The Samsung R85H is a 2026 Micro RGB LCD TV with a strong paper spec sheet—including 4K resolution, 144 Hz refresh with VRR, and four HDMI ports rated for up to 4K 144 Hz—but its most distinctive feature is also its main concern in independent testing. RTINGS found visible color cross-talk from the RGB Mini LED backlight on the 65-inch model it purchased and tested. That can make the R85H a difficult buy at a price near competing OLED and Mini LED TVs, despite its high-refresh gaming features and potential for vivid color.
What the R85H review says
RTINGS published its review on August 20, 2026, and updated it on October 2, 2026, using Test Bench 2.3. It purchased and tested the 65-inch MRN65R85HAFXZA; its findings are considered applicable by RTINGS to the 55-, 75-, 85-, and 100-inch sizes. This is the available independent test evidence for the four models in this review, not separate testing of every screen size.

RTINGS’ central criticism is color cross-talk associated with the RGB Mini LED backlight. The effect can create distracting color artifacts. The system may improve color saturation with suitable content, but RTINGS says the R85H’s small zone count makes cross-talk more noticeable than with some competing approaches. That trade-off matters more than Samsung’s color marketing claims when deciding whether the picture will suit your viewing.

But it says the TV does not clean up low-quality streaming compression well, and its smoothing can reduce fine detail. Those results describe RTINGS’ evaluation; they are not Samsung specifications.

The four requested US model codes correspond to these screen sizes. Samsung’s product pages identify the 65- and 85-inch model numbers; RTINGS lists the full US size family.

Samsung R85H features and specifications
Samsung describes the R85H as a 4K Micro RGB TV powered by its Micro RGB AI Engine. The 85-inch US model is specified at 3840 × 2160 resolution, with a 144 Hz refresh rate and VRR support. Samsung also lists DLG 240 Hz, Micro RGB HDR+, Motion Xcelerator 144 Hz, and FreeSync Premium Pro. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent measurements of picture quality or gaming performance.

Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report positions the R85H as an entry model for expanding its Micro RGB line. It describes an “outstanding color experience through Real Micro R/G/B technology” and lists Micro RGB Color Booster Pro, VRR 144Hz, Object Tracking Sound Lite, AI-based object separation technology, and cost efficiency through the QN80 platform. Those are Samsung’s corporate descriptions, not independent test conclusions.

Is the Samsung R85H worth buying?
That depends chiefly on how much you value its high-refresh feature set relative to the risk of visible color artifacts, and on the price for the size you want. The 144 Hz VRR specification and four high-bandwidth HDMI inputs are attractive on paper for gaming, while RTINGS’ cross-talk finding is a substantive picture-quality caveat. Do not treat the Micro RGB branding or color claims as proof that the tested picture will be free of artifacts.
RTINGS’ review concludes that the LG C6 OLED 2026 was available for about the same price and the TCL QM8K Mini LED for less, leaving it little reason to choose the R85H. This is RTINGS’ time-sensitive value judgment, not a promise of today’s prices or availability. Compare current prices for the same screen size before deciding: a price gap can change the value calculation, but it does not remove the tested cross-talk concern.

Samsung offer snapshots showed $1,599.99 for the 65-inch model after a displayed $500 discount from $2,099.99, and $2,799.99 for the 85-inch after a displayed $1,200 discount from $3,999.99. These were changing page observations, not guaranteed current prices or established regular prices. Check the retailer’s current listing for your chosen size before purchase.
How to compare the R85H with other TVs
When weighing the R85H against OLED or Mini LED alternatives, use the same content and viewing conditions where possible, and evaluate these differences rather than relying on technology labels:

- Color and artifacts: Assess whether stronger saturation is worth the possibility of RGB-backlight color cross-talk.
- Dark-scene performance: Compare black level, local dimming, and haloing around bright objects.
- Bright-room viewing: Check brightness and glare handling for your room, not just the feature names.
- Gaming: Compare supported refresh rates and VRR alongside the ports and devices you will use.
- Streaming and older sources: Look at how each TV handles compression, low-resolution material, gradients, and fine detail.
- Price: Compare the same screen size and check the actual offer immediately before buying.
R85H versus Samsung R95H
The R95H is Samsung’s higher-tier Micro RGB model, not another name for the R85H. Samsung lists a Pro AI Engine, HDR Pro, 165 Hz, and Glare Free for the R95H, compared with the R85H’s standard AI Engine, HDR+, and 144 Hz. RTINGS says its testing also found the R95H improves brightness, color volume, local dimming, black uniformity, haloing, and processing. Treat that as RTINGS’ comparative test judgment; the feature names alone do not establish the size of each improvement.
