Its specification sheet lists four HDMI ports, FreeSync Premium Pro and refresh rates up to 144Hz, making it an appealing feature set for a compact gaming and entertainment TV. The key qualification: Samsung’s QN90C features vary by size, and the 50-inch model lacks some picture and audio features advertised for larger versions. CHOICE marks this exact model discontinued, and its public listing does not show a test verdict, so there is no publicly established independent measured verdict for this Australian SKU in the cited material.
What is the Samsung QA50QN90CAWXXY?
Samsung Australia identifies QA50QN90CAWXXY as the 50-inch QN90C Neo QLED 4K Smart TV, part of its 2023 range. The manufacturer’s specification sheet lists a 3,840 × 2,160 resolution, Neural Quantum Processor 4K, Quantum Matrix Technology, Quantum Dot colour, Neo Quantum HDR and an anti-reflection feature. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of picture quality or reflections. Samsung Australia’s product specifications identify the exact Australian model.

What features does the 50-inch version actually have?
Do not assume the 50-inch set has every feature associated with QN90C reviews or advertising. Samsung’s specifications distinguish it from models that are 55 inches and larger.

|---|---|---|
| HDR format listed by Samsung | Neo Quantum HDR | Neo Quantum HDR+ |
| Speaker configuration and Atmos wording | OTS Lite; no upward-firing speakers. Dolby Atmos support is listed, but the source must contain Dolby Atmos audio. | Samsung lists upward-firing speakers and its “True Dolby Atmos” implementation. |
| Wide Viewing Angle | Not listed for this size | Samsung lists it for these sizes |
| Refresh-rate specification | Up to 144Hz | 4K 120Hz high-frame-rate HDMI |
| HDMI inputs | Four | Four |
These differences come from Samsung’s Australian specifications for the QN90C range. Samsung’s model specifications and its size-specific feature details distinguish the 43- and 50-inch versions from the 55-inch-and-larger sets. Dolby Atmos support does not mean every programme or connected device will supply Atmos audio.
How does it look for gaming?
On paper, the 50-inch model offers a compelling gaming feature list: Samsung specifies up to 144Hz, four HDMI inputs and FreeSync Premium Pro. This is a manufacturer specification, not evidence of measured input lag, image quality in a particular game, or the behaviour of every console and PC configuration. Check the requirements of the device and game you intend to use; a feature advertised by the TV does not guarantee that a connected source will output at the same resolution and refresh rate.

Pay attention to the size-specific wording. Samsung lists up to 144Hz for the 43- and 50-inch models, while its 55-inch-and-larger models are specified for 4K 120Hz high-frame-rate HDMI. The 50-inch figure should not be read as a claim that every input or source supports every resolution-refresh combination.
What do independent reviews establish?
CHOICE has a public listing for the exact QA50QN90CAWXXY, describing it as a 4K LCD with Tizen, four HDMI inputs, two USB inputs and Bluetooth 5.2. It marks the model discontinued, but the publicly visible page does not disclose the expert rating, detailed picture or audio scores, pros and cons, or recommendation. It therefore cannot support a claim that CHOICE gave this TV a particular verdict. CHOICE’s exact-model listing is useful for identifying the listing status, not for inferring a hidden score.

RTINGS’ QN90C family review, updated April 19, 2024, warns that specifications and panels vary by size. Its tested US 50-inch unit is listed with a VA panel and up to 144Hz; tested 55-inch-and-larger units use ADS panels and 120Hz. That is evidence about the tested US models, not confirmation that every Australian QA50QN90CAWXXY has the same panel construction. RTINGS’ QN90C review should be treated as family-level, region-specific context rather than a direct test of this Australian SKU.
No firsthand testing or exact-SKU independent measured verdict is established by the cited material. As a result, brightness, blooming, motion handling, viewing-angle performance and audio quality for this particular Australian set should not be presented as independently verified results.

Is the Samsung 50-inch QN90C worth buying?
It can make sense if you specifically want a 50-inch TV with a broad gaming specification and can verify that a remaining unit is available from a seller with acceptable warranty and return terms. The 2023 launch price is not a useful stand-in for today’s value: Samsung Newsroom Australia listed the 50-inch model at A$2,899 recommended retail price at launch, while CHOICE’s listing also shows A$2,899 and marks it discontinued. Those are historical listing figures, not a current quote or evidence of stock. Samsung Newsroom Australia’s 2023 launch announcement provides that dated RRP context.
