Samsung Gallery stopped syncing directly with OneDrive on September 30, 2026. To back up new photos and videos automatically, use Camera backup in the OneDrive app instead. Files already uploaded to OneDrive remain there; they simply no longer appear in Samsung Gallery through the former link. Microsoft’s transition notice explains the change.
How to back up new Samsung photos to OneDrive
Set up Camera backup in the OneDrive app on your Samsung phone or tablet. This is the current OneDrive workflow; it is separate from the discontinued Samsung Gallery sync.

- Open the OneDrive app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account where you want the backup stored. It may be different from the Samsung account on the device.
- Tap your account profile in the upper-left area, then select Camera backup.
- Confirm the Microsoft account shown and turn on Camera backup.
- When prompted, grant OneDrive access to photos and videos. Microsoft recommends allowing access to all photos and videos so background backup can work correctly.
- Make sure the account has available storage quota and the device has an internet connection.
After setup, newly captured photos and videos upload automatically when the required access is granted. The exact labels or placement can vary with the OneDrive app version, Android version, and locale; if a label differs, look for Camera backup in the OneDrive account menu. See Microsoft’s current instructions.
What changed in Samsung Gallery and OneDrive
The former integration linked Samsung Gallery with a OneDrive Gallery folder. Microsoft says new users could no longer link the apps starting May 1, 2026, and the direct sync ended for everyone on September 30, 2026. Samsung Support Australia also announced the September 30 end date in its service notice.

|---|---|---|
| Samsung Gallery sync | Linked the OneDrive Gallery folder with Samsung Gallery and mirrored changes between them. | Discontinued September 30, 2026. Historical eligibility varied by carrier, device, market, and account type. |
| OneDrive Camera backup | Uploads new photos and videos from the device through the OneDrive app. | Current option for new uploads; requires the intended Microsoft account, photo/video access, available quota, and connectivity. |
Where your existing OneDrive photos are
Photos and videos already stored in OneDrive remain safe and unchanged, according to Microsoft. You can view or download them in the OneDrive app or at onedrive.com. After the integration ended, those files stopped appearing in Samsung Gallery through the old connection; that change does not mean the OneDrive copies were deleted.
If you want a cloud-stored image to appear inside Samsung Gallery, that is a separate task from backing up new photos. Microsoft’s transition guidance directs users to OneDrive to view and manage the existing cloud files; it does not describe the old Gallery link as a way to restore that display.

What to know about deletion and the old sync
The former Gallery integration was two-way: changes, including deletions, could be reflected in Samsung Gallery, the OneDrive Gallery folder, and linked devices. Microsoft’s legacy sync guidance warns that deleting an item from one side could remove it from the other. This describes the discontinued Gallery sync; it should not be assumed to describe every behavior of current Camera backup.
Before deleting a synced item, confirm that a copy exists in the place where you intend to keep it.

Why old setup instructions may not match your device
Samsung’s historical US instructions used Gallery > Menu > Settings > Sync with OneDrive or Cloud sync, followed by Microsoft account sign-in. That route is no longer the current way to back up new photos. In addition, the legacy integration was limited to certain carriers, device models, and markets, and supported personal OneDrive accounts rather than work or school accounts. The differences explain why older guides and menu labels may not match; they do not change the end date. See Samsung’s historical setup instructions and Microsoft’s legacy eligibility details.

Check these common blockers in order:
- Microsoft account: In OneDrive, verify that Camera backup is using the account where you expect the files to appear.
- Camera backup setting: Open the profile menu and confirm that Camera backup is on.
- Photo and video access: Review OneDrive’s device permissions and allow access to all photos and videos if that option is available.
- Available quota: A full OneDrive storage quota can prevent uploads. Check storage use in the account.
- Internet connection: Confirm the device has a working, sufficiently strong connection.
- Location of older files: Look in OneDrive or onedrive.com; the discontinued Gallery link no longer displays the cloud collection in Samsung Gallery.
Microsoft lists account selection, Camera backup, permissions, quota, and connectivity among the relevant checks in its transition guidance and Camera upload troubleshooting.
