Reviewers of the S85F range consistently praise its contrast, black levels and motion handling. They also flag two trade-offs that matter for this size: brightness in bright, full-screen scenes is lower than on more expensive OLEDs, and the built-in speakers are only average. It suits a dark or dimmed living room where picture quality comes first and a soundbar is acceptable. It is a weaker fit for a sunny room or a buyer who wants strong built-in audio.
What the QA77S85FAEXXY is
The QA77S85FAEXXY is the Australian model code for the 77-inch version of Samsung’s S85F OLED 4K Vision AI television. The S85F line is sold in several sizes, and Samsung’s 2025 Australian specification sheet covers the 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inch models together. When comparing listings, match the full model code, including the size and regional suffix, rather than the series name alone.

Samsung states that picture and upscaling results depend on the source content and viewing conditions. Some smart features, including the assistant and streaming functions, can depend on region, account, network or software version.
Which panel does the 77-inch model use?
This is the first question to settle, because reviewers have tested different S85F sizes and regions with different OLED panel types. Samsung’s Australian specification sheet does not name the panel subtype, so the table below combines what reviewers reported. The 77-inch row is based on a review that treats that size as WOLED; it is not a panel declaration from Samsung.

Ask the seller to confirm the panel type in writing before you buy. The difference matters because the two OLED types behave differently in brightness and viewing angle, which are the trade-offs covered in the next section.
Picture quality
Choose.tv’s Australian review, published 3 November 2025 after testing began on 28 October 2025, describes excellent black levels and contrast on its WOLED unit. It also reports reduced brightness in full-screen bright scenes and weaker viewing angles than the 55-inch QD-OLED model it compares against. Its overall score for the tested WOLED version is 7.9.

TechRadar’s review, published 14 September 2025, tested a 65-inch UK W-OLED unit rather than the 77-inch model. It describes vibrant colour, strong contrast and refined shadow detail, and says motion runs smoothly once the settings are adjusted. It also places the set’s brightness below more expensive OLED televisions.

Put together, the reviewer picture is clear: deep blacks and strong contrast, with less peak and full-screen brightness than the top OLEDs. Viewing from the side is also more limited than on the QD-OLED variant. Both reviews were published in 2025, so later firmware may have changed some behaviour.

Gaming
Samsung lists VRR, FreeSync Premium, ALLM, HGiG, Game Motion Plus and Gaming Hub for specified markets, including Australia. Gaming Hub availability depends on region and account, so check it on the set before relying on it.
TechRadar’s 65-inch review describes capable gaming and 4K 120Hz support, and it measured 9.4ms input lag on its test sample. That figure applies to that sample, not to the 77-inch Australian model. Choose.tv describes 120Hz motion as smooth. If you plan to connect a current console or PC, confirm that your device’s HDMI output and cable support the refresh rates you intend to use.

Sound
The 20W, 2-channel speaker system is the weakest part of the package by reviewer consensus. TechRadar calls the sound adequate for some everyday viewing but average overall, and it recommends a soundbar for anyone who wants better audio. The specification also lists Dolby Atmos support and Q-Symphony. Check Samsung’s documentation for which audio devices Q-Symphony works with before assuming it will be available with a particular soundbar.
Installation and support documents
Samsung Support Australia publishes model-specific manuals and installation guides. The 77–83-inch installation guide was last modified on 20 May 2025, and the simple guide on 30 March 2025. Use these official documents rather than third-party wall-mount instructions. The research behind this article did not establish mount dimensions or bracket compatibility for this model, so confirm the wall and bracket requirements in the official guide before you buy a mount.
Before you buy
- Check live availability. Samsung Australia’s product page for this model has been listed as “Not for sale”, so confirm stock with a retailer and check the price against current listings, not older launch pricing.
- Confirm the panel type in writing, since Samsung’s specification sheet does not state it.
- Check the room. Bright, sunlit rooms expose the lower full-screen brightness, and wide seating arrangements expose the narrower viewing angles.
- Plan for audio. If you watch a lot of films or live sport, budget for a soundbar.
- Check your gaming setup against the refresh rate and VRR support you need.
- Confirm the warranty terms with the seller at the time of purchase.
Who should buy it
This model fits a viewer who watches mostly in a dark or dimmed room, values contrast and black levels, and is willing to add a soundbar. It is a weaker choice for a bright open-plan living space, for viewers who sit far to the side, or for anyone who expects the built-in speakers to be good enough on their own.
