What Samsung has confirmed—and what remains a report
MoneyToday reported that Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division was adjusting smartphone production, with cuts of up to 30%. The outlet also described a supplier instruction and forward-looking loss estimates. Those details are attributed to MoneyToday; Samsung’s July 30 Q2 results do not announce a specific production cut.

Samsung did report an operating loss of KRW 0.7 trillion for its combined MX and Networks businesses in Q2 2026, citing “elevated component cost pressures across the industry” as a factor in lower MX earnings. Why memory costs matter to phone production
Samsung’s 1Q26 interim report puts a number on the pressure: the price of memory for mobile increased approximately 107% compared with the previous year’s annual average. The comparison is about mobile memory prices, not retail phone prices or all component costs. For a phone maker, higher component costs can narrow the margin on each device. Raising prices may help recover some of that cost, but can make buyers more reluctant to upgrade. MoneyToday’s report frames the production adjustment as an attempt to manage that trade-off; Samsung has not publicly tied a particular output decision to that explanation in the results reviewed here.
Demand and timing may add to the pressure
MoneyToday also points to several demand-side factors: weaker seasonal demand in the fourth quarter, some buyers waiting for next year’s launches, and longer replacement cycles. It says passing higher component costs on to consumers is difficult when sales volumes could fall as prices rise. These are explanations in the outlet’s reporting, not causes Samsung specifically disclosed for a production cut.

The report quotes Kim Sun-woo, a researcher at Meritz Securities, describing rising memory’s share of finished-product costs and the difficulty of avoiding losses when price increases reduce sales volume. MoneyToday’s English page notes that it was translated using AI and may differ slightly from the original, so the translated wording should be read with that qualification. MoneyToday separately reported an 11.6% increase in the Galaxy S26’s ex-factory price beginning in October. An ex-factory price is not the same as the retail price paid by customers, and the report does not establish an identical change in every market. Samsung cited S26-series sales in its Q2 results and said its H2 flagship focus would include the series; that product context does not verify the reported production cut.
SamMobile reported a 2026 production estimate of 200 million, down from an earlier 270 million, and a 175% year-over-year RAM price rise. These are secondary-source figures, not figures established as Samsung guidance in the company materials reviewed. The RAM comparison also differs in scope and baseline from Samsung’s approximately 107% mobile-memory figure, so the numbers should not be combined as if they measured the same thing. Will this make Samsung phones more expensive or harder to find?
The reporting does not establish that a production reduction, if implemented as described, will cause a retail price increase or shortages. The reported ex-factory change is not a universal retail-price measure, and production plans alone do not show how prices or availability will change in individual markets. Samsung’s half-year business report was listed on its investor-relations site on September 1, 2026, but that listing does not confirm the later-reported Q4 adjustment.
