The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) is a 32-inch flat 4K OLED gaming monitor with a 240Hz maximum refresh rate. It suits buyers who want deep blacks, fast motion, reduced glare, and built-in streaming apps in one display. Its main drawbacks are OLED burn-in risk, limited performance in strongly lit rooms, dimmer large HDR highlights, possible text fringing, and the absence of Dolby Vision and USB-C connectivity in RTINGS’ comparisons.
Identifying the exact model
Samsung markets this display as the Odyssey OLED G8 G80SD. The unit RTINGS tested is labeled S32DG80, and Samsung Canada’s full model code is LS32DG802SNXZA. Model codes differ by region and retailer, so compare the label on the back of the monitor or the listing’s full code against the one in this article before you buy.

Where it performs well
RTINGS rates the monitor as strong for console gaming, PC gaming, video, office work, and photo and video editing. Its review highlights near-instant response, deep blacks, vivid color, sharp 4K detail, good reflection handling, and compatibility with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Blacks, color, and motion
OLED pixels switch off completely for true black, so dark scenes and letterboxed video have far more contrast than on an LCD. Combined with the 240Hz refresh rate and fast pixel response, this suits fast shooters and racing games, where motion clarity matters as much as image quality.
Glare handling
The matte coating reduces reflections in ordinary room lighting. RTINGS also says it can reduce letter fringing compared with some QD-OLED alternatives, though it does not eliminate fringing.
Built-in streaming
The Tizen platform, streaming apps, and remote let the monitor double as a streaming display in a bedroom or desk setup. Many high-refresh OLED monitors lack this kind of smart-TV platform.
Cooling and recognition
Samsung says its Dynamic Cooling System diffuses heat “5 times better” than the older graphite-sheet method, based on its own internal testing. In July 2024, Samsung Newsroom published selected reviewer praise for the G8 in an article dated July 18, 2024, including a 2024 Editors’ Choice award from Home Theater Review. Because Samsung chose these excerpts, treat them as attributed praise rather than a consensus.

Where it falls short
Brightness in bright rooms
Samsung’s typical brightness is 250 cd/m². RTINGS says the monitor handles a few lights but cannot overcome strong glare. The matte screen helps, but a room with direct sunlight or powerful lamps is a poor match for this display.
HDR highlights
RTINGS finds that small HDR highlights stand out against the deep blacks, while larger bright areas appear dimmer. Do not expect uniform full-screen HDR brightness just because OLED black levels are excellent.
Text fringing
Text is sharp at 4K, but RTINGS notes some letter fringing. The matte coating reduces it but does not remove it. If you spend long hours coding or reading small text, check the screen in person if you can.
OLED burn-in
Burn-in remains a risk on any OLED. Samsung lists several protections: a cooling system, dimming of static logos and taskbars in AV mode, and a screensaver that dims the image after 10 minutes of inactivity. Samsung Canada says burn-in under normal use is covered within the warranty, while commercial use, abuse, and misuse are excluded. These terms are regional, so check your local warranty. The safeguards lower the risk but do not make burn-in impossible, and no long-term burn-in failure rate for this model was published in the sources reviewed.
Missing features
RTINGS says the G80SD does not support Dolby Vision and lacks USB-C connectivity in its comparisons. The table below compares it with two competitors RTINGS names.

Who should buy it, and who should not
The G80SD fits a buyer who wants a large 4K OLED for fast PC or console gaming, plus built-in streaming apps and reduced glare. The 4K resolution gives more detail than a 1440p monitor, but it also requires more GPU power. RTINGS notes that a 1440p display makes higher frame rates easier to reach on less powerful hardware.
Look elsewhere if you:
- Work in a sunlit room or need very high brightness
- Need spotless text rendering for long coding or document sessions
- Require Dolby Vision or USB-C video and KVM features
- Are uncomfortable managing OLED static-image exposure
When comparing models, check native resolution against the frame rates your GPU can sustain, reflection handling and brightness, text clarity, HDR format support, connectivity, smart-TV features, and warranty terms.
Reviewer quotes
Samsung Newsroom quoted CGMagazine: “The Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SD struts the most when it is pedaling its breakneck 240hz refresh rate over its stunning 4K display.” Trusted Reviews is quoted calling the monitor “Highly Recommended,” and Forbes is quoted discussing the Pulsating Heat Pipe and the glare-reducing screen. All of these excerpts were selected by Samsung for its July 18, 2024 article.
