What the SL-M3870FW driver update includes

Choose the right download for your computer
Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 on 64-bit Intel or AMD PCs
Use the standard Print Driver for normal printing. Add the separate Scan Driver if you need to scan from Windows applications. Samsung also lists Universal Print Driver 3 as an alternative print package; it is useful when you manage several supported Samsung printers or the model-specific installer is not suitable.
To confirm the architecture in Windows 11, open Settings > System > About and read System type. A conventional Intel or AMD 64-bit installation should use the Windows 64-bit package. Do not install a 32-bit or ARM package simply because its name contains “Windows.”
Windows 11 on ARM
ARM-based Windows 11 computers need the files Samsung labels for Windows-on-ARM (WoA). The catalog lists an add-driver package and a separate installation guide, both version V1.1 dated 2025-01-22. Follow that guide rather than forcing the standard x64 installer. The WoA package is specifically for adding the printer driver to the ARM edition; it is not the same download as the ordinary Windows Print Driver.

macOS
Match the package to the installed macOS major version. Samsung lists V3.93.03 for macOS 12.x, V3.93.01 for macOS 11.x and V3.91.00 for macOS 10.15. Check your version under Apple menu > About This Mac before downloading. A package for a different major release may not provide the expected printer or scanner functions.
Linux and UNIX
The catalog has Linux/UNIX entries, but the package names and supported distributions can vary. Select the file shown for your distribution and follow Samsung’s included instructions. If the catalog does not show a package for your distribution, do not substitute a Windows or macOS installer.
Manual driver installation, step by step
1. Record the current setup
- Write down whether the printer is connected by USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Print a configuration or network report from the printer’s control panel if you need its current network address.
- On Windows, note existing entries under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. Multiple entries for the same printer can cause jobs to go to an old port.
- Close print and scan applications before running an installer. Keep the printer powered on and connected during device detection.
2. Download from Samsung’s SL-M3870FW support catalog
- Open Samsung’s official support page for SL-M3870FW.
- Select the host operating system and architecture.
- Choose Print Driver for printing, and download Scan Driver separately when scanning is required.
- On Windows 11 ARM, download both the WoA add-driver package and its installation guide.
- For macOS, choose the package matching the installed major version.
- Save the installer where you can find it, and read any release notes or installation guide before opening it.
3. Install the print driver
Run the downloaded installer with an account permitted to install software. Accept the license terms, select the connection method requested by the wizard, and allow it to search for the printer. For a network installation, the computer and printer must be on the same reachable network; for USB, connect the cable when the installer asks. If the wizard offers a choice between a detected device and a manually entered address, select the entry that matches the printer’s configuration report.

When installation finishes, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the SL-M3870FW entry and choose Print a test page. A successful test confirms basic print communication, not scanning or fax operation.
4. Add the scan driver when needed
Install Samsung’s separate Scan Driver after the print package. Restart the computer or the print/scan system if the installer requests it. Open the scanning application you normally use and select the SL-M3870FW as the source. Test both a document-feed scan and a flatbed scan if your workflow uses both. The printer can print even when the scan component is missing, so test scanning separately.
5. Remove stale entries only when necessary
If Windows shows several copies of the printer, remove the entry that points to an obsolete port after confirming which one is active. In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select an old entry, choose Remove, then add the printer again with the newly installed driver. Avoid deleting a working entry before you have recorded its connection type and address.

Firmware is a separate update
Samsung lists firmware V4.00.02.18 for all operating systems, dated 2019-08-14. Firmware runs inside the printer; installing a print or scan driver does not update it. Conversely, a firmware update will not install a Windows scan driver.
Use the firmware file only when Samsung’s support page shows it for your exact SL-M3870FW model and region. Read the package instructions, keep the printer connected to stable power, and do not switch it off or disconnect the cable or network connection while the update is in progress. The catalog date is evidence of when that file was listed, not proof that it is the newest firmware available everywhere. If the support page offers a regional variant, use that variant rather than a file from another market.

Fixes for common installation problems
The installer cannot find the printer
- Confirm the printer is powered on and the displayed model is SL-M3870FW.
- For USB, reconnect the cable directly to the computer and try another USB port.
- For Ethernet or Wi-Fi, verify that the computer and printer are on the same network and compare the printer’s address with the address selected by the installer.
- Temporarily close other printer installers or management utilities, then run the Samsung package again.
Printing works but scanning does not
- Install the separate Windows Scan Driver or the correct macOS Printing & Scan Driver.
- Restart the computer if requested and reselect the SL-M3870FW inside the scanning application.
- Check that the application is not trying to use an old printer entry left by a previous installation.
The package is rejected on Windows 11 ARM
Do not repeatedly retry the standard x64 installer. Confirm the system type under Settings > System > About, download Samsung’s WoA add-driver package and installation guide, and follow the guide’s add-driver procedure.

Jobs remain in the queue
Open the printer’s queue from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, cancel stuck jobs and submit a new test page. If the queue repeatedly stalls, remove duplicate printer entries and reinstall the package while the printer is connected through the same interface used during setup.
A firmware update fails
Leave the printer powered on unless Samsung’s instructions explicitly say otherwise. Record the exact message, reconnect using the interface specified by the firmware instructions and contact Samsung support if the printer does not return to its normal ready state. Do not try a firmware file intended for a different model or region.
Which toner fits the SL-M3870FW?
Toner is model-specific. Samsung’s compatibility listings associate the following cartridges with the M3870 family:
