Filter location, installation motion, flush amount, and reset controls differ across models and regions, so there is no one universal Samsung filter code or procedure.
Find the correct replacement filter
Check the refrigerator’s model number and use Samsung’s Fridge Water Filter Finder to identify a compatible cartridge. You can also check the owner’s manual or read the part code on the filter already installed. Match the full code before ordering; appearance alone is not a reliable compatibility check.

Samsung Canada’s guide covers internal filter codes HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAF-CU1, but those codes do not cover every Samsung refrigerator or every market. The Samsung Canada replacement guide and Samsung US replacement guide both emphasize model-specific instructions. Samsung recommends using its genuine filters; that is the manufacturer’s recommendation, not an independent comparison of filter performance.

Before removing the old cartridge
Use the refrigerator’s manual to locate the filter compartment and confirm how the installed cartridge unlocks. Samsung says location and removal details vary by model. If the instructions you find do not match your appliance, stop and check the manual for its exact model rather than forcing the filter.

- Have the compatible replacement ready and keep a towel near the compartment for drips.
- If the model’s instructions call for it, shut off the water supply. Dispense water until flow stops to relieve pressure before removing the cartridge.
Replace the filter
- Open the filter cover or compartment as described in the model’s manual.
- Unlock the old cartridge using its intended motion, then pull it out. Catch residual water with the towel.
- Remove the replacement filter’s protective cap if one is present.
- Insert the new cartridge in the specified direction. Turn or push it as directed until it locks, and check that its alignment mark, notch, or lock position matches the housing indicator. Do not force it.
- Close the compartment and restore the water supply if you shut it off.
Flush the line and reset the reminder
After installation, dispense and discard water as directed in the refrigerator’s manual. Flush instructions differ by model and region: Samsung Canada’s guide says about seven minutes or 10–12 large glasses for the procedures it describes, while Samsung’s US guide says to dispense several gallons. These are regional manufacturer instructions, not a single universal quantity. Samsung UK also publishes regional guidance in its water-filter instructions.
Reset the filter indicator using the control-panel or touchscreen instructions for your model. The button or menu path varies, so do not rely on a reset sequence from a different Samsung refrigerator. The indicator is a reminder timer, not a measurement of the filter’s condition.

Check for leaks and resolve fit problems
Once the water is back on, check around the cartridge and housing for leaks and confirm that water dispenses normally. If the filter will not lock, flow remains slow, or water leaks, stop using the dispenser and check the model number, cartridge code, protective cap, orientation, and lock position.

When to replace the filter
Samsung recommends replacing the water filter every six months and says local water quality and dispenser use can affect when replacement is needed. Treat six months as manufacturer guidance, not an independently verified lifespan guarantee. The indicator is intended as a reminder; follow the appliance’s instructions and replace sooner if its guidance or conditions call for it.
