Samsung QA77S90FAEXXY Review: What Australian Buyers Need to Know

The Samsung QA77S90FAEXXY is Samsung Australia’s 2025 77-inch S90F OLED: a 4K television with a listed native refresh rate of 100Hz, gaming motion support up to 144Hz, and four HDMI inputs. The key uncertainty for buyers is its panel type: available evidence does not conclusively establish whether this exact Australian model uses QD-OLED or WOLED. Reviews of other S90F sizes and regional variants offer useful context, but are not measurements of this SKU.

What the QA77S90FAEXXY offers

Samsung Australia identifies the QA77S90FAEXXY as a 77-inch S90F from its 2025 range, with 3,840 × 2,160 resolution and an NQ4 AI Gen3 processor. Its listed picture and HDR features include OLED HDR+, HDR10+ Adaptive and Gaming, and Filmmaker Mode. Samsung Australia’s product page is the primary source for these specifications.

Refresh rate: native 100Hz, gaming support up to 144Hz

Samsung lists a 100Hz native refresh rate and Motion Xcelerator support up to 144Hz for compatible gaming equipment. These are distinct figures: the 144Hz figure is a manufacturer-stated gaming capability, not the listed native refresh rate. Check that the source device, connection, and game support the mode you intend to use.

Connections and audio

The specifications list four HDMI inputs, each accepting up to 4K at 144Hz, plus eARC, two USB-A ports, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3. eARC provides a straightforward way to connect a compatible soundbar or other external audio system. The set also has built-in audio, so an external system is an optional upgrade rather than a requirement.

Does the Australian QA77S90FAEXXY use QD-OLED or WOLED?

That is not conclusively established for this exact model by the available authoritative information. Samsung’s specifications identify the television as OLED but do not settle the panel subtype. RTINGS notes that S90F panel technology varies by size and region; its tested North American 65-inch QD-OLED results should not be transferred to an Australian 77-inch SKU. Tom’s Guide also discusses QD-OLED and WOLED differences across the S90F range, which reinforces why a family name alone is not enough to identify this unit’s panel.

For context, RTINGS’ S90F review describes its tested 65-inch QD-OLED configuration and explicitly distinguishes it from WOLED variants. Tom’s Guide’s 65-inch S90F review likewise treats panel type as variant-dependent. Neither source proves the panel technology in QA77S90FAEXXY. If panel subtype is central to your purchase, seek confirmation tied to the exact model code or the individual unit’s label before buying.

What independent S90F reviews suggest—and what they do not

RTINGS reports strong dark-room black levels, vibrant color, HDR highlights, and gaming response on its North American 65-inch QD-OLED sample. It also reports visible stutter associated with the fast pixel response, raised black levels in very bright ambient lighting, and no Dolby Vision or DTS support. These are findings for the reviewed configuration, not laboratory results for the Australian 77-inch QA77S90FAEXXY. RTINGS’ measurements explicitly do not apply to WOLED variants.

  • BRING SMOOTH MOTION TO GAMES AND SPORTS: Enjoy speedy performance with ultra-smooth visuals, up to 4K 120Hz.

Those findings still help frame the questions to ask: how the exact unit behaves in your room, which HDR formats your sources use, and whether your content or audio setup depends on Dolby Vision or DTS. Samsung lists HDR10+ support for this model; the cited RTINGS review reports no Dolby Vision support on its tested S90F. Buyers reliant on Dolby Vision or DTS should verify format compatibility against their own devices and media rather than assume the family-level review describes every regional configuration.

Is it a good fit for films, sport, and gaming?

Films and streaming

The 4K OLED specification and Samsung’s Filmmaker Mode make the set relevant to film and streaming buyers, while HDR10+ Adaptive and Gaming are among the listed formats and modes. The unresolved panel subtype and lack of exact-SKU independent measurements mean that claims about this model’s measured brightness, color performance, or reflection handling would go beyond the evidence. If Dolby Vision is important to your library or streaming devices, confirm support for the exact model before purchase.

Sport and bright rooms

The 100Hz native refresh specification is relevant to fast-moving content, but it does not by itself establish motion quality in sport. RTINGS’ bright-room and motion observations concern its tested 65-inch QD-OLED variant, not this Australian 77-inch television. Room lighting, reflections, seating, and the specific panel configuration are worth considering in person where possible.

Console and PC gaming

Four HDMI inputs with a manufacturer-listed ceiling of 4K at 144Hz provide substantial connection capacity for compatible equipment. Samsung also advertises Motion Xcelerator up to 144Hz, but available information does not establish exact-SKU independent results for gaming performance or provide a complete feature-by-feature account of variable refresh rate support. Confirm the modes supported by your console or PC and the settings required to enable them.

Software commitment and Australian availability

Samsung says 2025 products receive Tizen OS upgrades for seven years starting from the 2025 release year. The company expressly excludes hardware-related performance, features, and durability from that commitment. It is a software-upgrade statement, not a seven-year guarantee of hardware life or performance. Samsung’s Australian product information states the terms.

Current Australian stock and a representative current price are not established here. CHOICE lists the exact model, shows publicly visible specifications, marks the model discontinued, and reserves its expert test results for members. Its listing price should not be treated as a current market price. See CHOICE’s QA77S90FAEXXY listing for its publicly visible record.

What to check before you buy

  • Confirm the complete regional code is QA77S90FAEXXY; do not treat a similarly named overseas S90F as identical.
  • If QD-OLED versus WOLED matters to you, obtain confirmation for this exact code or the individual unit.
  • Match HDR and audio format support to your streaming devices, consoles, and media, particularly if you rely on Dolby Vision or DTS.
  • Check the input modes your gaming equipment needs and confirm the required settings for 4K high-refresh output.
  • Verify current local stock, price, warranty, and retailer return terms directly before ordering.
