The Samsung QA65Q80BAW is the Australian regional model code for Samsung’s 65-inch Q80B QLED 4K Smart TV, a 2022 television with Samsung-advertised 4K 120fps support and four HDMI ports. TechRadar’s review characterizes the Q80B as a capable mid-range TV for everyday viewing and console gaming, but flags backlight blooming and the absence of Dolby Vision. Because it is an older model, whether it makes sense to buy now depends on the exact regional variant, condition, warranty and price of the listing in front of you.

What is the Samsung QA65Q80BAW?

QA65Q80BAW is the model identifier for the 65-inch Samsung Q80B QLED 4K Smart TV family in Australia. Samsung’s Australian product listing uses the fuller suffix QA65Q80BAWXXY, while its support page identifies the model as QA65Q80BAW. Check the suffix and region on a seller’s listing: specifications such as broadcast tuners and services can vary between markets.

Samsung released the Q80B generation in 2022. Its Australian product page describes a Direct Full Array backlight, Quantum HDR 12x, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10+ Gaming, Quantum Dot colour, and a 4K Quantum Processor. These are manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions, not independent measurements of brightness, contrast or colour accuracy.

Samsung Australia’s Q80B product page identifies the local product, while the Australian support page for QA65Q80BAWXXY provides regional documents. Samsung lists a user manual dated 18 August 2022, a quick guide dated 26 November 2022, and a later e-Manual there.

How good is the Q80B for picture quality?

Samsung positions the Q80B as a QLED set with a full-array backlight and HDR support. TechRadar’s review describes it as a mid-range model whose conventional full-array backlight does not deliver the black levels or HDR precision of higher-priced Neo QLED televisions. The review also identifies blooming—visible brightening around bright objects against dark backgrounds—as a drawback. These are the reviewer’s qualitative assessments; the available evidence does not establish a measured brightness or contrast result for this article.

HDR format support is an important buying consideration. Samsung lists HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10+ Gaming, but TechRadar notes that the Q80B lacks Dolby Vision. If you regularly watch Dolby Vision films or shows, confirm the formats supported by your sources and streaming services, and consider whether that omission matters to you.

Does the Samsung Q80B support 4K 120Hz gaming?

Samsung advertises 4K 120fps support over HDMI 2.1, along with FreeSync Premium Pro. Its specifications also list Auto Game Mode (ALLM), Game Motion Plus and Ultrawide Game View. These features make the Q80B a plausible option for compatible console or PC gaming, but 120fps depends on a source device and game that can output it; the feature name alone does not guarantee that every game will run at that frame rate. Confirm the capabilities of the exact regional set and your connected device.

Samsung’s Australian specification sheet lists four HDMI ports. HDMI 3 is the eARC connection, so plan to use that port if routing sound to an eARC-compatible receiver or soundbar. Samsung also promotes Q-Symphony with compatible Samsung soundbars; check the specific soundbar’s compatibility rather than assuming every model supports it.

What are the audio, smart-TV and regional features?

Samsung specifies a 60W RMS, 2.2.2-channel built-in speaker system, Tizen smart-TV software, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. The Australian product page also lists Q-Symphony. These specifications describe the product family documentation, not an independent assessment of sound quality or long-term software support.

For Australian buyers, Samsung’s Q80B specification sheet identifies DVB-T/T2-ready digital broadcasting and HbbTV 2.0.1. Broadcast standards are regional, so do not assume another country’s QA65Q80BAW variant has the same tuner configuration or services.

Is the Samsung QA65Q80BAW worth buying now?

It can be worth considering if you find a well-priced, correctly matched regional unit and want a 65-inch 4K TV with Samsung-advertised 4K 120fps gaming features. TechRadar’s review supports the case for everyday viewing and console gaming, while its reported blooming and lack of Dolby Vision are meaningful compromises for dark-room movie watching or buyers who prioritize Dolby Vision content.

What to check before you buy a listing

  1. Match the model. Check the rear label or seller’s documentation for QA65Q80BAW and the regional suffix. In Australia, Samsung’s product listing uses QA65Q80BAWXXY.
  2. Confirm condition and coverage. Ask whether the TV is new, refurbished or used, and get the warranty terms and any return period in writing.
  3. Check the inputs you need. Confirm that the unit has the four HDMI ports documented for the Q80B family, and that you can reserve HDMI 3 for eARC if required.
  4. Match gaming expectations. Verify your console or PC supports the resolution and frame rate you expect, and use a suitable HDMI connection.
  5. Read the local documentation. Use Samsung’s regional support page for the correct manual, tuner information and setup details.

Verdict

The Samsung QA65Q80BAW is a 65-inch 2022 Q80B QLED with a useful combination of gaming features, including Samsung-advertised 4K 120fps support, FreeSync Premium Pro and four HDMI ports. TechRadar’s review presents it as a capable mid-range everyday and gaming TV, not a top-tier choice for black levels or HDR precision; its blooming and lack of Dolby Vision are the clearest reasons to look elsewhere. A purchase today should hinge on a strong current offer, a verified regional model and acceptable condition and warranty.
