On select Galaxy phones and tablets, Samsung’s Gallery app includes Photo Assist, a set of editing tools that can erase or move objects and generate or restyle image content. Open a picture, tap Edit, then tap the Photo Assist or Galaxy AI control. You can make a quick edit without installing a separate editor—but access and available tools depend on your device and software.
Where to find Photo Assist in Samsung Gallery
- Open Gallery and select the photo you want to edit.
- Tap Edit, shown as a pencil-shaped control.
- Tap Photo Assist or the Galaxy AI icon to view the tools available for that image.
- Make and review the edit. Compare the result with the original where that option appears.
- Save as copy to keep the original photo unchanged.

What the editing tools can do

These are generative edits: the phone may create image content for areas that were missing or changed. That is not the same as recovering details that were never captured. Samsung cautions that generated output’s accuracy and reliability are not guaranteed, so inspect the edited copy before sharing it or relying on it.

Photo Assist is not available on every Samsung phone. Samsung says its Gallery AI editing tools are available on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later; account and internet access are required. Availability can also vary by model, language, region, and software update. Samsung recommends updating the device if a feature is missing, but an update cannot make an incompatible model eligible. Check the Gallery editor on your own device and consult Samsung’s support page for current guidance rather than assuming all Galaxy models have the same controls.

Samsung’s One UI 9 information also describes spoken as well as written edit descriptions. That capability is not guaranteed on every handset, language, or region; see Samsung’s One UI 9 information.
Know the limits before saving or sharing
- Resolution: Samsung says Generative Edit produces a resized photo of up to 12MP.
- Watermark: AI-generated images carry a Galaxy AI watermark.
- Review: Generated areas can look plausible without reproducing the original scene faithfully. Keep the original and check the copy closely, especially for important images.
The resolution ceiling and watermark are Samsung specifications, not independent quality measurements. Samsung does not publish an edit-quality benchmark in the cited guidance.

When you might want a separate editor
For the quick object removal, repositioning, or generative changes described above, Photo Assist is built into Gallery on supported devices; no additional editor is required. Samsung also offers Galaxy Enhance-X through the Galaxy Store for other adjustments, including brightening, sharpening, restoring pictures, and increasing resolution. Samsung says it supports phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later. Enhance-X is a separate app and is optional, not a prerequisite for Photo Assist.
