Yes. The Samsung Galaxy S20 has a dedicated Night camera mode. Open Camera, swipe to More, choose Night, frame the scene, and press the shutter. Samsung lists the Galaxy S20 and S20 FE as supported phones, although the exact menu can vary with the model, region, and installed software.
Where Night mode is on the Galaxy S20
Night mode is not usually displayed in the first row of shooting modes. Samsung places it in the camera app’s expanded mode list:

- Open the Camera app.
- Swipe across the camera modes until you see More.
- Tap More, then select Night.
- Compose the picture and tap the shutter button.
On supported phone and tablet models, zoom controls remain available while Night mode is selected. The exact controls and lens options can differ by model and software build, so do not assume that every S20 variant exposes identical zoom levels in this mode.

Samsung’s UK support documentation explicitly includes the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 FE among phones with Night mode. Samsung’s S20 product and specification materials also describe low-light capture across the S20 family, but use different names for some variants.

| Model | Samsung feature wording | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S20 | Bright Night | Samsung documents Night mode and the Camera → More → Night path. |
| Galaxy S20+ | Bright Night | Samsung’s S20-series specification material lists Bright Night. |
| Galaxy S20 Ultra | Ultra Bright Night | Samsung uses the Ultra Bright Night label in its specification material. |
| Galaxy S20 FE | Night mode | Samsung UK lists the S20 FE as a supported phone. |
These names are Samsung’s feature labels. They do not, by themselves, prove that one model produces better low-light photographs than another. A controlled comparison would need the same scene, lens, exposure conditions, and software version; the cited Samsung material does not provide such a test.
What Night mode actually does
Night mode is computational photography rather than a single long exposure from one frame. The phone captures several frames over a period of seconds, aligns useful image information, and combines it into a brighter photograph. Samsung describes the S20 camera as merging multiple photos to reduce blur and noise in low light.
Samsung’s current general Night mode support page says its processing can combine 30 images. That is a general Galaxy description, not a guaranteed S20-specific frame count. The number can vary with the phone’s software, selected lens, exposure, scene, and other camera decisions. Treat it as an explanation of the processing approach rather than a specification that every S20 Night shot always uses exactly 30 frames.

A reliable way to shoot a night photo
Choose a stable subject and position
Start with a building, street, landscape, table, or other scene that will remain mostly still during capture. Rest the S20 against a solid surface if a tripod is unavailable. Avoid holding the phone at arm’s length when you can brace your elbows or hands against something firm.
Let the camera settle
After selecting Night, keep the phone pointed at the composition while the camera determines its exposure. Do not move immediately after pressing the shutter. Samsung Business Insights’ S20 camera guidance states: “For the best results, use a tripod and timer mode to reduce movement.” A tripod and timer are optional aids, not requirements for opening or using the built-in mode.
Use the appropriate lens
Night mode may offer different lenses or zoom controls depending on the S20 variant and software. A wider lens often makes it easier to keep the phone steady, while high magnification makes hand movement more visible. If a zoomed view looks unstable or unusually dark, try a less magnified option and move closer only when it is safe and practical.

Review the image at full size in Gallery. Look for ghosting around lights, soft edges caused by movement, crushed shadows, and highlights that have lost detail. If the subject is blurred, repeat the shot with better support rather than assuming the mode is unavailable or defective.

Why Samsung calls it Bright Night on some pages
Samsung used several related labels for low-light photography during the S20 generation. Its Malaysia S20 camera material describes Bright Night and shows the expanded camera-mode flow. The US S20-series specification sheet lists Bright Night for the S20 and S20+ and Ultra Bright Night for the S20 Ultra.
In the camera interface, however, the shooting mode is generally presented as Night after you open More. “Bright Night” and “Ultra Bright Night” describe Samsung’s product positioning and naming; they are not separate menu instructions that you must locate instead of Night.
If Night is missing from the menu
Samsung cautions that Night mode availability can vary by model and software version. Work through these checks in order:
- Open More. Night is normally outside the main horizontal mode strip, so swiping only through Photo and Video can make it appear absent.
- Confirm the exact model. Check Settings → About phone and note the model name and number. S20-family names are similar, and regional editions can expose different camera features.
- Check the installed software. In Settings → Software update, review whether an update is available. Camera menus can change after system or camera updates.
- Restart the phone. A restart can clear a temporary camera-app problem that prevents a mode from loading correctly.
- Reopen Camera and inspect More again. If the mode remains absent, record the model number and software version before contacting Samsung support.
There is no single universal fix documented for every regional S20 build. Do not install an unrelated camera application simply because the menu is different; first establish whether your particular model and software version are supposed to expose the mode.

What results to expect in different scenes
Static city scenes
Buildings, signs, and distant lights are good candidates because they remain still while multiple frames are captured. Keep bright lamps near the edge of the frame under control; computational brightening can make already-bright points look harsh.
People and pets
Night mode can work for a person who stays still, but even small movements during the capture interval can soften facial features or create outlines around hands. For an active pet or child, a normal Photo exposure may produce a more usable moment despite being darker.
Moving traffic and water
Headlights, taillights, cyclists, and flowing water change position between frames. The resulting image may contain streaks or ghosting. Brace the phone and take several attempts, but understand that the mode is not designed to freeze fast action in darkness.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Very dark interiors
Night mode can reveal more shadow detail than a standard exposure, but it cannot recover information that the camera sensor did not record. Expect noise, muted colors, or loss of detail in extremely dark areas. A nearby constant light can improve the scene more than increasing zoom.

Does the S20 Ultra’s “Ultra Bright Night” mean better quality?
Samsung’s label indicates a difference in its product naming and camera hardware description, not a published quality ranking. The available Samsung material distinguishes the names but does not report an independently measured S20-versus-S20+-versus-Ultra Night mode comparison. The same caution applies to the S20 FE: documented support confirms availability, not a guaranteed level of image quality relative to another S20 model.
Results depend on the lens selected, scene brightness, movement, phone support, software version, and how the image is viewed. A larger camera specification on paper does not remove those practical limits.
Do you need an extra app or accessory?
No. Night mode is part of the Samsung Camera app on supported S20-family phones, so a paid camera application is not required. Samsung’s tripod and timer recommendation is about reducing movement during multi-frame capture. A small phone tripod can help for architecture, landscapes, and other static scenes, but the built-in mode works without one.

How Night mode differs from ordinary Photo mode
Ordinary Photo mode prioritizes a quick capture and may use a shorter exposure when the scene is dark. Night mode deliberately spends more time collecting and combining frames so that the final image can be brighter. That extra processing explains both its advantage in static darkness and its vulnerability to movement.
If you need to capture an unpredictable moment, try Photo mode first. If the subject is still and the scene is too dark, switch to Night and give the phone time to complete the exposure. Comparing the two shots on the phone’s screen is often more useful than judging brightness while framing.
