKU’s published format list, not a family name or a similarly numbered model.
- Check whether your receiver or soundbar passes the required video signal before connecting it between the source and TV.
- Use the retailer’s return window to test the sources you care about; a format that works on paper can still expose compatibility problems with a particular chain of devices.
Gaming: what is confirmed and what still needs checking
LG’s B5 launch materials list NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, VRR and refresh rates up to 120Hz. That combination is relevant to a current console or gaming PC, but “up to 120Hz” is not a promise that every input, resolution and color mode reaches 120Hz. Confirm the supported combinations in the manual for the size you purchase.
No equivalent S84F gaming specification is established in the supplied material. Before paying for the Samsung, verify the number and type of HDMI inputs, whether 4K at 120Hz is supported, the available VRR standards, and whether all desired features work simultaneously. Also check whether your console, graphics card, receiver and cables can deliver the mode you want; the television cannot add bandwidth that the rest of the chain lacks.
Questions to ask a gaming retailer
- Which HDMI input supports the highest refresh rate at 4K?
- Does VRR operate with the console or PC platform you use?
- Are HDR and VRR available together at the target resolution?
- Can the set pass audio to your receiver while gaming at the desired refresh rate?
- Is the answer for the exact S84F or B5 size and regional model number, rather than a related model?
Sizes and prices: make an apples-to-apples comparison
| Model or information | Size | Price information | Date and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung S84F QN77S84FAEXZA | 77 inches | $1,599.99 displayed | Samsung U.S. page observed October 13, 2026; volatile listing price. |
| LG B5 product page listing | 55 inches | $1,499.99 displayed | LG U.S. page observed October 13, 2026; listing price can change. |
| LG B5 product page listing | 77 inches | $2,999 displayed | LG U.S. page observed October 13, 2026; listing price can change. |
| LG B5 launch announcement | 83 inches | $4,499 launch price | Historical U.S. launch price announced May 12, 2025; not a current deal. |
These figures are not a direct value ranking. The Samsung figure is for a 77-inch listing, the LG page showed prices for specific sizes at a later access point, and the $4,499 B5 figure is a historical launch price. Promotions, stock, taxes, delivery, installation and retailer-specific warranties can change the amount you actually pay. Open both manufacturers’ pages, select the same diagonal size, then compare the final checkout total and return terms.
For a 77-inch comparison, the relevant question is whether the current S84F checkout price is lower or higher than the current 77-inch B5 price after discounts and delivery. The displayed numbers above cannot answer that permanently because they are volatile observations.

Which TV fits which buyer?
Choose the B5 when format support is your priority
The B5 is the safer documented choice for a buyer who specifically needs Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10 Pro or FILMMAKER MODE. LG also publishes gaming features that are not established for the S84F in the supplied evidence. That does not make the B5 universally better; it means LG has disclosed more of the specifications that matter to this decision.
Consider the S84F when the exact deal and ecosystem win
The S84F can make sense if you want a 77-inch Samsung OLED and the verified, same-size price is compelling. Samsung’s product page identifies the model and its Samsung Vision AI smart-TV positioning. If your household already relies on Samsung devices or services, check the interface, app availability and control features in person or through the retailer’s return policy. Do not let ecosystem familiarity substitute for confirming HDR and HDMI details.
Wait or gather more specifications when gaming is non-negotiable
If 4K/120Hz gaming, a particular VRR standard or a specific number of HDMI inputs is mandatory, do not buy the S84F until Samsung documents those points for your exact SKU. The B5 has published claims, but you should still verify input-specific limitations. A small price difference is less important than discovering after delivery that a required port or mode is missing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Room conditions and reflections: avoid unsupported assumptions
OLED televisions are self-lit displays, but the supplied evidence does not provide directly measured brightness, anti-reflection performance or room-specific results for the S84F and B5 matchup. Do not declare either set the brighter or better daylight TV from the model names alone. Ask for measurements of the exact size and model, and examine both screens under the lighting in your room if possible.
Map the proposed installation before ordering. Identify windows and lamps that reflect toward the screen, measure the viewing distance, and decide whether daytime viewing is as important as movie nights. A return policy is particularly valuable when showroom lighting differs from your home. Keep the packaging until you have tested the TV at the times of day when you normally watch.

A reliable buying process
- Write down the exact model numbers. For Samsung, the documented example is QN77S84FAEXZA. For LG, select the precise B5 size and regional suffix, such as OLED55B5PUA, rather than searching only for “B5 OLED.”
- Set the size requirement. Compare 77 inches with 77 inches, or deliberately choose a smaller B5 if your room or budget calls for it. Do not compare an 83-inch launch price with a 55-inch listing.
- Inventory your sources. Note every console, PC, streaming box, disc player, receiver and soundbar, then record its HDR, audio and refresh-rate requirements.
- Verify the missing S84F specifications. Obtain the official sheet for your size and region covering HDR formats, HDMI inputs, refresh rates, VRR and audio return behavior.
- Check the B5’s input details. LG’s headline claims are useful, but confirm which ports support the gaming mode and whether your desired combination of HDR and VRR is supported.
- Compare live checkout totals. Include shipping, installation, taxes, recycling fees and any required stand or mount. Record the date because prices and stock change.
- Read warranty and return conditions. Confirm the coverage period, exclusions, dead-pixel policy, return freight and whether the retailer charges a restocking fee for a large television.
- Buy from a source that identifies the SKU. A listing that hides the suffix can deliver a regional variant with different ports or tuners.
- Test immediately. Check every HDMI source, HDR format, VRR mode, app, audio connection and viewing position during the return window.
Installation and first-week checks
Before mounting
- Verify the carton label against the invoice and product page.
- Inspect the panel and connectors before removing protective film or wall-mounting.
- Confirm that your mount is rated for the television’s exact size and weight; compatibility for a particular accessory is not established by the supplied evidence.
- Leave ventilation space specified by the manufacturer and keep power and HDMI cables free of sharp bends.
After connecting sources
- Update the TV through its own settings before judging apps or device compatibility.
- Enable the appropriate HDR mode on each source and confirm that the TV reports the expected signal.
- Test every HDMI input you plan to use, including the one connected through a receiver.
- Run a console or PC game at the target resolution and refresh rate, then test VRR with HDR enabled if that is your normal setup.
- Play familiar dark and bright scenes at daytime and nighttime viewing levels. Record problems with photos or video for a return or support request.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Using S85F numbers to sell an S84F
This is the most serious comparison error. The available RTINGS page names S85F. If a listing quotes its brightness, input lag or gaming behavior, label it as S85F information and seek S84F verification.
Calling a launch price a current bargain
The B5’s $4,499 83-inch figure was announced on May 12, 2025. It is useful historical context, not a current checkout price. Likewise, the observed Samsung and LG page prices can change. Date every price and identify its size.
Assuming a series has identical specifications at every size
LG confirms four B5 sizes, while the accessible Samsung evidence confirms one 77-inch S84F SKU. Panel hardware, ports and regional features can vary. Read the manual or specification sheet for the exact diagonal you are ordering.
Choosing by a feature logo alone
Dolby Vision, G-Sync, FreeSync Premium or a 120Hz label describes compatibility, not the complete viewing experience. Check the input, resolution, cable, source device and simultaneous-feature limits that apply to your setup.
Bottom line for a 2025 budget-OLED decision
Buy the LG B5 when its documented format and gaming support align with your equipment and the same-size price is acceptable. It is the better-supported choice on paper because LG publishes more of the relevant specifications. Buy the Samsung S84F only after the exact SKU’s missing specifications are confirmed and the live 77-inch deal, warranty and return policy beat the B5 alternative for your priorities.
Neither choice should be declared the universal winner from the available evidence. The fairest decision is conditional: match screen size, verify the signal features you actually use, compare current checkout totals, and keep a return route open until the television passes your own HDR, gaming, audio and room-light tests.
