If your Samsung Galaxy phone won’t charge, start by checking the power source, cable, and connection. Then inspect the port safely and look for a moisture warning or overheating. If it still fails with a compatible, known-good charger and cable, use Samsung Members’ Cable charging diagnostic or arrange a service inspection.
First, identify what the phone is doing
A phone that does not begin charging calls for different checks from one that charges slowly or stops at a set level. For a complete failure, focus first on the outlet, charger, cable, port, and moisture warning. If charging starts but is slow or capped, also consider heat, fast-charging settings, Battery protection, and the power source.

Exact menus, charging features, and compatible accessories depend on the Galaxy model and software version. Do not assume a particular charger wattage or that every model supports the same charging options.

- Reconnect the cable. Unplug it from both the phone and power source, then connect it firmly at both ends.
- Try another power source. Test a different wall outlet or a known-good power source.
- Swap the charger and cable. If available, try a known-good charger and cable compatible with your specific Galaxy model. Samsung recommends accessories designed for the device; compatibility can affect whether charging works and how quickly it proceeds. See Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guide.
- Check for damage. Look for visible damage to the cable or adapter. Stop using an accessory that is damaged.
A computer may supply less power than a wall adapter. If the phone charges from a wall adapter but not a PC, treat that as a power-source issue and follow Samsung’s guidance on charging from a computer rather than assuming the phone’s battery has failed.

Inspect the charging port without probing it
Turn the phone off, then use a flashlight to look for visible lint or foreign material in the port. Samsung’s US guidance says to remove debris carefully and avoid metal objects or liquids. Do not push a pin, needle, or other object into the connector, scrape forcefully, or pour cleaner into it.
If the cable will not seat properly, the port looks damaged, or debris cannot be removed without probing the connector, stop and ask a service provider to inspect the phone.

If you see a water-drop warning, stop wired charging
The warning is a protection signal, not a prompt to keep trying the cable. Unplug the phone and wait until the charging port is completely dry before connecting it again. Samsung states: “Even on water-resistant Galaxy devices, the charging port must be completely dry before charging.” Water resistance does not make it safe to charge through a wet port.
- With the cable disconnected, gently shake the phone with the port facing down.
- Wipe the outside with a clean, soft cloth.
- Leave the phone in a ventilated place to dry. Cool air is appropriate; do not connect a cable until the port is completely dry.
Humidity can trigger a moisture alert even when the phone was not visibly dropped in water. If the phone is dry but the warning remains, Samsung Philippines’ water-drop warning guidance suggests restarting and clearing the USB cache. The steps and menu names can vary by software version, so treat this as a follow-up rather than a universal first step.

If charging is slow or stops at a limit, check heat and settings
Let a warm phone cool
If the phone is unusually warm, disconnect the charger and let it cool before trying again. Samsung says heat can affect charging, and charging may be reduced or stopped temporarily while the device is hot.
Review the charging options available on your model
Open Settings > Battery and look for charging settings or Battery protection, if those options are available on your phone. Battery protection can limit how far the battery charges, so a charge that stops at a limit may be expected behavior rather than a fault.

Fast charging requires a phone that supports the feature, a compatible charger and cable, and the relevant setting where applicable. Labels and menu paths vary by model and software version. A PC or standard USB device may not provide fast charging; see Samsung’s fast-charging guidance.
Run a diagnostic and decide when to seek service
Samsung Members includes a Cable charging diagnostic. Samsung’s instructions are to open Members, tap Support, start diagnostics, select Cable charging, and review the result. The available labels may vary with the app version.

If the phone still will not charge with a known-good compatible charger and cable, or its battery life has dropped significantly, contact Samsung or visit a service center for a hardware inspection. A software update or reset cannot be assumed to fix a damaged port, battery, or other physical fault.
Which checks matter for your symptom?

For a replacement charger or cable, first identify the exact Galaxy model and choose compatible accessories; charging ratings and supported tiers are not universal. Wireless charging is only an option if that particular model supports it, and it does not resolve the cause of a failed wired connection.
