The current Samsung phone with 100x zoom is the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung’s current mobile pages describe its Space Zoom as reaching 100x, and Samsung’s first-quarter 2026 report records the Galaxy S26 series release in March 2026. The same headline capability has appeared in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra. In every case, “100x” is a maximum Space Zoom or digital-zoom figure—not a 100x optical lens.
Which Samsung phones have 100x zoom?
Samsung has reserved its 100x Space Zoom headline for Ultra models. The documented lineup starts with the Galaxy S20 Ultra and continues through the S21 Ultra 5G, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra and current Galaxy S26 Ultra. A model name such as “Galaxy S24” or “Galaxy S22” is therefore incomplete: the base and Plus phones in those families do not share the Ultra model’s maximum.

What “100x” means on a Galaxy phone
Optical zoom, optical-quality zoom and digital zoom are different
Optical zoom uses the phone’s telephoto lens and sensor to magnify a subject before computational enlargement. Digital zoom crops and enlarges image data, so fine detail becomes harder to preserve as the magnification rises. Samsung also uses the intermediate label “optical-quality zoom” for certain magnification steps produced with a combination of optics, sensor resolution and processing.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra specification sheet separates these terms: it lists 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom, and up to 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s UK product notes describe the same system as 10x optical-quality zoom plus up to 100x digital zoom. The 100x number is therefore the top of a hybrid system, not the reach of a single lens.
Samsung’s own product note states: Zoom distances past 10x zoom may express some image deterioration.
That is Samsung’s qualification for its S25 Ultra product page, not an independent laboratory measurement. The warning is important when interpreting any 100x sample: the phone can select a 100x setting, but the resulting frame may show less detail, more processing artefacts or more visible noise than a lower magnification.
Why the viewfinder can still look impressive
At high magnification, Galaxy phones combine multiple camera frames and software processing. Samsung’s Space Zoom support material for the S23 Ultra describes AI Zoom and multiframe processing. These systems can stabilize the preview, align successive frames and sharpen or reconstruct areas of the image. They make a distant subject easier to frame than a simple crop would, but processing cannot guarantee detail that the scene, lens and sensor did not capture.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: the current 100x option
As of October 13, 2026, Samsung’s current mobile pages identify the Galaxy S26 Ultra as supporting 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s first-quarter 2026 interim report records the Galaxy S26 series release in March 2026. The cited current product page is a Samsung Gulf regional page, so its feature statement should be treated as the specification for that listing; storage, radio bands, colors, software and retail stock can differ by market.
Samsung’s S26 Ultra page also identifies a 200 MP wide camera. That figure describes the main camera’s resolution, not a 200 MP telephoto lens and not 200x zoom. The page’s 100x claim remains a Space Zoom maximum that combines the phone’s telephoto hardware and computational processing.

Who should choose it?
- Choose the S26 Ultra if you want the newest Samsung model whose official page advertises 100x Space Zoom.
- Check your local Samsung site or retailer for the exact regional variant before buying; the available model and listing were not established for every country.
- Do not choose it solely because of the 100x label if most of your photos are taken at normal distances. The practical benefit depends on light, subject movement, atmospheric haze and your tolerance for processed detail.
How the 100x feature evolved from S20 Ultra to S25 Ultra
Galaxy S20 Ultra (2020 generation)
Samsung Singapore’s camera-function guide makes the family split clear: the S20 Ultra offers 100x Space Zoom, while the S20 and S20+ top out at 30x Super Resolution Digital Zoom. This is the earliest model in the documented 100x line and the clearest warning against treating a generation name as shorthand for every model in it.
Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G
In its UK launch announcement, Samsung described the S21 Ultra 5G system as 10x optical zoom plus up to 100x Super Resolution Zoom. “Super Resolution” was Samsung’s launch terminology for the computational part of the range. It should not be read as 100x optical magnification.

Galaxy S22 Ultra
Samsung’s S22 camera support page lists up to 100x for the S22 Ultra and up to 30x for the S22 and S22+. The same-generation comparison is useful when shopping used or refurbished phones: only the Ultra carries the advertised 100x maximum in that family.
Galaxy S23 Ultra
Samsung’s Space Zoom support material covers the S23 Ultra and explains enhancements such as AI Zoom and multiframe processing. Those terms describe the software pipeline that helps produce high-magnification images; they do not change the distinction between optical and digital reach.
Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung’s US comparison page assigns up to 100x to the S24 Ultra and lists lower maximums for the other S24 phones. Search listings that omit “Ultra” can therefore be misleading: an S24-series phone is not automatically a 100x phone.

Galaxy S25 Ultra
The S25 Ultra has the clearest published breakdown in Samsung’s specifications. Samsung’s business sheet, current as of January 22, 2025, lists 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom and up to 100x Space Zoom. Samsung’s UK product notes add the explicit caveat that magnification beyond 10x may show image deterioration.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow to interpret the zoom numbers when comparing models
Start with the model suffix
Look for “Ultra” in the complete model name. The S20 and S20+, S21 family members other than the Ultra, S22 and S22+, and non-Ultra S24 models do not inherit the Ultra model’s 100x specification in the cited Samsung comparisons. A retailer title that says only “Galaxy S22” or “Galaxy S24” is not enough evidence.
Separate the maximum from the useful optical steps
Ask which focal lengths are optical or optical-quality before treating the maximum as a buying advantage. For the S25 Ultra, Samsung lists 3x and 5x optical positions and 2x and 10x optical-quality positions, with 100x as the Space Zoom ceiling. The earlier models use different hardware and terminology, so the S25 breakdown cannot be copied to the S20, S21, S22, S23 or S24.
Check the source date and region
Samsung’s S26 claim comes from a current Gulf mobile page, while the S25 specification sheet is dated January 22, 2025 and the S21 information comes from its 2021 launch announcement. Regional pages can differ in names, bundles and availability even when the camera specification is the same. Record the exact model, region and source date when comparing a new phone with an older one.
Distinguish specification from testing
A specification tells you that a camera mode exists. It does not establish how often 100x produces a readable sign, a sharp animal or a usable night scene. Samsung’s published material does not provide an independent, comparable test of image quality across these generations, so no model should be declared the best 100x camera on that basis alone.

Using 100x zoom without wasting the shot
The following workflow applies to any of the listed Ultra phones and avoids treating the maximum as the default setting.
- Open the Camera app and select the rear-camera photo mode.
- Frame the subject at a lower magnification first. Use the optical or optical-quality step that keeps the subject recognizable and leaves room to reframe.
- Increase zoom gradually rather than jumping immediately to 100x. Stop when the subject fills the frame without obvious blur or processing artefacts.
- Brace the phone against a solid surface or use both hands. At 100x, tiny hand movements shift the framing dramatically.
- Tap the subject to set focus and exposure, then wait for the preview to settle before pressing the shutter.
- Take several frames when the subject is stationary. Computational multi-frame processing and small movements can produce different results from one press to the next.
- Review the file at full size before discarding lower-magnification alternatives. A wider frame can retain more detail for cropping later.
These steps are practical handling advice, not a claim that every Galaxy generation uses identical camera controls. Menu labels and stabilization behavior can vary with One UI version and regional software.
When 100x is useful—and when a lower setting is better
Situations that suit extreme zoom
- Reading a distant, high-contrast sign when you cannot move closer.
- Framing a static architectural detail from a safe or restricted viewpoint.
- Watching a distant subject where the goal is identification or composition rather than fine-texture reproduction.
- Creating a record of a faraway object in bright, steady conditions.
Situations where 100x is a poor choice
- Moving people, animals or vehicles, because hand shake and subject motion compound at high magnification.
- Low light, haze or backlighting, which reduce the detail available for processing.
- Fine textures such as hair, foliage or small text, where sharpening can look artificial.
- Scenes where you can safely move closer; a shorter optical step usually gives the camera more real detail to work with.
Samsung’s warning about deterioration beyond 10x applies directly to this decision. Treat 100x as an emergency reach or framing option, not as a promise of optical-looking detail at every distance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Buying a used or older Samsung 100x phone
- Verify the exact model in Settings or on the device label. “Ultra” must appear in the model name; a base or Plus phone from the same year is a different camera system.
- Confirm the camera app opens all rear lenses and that the preview changes when moving through the telephoto steps.
- Inspect the telephoto lens glass for scratches, cracks or condensation. Damage to that lens can matter more for distant subjects than a cosmetic mark elsewhere.
- Test autofocus and stabilization on a distant, well-lit subject. Take files at a lower optical step and at the advertised maximum, then inspect both at full size.
- Check software-support status, battery condition and regional compatibility separately from the camera specification. The presence of 100x in a product description does not establish current updates or local network support.
Common misconceptions about Samsung 100x zoom
“100x” means a 100x telephoto lens
No. Samsung’s S25 documentation explicitly separates optical, optical-quality and digital zoom, with 100x as the Space Zoom maximum. The S21 launch description similarly combines 10x optical zoom with up to 100x Super Resolution Zoom.

- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
A higher number guarantees a better photo
No manufacturer specification establishes that. Samsung itself warns that zoom beyond 10x may show deterioration on the S25 Ultra page, and Samsung’s published material contains no independent cross-generation image-quality test.
The S26 Ultra’s 200 MP figure means 200x zoom
No. Samsung lists 200 MP for the wide camera and 100x for Space Zoom. Resolution and magnification are separate specifications.
Bottom line: which Samsung 100x phone should you consider?
If you want the current model with an official 100x claim, start with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, while checking your regional listing. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the best-documented example of how Samsung’s terminology works: 3x and 5x optical zoom, 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom, and a 100x Space Zoom ceiling that includes digital processing. The S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, S22 Ultra, S21 Ultra 5G and S20 Ultra also carry documented 100x claims, but their hardware, software and market availability are generation-specific.
Choose among them by prioritizing the optical steps, camera condition, software support and price of the exact unit you can buy. Use 100x for additional reach in suitable light, and judge the saved image—not the number in the viewfinder—when detail matters.
