The Samsung R95H shows how far RGB-backlit TVs have come: in TechRadar’s tests, it combined strong full-screen HDR brightness with a screen that subdued mirror-like reflections more effectively than the LG G6 OLED. But it did not beat that OLED overall. The G6 delivered deeper contrast and richer-looking color, while the R95H’s backlight could still produce blooming when viewed off-axis. The R95H is best understood as a compelling next-generation Mini LED alternative for bright rooms, not a universal upgrade over elite OLED.
What is Samsung Micro RGB?
Samsung announced its 2026 Micro RGB lineup, including the flagship R95H and R85H series, on April 14, 2026. Unlike OLED, where each pixel emits its own light, Micro RGB uses a backlight made from thousands of tiny red, green and blue LEDs that emit light independently. Samsung says this design is intended to limit color bleed and expand the range of color the TV can reproduce. Those are the manufacturer’s claims; they should not be confused with independent test findings. Samsung Newsroom’s launch announcement describes the technology and lineup.

“RGB Mini LED” is also used in the market to describe this kind of RGB backlighting. The essential distinction for a buyer is that the R95H remains a backlit TV: it can control light and color in its backlight, but it does not have OLED’s self-emissive pixels.

Bright images across the screen
TechRadar measured the R95H at 1,977 nits on a 10% HDR window and 612 nits full-screen in HDR Filmmaker Mode. In the same review’s measurements of Samsung’s S95H/S99H, those figures were 2,739 nits on a 10% window and 449 nits full-screen. The ranking changes with the size of the bright area: the Samsung OLED comparison set produced the higher small-window peak, while the R95H held higher brightness across the full screen. These are TechRadar’s readings under its test methods and picture-mode conditions, not guaranteed results for every unit or setting. TechRadar’s R95H review reports the measurements.

Less distracting reflections in a bright room
In TechRadar’s side-by-side comparison with the LG G6 OLED, the R95H’s matte Glare Free screen reduced mirror-like reflections more effectively. That can matter more than peak HDR brightness if windows or lamps reflect directly off the screen. A matte surface is not a guarantee that every room will look reflection-free, but the comparison establishes a practical advantage for the R95H in the tested setup. TechRadar’s LG OLED versus Samsung RGB comparison describes the side-by-side viewing.
Strong black performance for a backlit set
TechRadar found the R95H’s black performance impressive for a backlit TV, but also saw backlight blooming when viewing from off-axis. That is the trade-off: the R95H can look convincing in dark scenes, yet its backlight is not equivalent to pixels that switch off individually. OLED’s self-emissive structure avoids this particular blooming limitation.
Why elite OLED still wins overall
In TechRadar’s direct comparison, the LG G6 was preferred overall for contrast, texture and color performance. The reviewer described the G6’s color as richer and deeper, while the R95H looked more neutral and arguably more accurate. That is a subjective judgment from one tested pairing, not a verdict on every OLED model, every R95H, or every viewer. It does, however, explain why greater full-screen brightness and better reflection handling do not automatically make the Samsung the better picture.

TechRadar measured 612 nits full-screen HDR brightness for the R95H and 451 nits for the G6 in HDR Filmmaker Mode. Those measurements support the Samsung’s advantage in sustained full-screen output in that test, not a general claim that it is brighter in every HDR scene: the small-window readings show why it is important to distinguish a small highlight from a mostly bright image. What Hi-Fi? likewise positions the R95H as a backlit flagship alternative to Samsung’s S99H OLED and notes the challenge of making a case for the backlit set against high-performing OLED at similar prices. What Hi-Fi?’s R95H review provides that market-positioning perspective.
R95H or elite OLED: which fits your room and setup?
| What matters | Samsung R95H | LG G6 OLED in TechRadar’s comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Reflections and room light | Its matte Glare Free screen better reduced mirror-like reflections in TechRadar’s side-by-side test. | More mirror-like reflections were visible in that tested comparison. |
| HDR brightness | TechRadar measured 1,977 nits on a 10% HDR Filmmaker Mode window and 612 nits full-screen. | TechRadar measured 451 nits full-screen HDR Filmmaker Mode; a comparable 10% window result is not stated in the cited comparison. |
| Dark scenes | Impressive black performance for a backlit TV, but off-axis backlight blooming was visible to the reviewer. | Self-emissive pixels avoid backlight blooming and provide the contrast advantage noted in the comparison. |
| Color character | Described by the reviewer as more neutral and arguably more accurate. | Described as richer and deeper; the reviewer preferred the G6 overall for contrast, texture and color. |
| Gaming and formats | RTINGS lists four HDMI 2.1 ports, up to 4K at 165Hz or 1080p at 240Hz, and support for all three VRR types. HDR10+ and Dolby audio-format support are listed; Dolby Vision and DTS are not supported. | Not stated in the cited comparison. |
The practical choice follows from those differences. Consider the R95H if you watch in a bright room, often see reflections on your current screen, or value sustained brightness across bright sports, animation, or other largely bright scenes. Favor an elite OLED if dark-room contrast, freedom from backlight blooming, or the richer color presentation seen in TechRadar’s G6 comparison matters more to you.
Check the format row against the devices and content you actually use. The R95H’s lack of Dolby Vision matters if your preferred streaming or disc library relies on that format; the lack of DTS matters if your setup depends on DTS audio. HDR10+ and Dolby audio-format support do not substitute for those absent formats.

Gaming and format support
RTINGS lists four HDMI 2.1 ports and support for 4K at up to 165Hz or 1080p at up to 240Hz, plus all three VRR types. Those top refresh-rate figures apply to the stated resolution modes; they are not a promise that every game or input configuration will run at either maximum. RTINGS also lists HDR10+ and Dolby audio-format support, while noting that Dolby Vision and DTS are unsupported. See RTINGS’ Samsung R95H review for its feature and format findings.

The US Samsung product listing is for an 85-inch 2026 R95H and gives the family code MRN85R95H. RTINGS identifies a 65-inch test sample and lists 75- and 85-inch sizes. Samsung’s model names and listings can vary by country, so confirm the exact size and regional model code with the seller. The Samsung US 85-inch R95H listing showed $6,499.99 when captured; that is a dated listing price, not a current quote.
Launch-price reports also differ by source and region. TechRadar reported a 65-inch launch price of $3,199 in the US, £3,099 in the UK and AU$5,299 in Australia, and reported lower later observed US and UK prices. What Hi-Fi? gave a launch-price account of $3,200, £3,299 and AU$5,299. These are each outlet’s reported snapshots, not a single canonical price or a guarantee of current availability. Check a current local listing before comparing the R95H with an OLED at a similar price.
Verdict
The R95H is a persuasive demonstration of what RGB backlighting can add to a premium TV: notably strong full-screen brightness in TechRadar’s measurements and unusually effective reflection control in its comparison with the LG G6. It remains a backlit television, however, and the G6 won that review’s overall picture-quality comparison on contrast, texture and color. The R95H makes the most sense when its bright-room strengths answer a real need; it is not evidence that next-generation Mini LED has displaced elite OLED.
