On your Chromebook, open Settings > Connected devices, select Set up beside Android phone, and follow the prompts. Use the same Google Account on your Samsung phone and Chromebook. Once connected, choose the features you want; Phone Hub has its own setup and requirements, and not every feature is available on every Samsung model.
How do I connect my Samsung phone to my Chromebook?
- Check the account: Sign in to the same Google Account on both devices.
- Open Chromebook settings: Select the time area at the bottom right, then open Settings > Connected devices.
- Start pairing: Beside Android phone, select Set up. Confirm the account if prompted, enter your Chromebook password, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Choose features: When setup finishes, enable the options you want under Connected devices and your connected phone.
These are Google’s general connection steps. Google’s connection guide describes ChromeOS 71 or later and Android 6 or later for that workflow; those baselines do not guarantee every feature on every device. See Google’s Android phone connection instructions for current details.

Samsung describes Galaxy phone and Chromebook syncing as part of Google’s ecosystem: sign in to the same Google Account and connect the phone through Chromebook settings. This is not a Samsung-only pairing system. App compatibility varies, and apps from a phone are not automatically copied to the Chromebook. The Play Store is available only on some Chromebooks, and compatible apps must be downloaded separately. See Samsung’s Galaxy phone and Chromebook guide and Google’s Android app guidance.

Can I get my phone notifications and texts on my Chromebook?
Yes, these are among the capabilities Google documents for a connected Android phone. Depending on feature availability and the options you enable, the connection can provide synced chat notifications and photos, let you send and receive text messages on the Chromebook, share the phone’s network, and support phone-based Chromebook unlocking. Phone Hub can also show phone signal and battery status, recent photos and screenshots, and notifications, and offer controls such as turning on the hotspot, silencing the phone, or locating it.

For Phone Hub, turn on Bluetooth on the phone and select the Phone icon beside the time on the Chromebook to start its setup. Google’s Phone Hub instructions state a Chromebook M89 or later and Android 5.1 or later as their version baselines. These are the requirements given for Phone Hub in that guide, not a universal guarantee that every listed capability works with every Samsung phone. Check the options shown for your connected device in Google’s Phone Hub instructions.
Which connection features should I enable?
Notifications, photos, and messages
Enable the notification and messaging options you actually need in Settings > Connected devices and the connected phone’s settings. Texting from the Chromebook depends on the phone connection and the available controls; it does not mean every phone app or conversation will appear on the Chromebook.

Phone Hub controls and recent items
Phone Hub adds a phone-status view and quick controls alongside access to recent photos and screenshots. Its feature toggles are in the connected-device settings. If an option does not appear, it may not be supported by the device, software, or administrator policy.

Google describes app streaming for select devices, but Samsung is not among the phone families named in its eligibility list. The listed examples are Pixel 4A or later, Nothing Phone (1) and (2), and selected Xiaomi models: 12T, 12T Pro, 13, and 13 Pro, with Android 13 or later specified for the listed Android 13 devices. Google’s page also says select Android 13 or later devices support streaming; that statement does not establish Samsung eligibility. Do not count on app streaming for a Galaxy phone unless Google’s current device guidance confirms support for your specific model.

For eligible phones, Google says streaming requires the phone and Chromebook to be close and connected to the same Wi-Fi network; some networks are unsupported. Required permissions include notifications, photos/media, and apps. DRM-protected entertainment apps may not work as expected. Details are in Google’s Phone Hub feature guidance.
Should I share my phone’s mobile data?
Instant Tethering can connect a Chromebook to the phone’s network when Wi-Fi is unavailable. Google lists ChromeOS 71 or later, Android 8.1 or later, the same Google Account on both devices, and a Chromebook model that supports Instant Hotspot as requirements. Bluetooth must also be on for the phone connection flow.

Google’s Smart Lock instructions require a connected phone, internet access, the same Google Account on both devices, Bluetooth enabled, an unlocked phone, and a screen lock set on the phone. The phone must run Android L-MR1 or later. Smart Lock is on by default after connecting, and you can turn it off under Settings > Connected devices > your phone.

If Chromebook unlocking is waiting for verification, select Verify to request it again. If it still fails, check internet access and restart both devices. If the phone is stolen, Google advises changing the Google Account password promptly. See Google’s Smart Lock instructions.
What to do if the phone will not connect
- Confirm account and software: Make sure both devices use the same Google Account, then update Android and Google Play Services.
- Check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Turn on both on the phone, especially when switching to a different phone.
- Remove an old connection: If replacing a phone, disconnect the old phone first. For Phone Hub trouble, remove the previous Bluetooth pairing from both devices, toggle Bluetooth off and on on the phone, and restart the Chromebook.
- Try another phone entry: If the Chromebook lists several entries for your phone, try the first. If it has not connected after a few minutes, forget that entry and try another.
- Check device management: A work or school administrator can restrict phone connection features. Contact the administrator if settings are unavailable or blocked.
