They are separate systems, and the right way to remove a restriction depends on which one is active. Use the steps below only for a device or account you are authorized to manage; Family Link changes may require the parent or guardian, and deleting a child’s Google account is not a routine way to exit Samsung Kids.
Identify which parental control is active
Start with what appears on the screen and where the restriction is managed. Samsung Kids is a child-focused environment with its own PIN. Samsung Account family controls are configured under a Samsung Account’s Family settings. Google Family Link supervises a Google account, so its rules can remain in effect even after leaving Samsung Kids.

Menu names and availability can vary by device, software version, and region. Samsung’s Portugal guide says Samsung Account child controls are available on Galaxy devices with One UI 6.1 or later; that is a regional statement about those controls, not a minimum version for every parental-control feature. Exit Samsung Kids when you know the PIN
- Open the Samsung Kids home screen.
- Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then tap Close Samsung Kids.
- Enter the configured PIN when prompted.
Samsung requires the PIN to exit Samsung Kids and to adjust its settings and features. This closes the Kids environment; it does not, by itself, stop Google Family Link supervision. Samsung’s instructions are in Samsung Kids on your Galaxy phone or tablet.

Recover a forgotten Samsung Kids PIN
Samsung’s US support instructions offer an email-based recovery route after five incorrect PIN attempts in a row. When prompted, send a blank email from the email address registered for Samsung Kids to [email protected]. Samsung says it will reply with a temporary password that can be used to reset the PIN. Check the spam folder if the reply does not appear. This procedure is documented on Samsung’s US support page; availability may differ by country or software revision.
Change the Samsung Kids lock method or reset Kids
Use the phone’s screen lock
- From Samsung Kids Home, tap More options > Settings.
- Tap Lock type for Parental controls, then select Phone’s screen lock.
- If the phone has no screen lock, first exit Samsung Kids using its current PIN. Then go to Settings > Security and privacy > Lock screen > Screen lock and set one. The next time Samsung Kids is used, it will prompt for the device lock.
Reset Samsung Kids only when you understand the effect
Samsung Kids Settings includes Reset Samsung Kids, which Samsung describes as resetting the app and all related information. A reset is different from simply closing Kids. Keep access to the device and relevant account credentials before choosing it. Samsung’s page does not say that this reset removes Google Family Link supervision.

Change Samsung Account family controls
On a supported Galaxy device, Samsung’s Portugal guide describes this path: Settings > Samsung Account > Family > child account. The available controls include web content, age categories for apps and games, downloads and purchases, and Family Link time limits. These Samsung Account settings are distinct from Google Family Link supervision, even where the controls work alongside it. Availability and menu labels can vary by region and software version; consult Samsung’s Galaxy for Families guide.

Family Link supervision is attached to the child’s Google account, not merely to Samsung Kids. Samsung’s US guidance says a child may opt out at 18, with Google sending instructions shortly after the birthday; the child may remain in the family group. For children under 18, Samsung states: “Children that are still under 18 cannot have an unsupervised Google account, so if you wish to remove them from supervision, you will have to delete their account.” That is account deletion, not a toggle for leaving Samsung Kids.

If the child is under 18
Samsung’s US guide describes account deletion as the route to remove supervision for a child under 18. This deletes the child’s Google account, so do not proceed unless that loss is understood and intended. The parent first removes the child’s Google account from devices, then uses the parent’s Family Link app:
- Select the child’s profile.
- Go to Controls > Account settings > Account info > Delete account.
- Review and follow the prompts.
These age and account instructions are Samsung US guidance and may depend on the applicable country and account rules. Read Samsung’s Family Link support page before taking an account-level action.

If the child is 18 or older
Samsung’s US page says opt-out eligibility begins at age 18 and that Google sends instructions shortly after the birthday. The child may remain in the family group. Follow the instructions Google provides for that account rather than using Samsung Kids reset as a substitute.

When you cannot identify or change the restriction
- If the screen is Samsung Kids and requests a PIN, use the Kids PIN or the documented recovery method; a Google account change is not the same control.
- If restrictions remain after closing Samsung Kids, check whether Google Family Link or Samsung Account family settings are also active.
- If an account-level setting is managed by a parent or guardian, have that authorized adult make the change.
- For menu differences or region-specific support, use the relevant Samsung support page for your country and device.
