The right fix depends on how your Galaxy connects: wired Android Auto, wireless Android Auto, or Bluetooth for calls and audio. A cable or USB port can interrupt a wired connection, but it cannot explain a Bluetooth-only dropout. First identify what disappears, then follow the matching checks below; the symptoms alone do not identify a single faulty component.
First identify what is disconnecting
Samsung lists USB, Bluetooth, AUX and Android Auto as distinct ways to connect a Galaxy phone to a car. Android Auto compatibility depends on both the phone and the vehicle, and support for wired Android Auto does not necessarily mean the car supports wireless Android Auto. Check your vehicle manual or its compatibility information before troubleshooting a mode the car may not support. - Android Auto disappears from the dashboard: Determine whether the phone is connected by USB or wirelessly; the checks differ.
- Calls or music stop, but Android Auto stays on screen: Focus on Bluetooth pairing and the car’s saved-device list.
- The phone is plugged in when the connection drops: Test the USB data path, including the cable and the car’s supported port.
If wired Android Auto disconnects
Wired projection relies on a working USB data connection, not just a cable that can charge the phone. Try these checks in order:

- Confirm the car supports Android Auto and that its Android Auto or correct USB input is selected. Make sure Android Auto is enabled in the vehicle’s settings.
- Connect the phone directly to the car with a short, good-quality USB cable that supports data. Google recommends a cable shorter than one metre and advises against hubs and extensions. Samsung also recommends a high-quality cable. Check that the plug fits the car’s supported connector; some vehicles use USB-A to USB-C or Micro-USB-B connections.
- Try another USB port that the vehicle supports for Android Auto. Some ports may charge without carrying data, so consult the vehicle manual rather than assuming every port has the same function.
- Check the phone’s USB port for dirt or debris. If it appears obstructed, avoid forcing a tool into it; seek appropriate service if you cannot safely clear it.
- Restart the phone and infotainment system, then reconnect. If the problem persists, check for phone, Android Auto and vehicle infotainment software updates.
These checks can help isolate a cable, port or software problem, but changing the cable is not guaranteed to stop every drop. Google’s Android Auto connection troubleshooting and Samsung’s USB connection guidance cover cable and port checks.

If wireless Android Auto disconnects
Start by verifying that your exact vehicle supports wireless Android Auto. A car that supports Android Auto over USB may not support wireless projection. Use the vehicle manual’s setup and pairing procedure, and keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled as required for the wireless connection.
Samsung’s UK guidance lists Android 8.0 or later, a data plan and 5 GHz Wi-Fi support among wireless Android Auto requirements. Those details are from a UK support page; check current compatibility for your phone, vehicle and market rather than treating that list as universal. Samsung’s wireless Android Auto guidance describes its requirements. Chevrolet likewise advises enabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for its wireless setup, but its procedure applies to Chevrolet vehicles, not every make. Chevrolet’s Android Auto instructions provide that manufacturer-specific example.

If the car and phone are compatible and the radios are on, restart both the phone and infotainment system, confirm Android Auto is enabled in the vehicle, and check for available phone and car-system updates. Follow the vehicle maker’s instructions for infotainment updates; the menus and process vary by model.

- Turn Bluetooth off and back on, then restart the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system.
- Remove the car’s saved Bluetooth connection from the phone, and delete the phone from the car’s stored-device list.
- Pair the devices again using the vehicle manual’s instructions. Menu labels can vary because Samsung uses a customized version of Android; Google’s general Android instructions may not match every Galaxy screen exactly.
See Google’s Bluetooth pairing and connection steps for Android. If calls or audio still disconnect after pairing afresh, check for phone and vehicle-system updates and consult the car maker about vehicle-specific Bluetooth support.

The official support guidance does not establish one universal cause for intermittent disconnections or a specific Galaxy model bug for an unspecified phone-and-car combination. If the checks above do not help, gather details that can distinguish a phone-side problem from a car-side one:

- Galaxy model and phone software version
- Car year and model, plus infotainment software version if available
- Whether the connection is wired Android Auto, wireless Android Auto, or Bluetooth calls/audio
- Whether another phone stays connected in the same car, and whether your Galaxy stays connected in another compatible car
Those comparisons are diagnostic checks, not proof on their own. For vehicle compatibility, infotainment firmware or car-specific setup, contact the vehicle maker or service centre. Samsung’s support guidance also directs users to the vehicle maker or service centre when its checks do not resolve the issue.
