Yes, some Samsung Odyssey G7 monitors are 4K. The G70B and G70D generations use 3,840 × 2,160 (4K UHD) panels, while Samsung’s older 2020 Odyssey G7 was QHD at 2,560 × 1,440. “Odyssey G7” is a family name, not a resolution guarantee.

To identify the right display, check the complete model code, screen size and regional product page. The specifications below are Samsung’s published figures, not independent measurements of image quality, input lag or motion performance.

What “4K Odyssey G7” actually means

In Samsung’s naming, “G7” covers multiple generations and sizes. A listing that says only Odyssey G7 is incomplete: it could describe a 4K G70B/G70D or the earlier curved QHD G7 released around 2020. The decisive evidence is the full model code and the stated resolution.

4K UHD means 3,840 pixels horizontally by 2,160 vertically. Compared with QHD’s 2,560 × 1,440, 4K renders a substantially denser desktop and can show finer detail in games, text and high-resolution video. Driving that many pixels at a high refresh rate also places a greater workload on the graphics hardware, so the monitor’s 4K label does not by itself guarantee 144-frame-per-second gameplay.

Confirmed 4K Odyssey G7 models

The following models are identified as 4K on Samsung product pages or datasheets. Regional suffixes and included features can differ, so treat each row as a specific example rather than a universal specification for every G7-branded screen.

Model and market example Resolution and size Panel and refresh Published response, brightness and contrast HDR and adaptive sync Other listed details
27-inch Odyssey G70D, US, LS27DG702ENXZA 4K UHD, 3,840 × 2,160 IPS; up to 144 Hz 1 ms GTG; 350 cd/m² typical; 1000:1 static contrast VESA DisplayHDR 400; HDR10+ Gaming; FreeSync Premium; G-Sync Compatible Samsung markets this page as a smart gaming monitor
32-inch Odyssey G70D, UK 4K UHD, 3,840 × 2,160 IPS; maximum 144 Hz 1 ms GTG; 350 cd/m² typical; 1000:1 static contrast VESA DisplayHDR 400; other formats not stated on the cited page Ergonomic stand adjustments; CoreSync and CoreLighting+
28-inch Odyssey G70B, US 4K UHD, 3,840 × 2,160 IPS; maximum 144 Hz 1 ms GTG; brightness and static contrast not stated on the cited page VESA DisplayHDR 400; HDR10+; HDR10+ Gaming; FreeSync Premium Pro; G-Sync Compatible Exact stand and smart-function details depend on the listing

Samsung’s pages describe these as manufacturer specifications. A “1 ms GTG” rating is a stated response-time target, not proof that every transition measures 1 ms in an independent test. The same caution applies to the HDR labels, refresh-rate maximum and adaptive-sync compatibility.

The older Odyssey G7 is not 4K

Samsung’s August 2020 Odyssey G7 datasheet specifies QHD resolution, 2,560 × 1,440. That model belongs to the same G7 family but is a different generation from the G70B and G70D examples above. If a used-market listing, retailer title or review omits the generation, look for the resolution in the technical section and request the rear-label model code before buying.

A QHD G7 can still be a suitable high-refresh gaming monitor, but it should not be advertised as a 4K display. The difference affects desktop sharpness, GPU load, console compatibility and the sort of cable or graphics output you need.

How to read the key G70B and G70D specifications

Resolution and pixel density

Every confirmed G70B/G70D example in the table uses 3,840 × 2,160. At the same diagonal size, a 27- or 28-inch 4K screen packs more pixels per inch than a 32-inch model, making small text and fine game detail appear tighter. A 32-inch version provides a larger physical image, which some players prefer for viewing distance and split-screen use.

IPS panel

The cited 27-inch and 32-inch G70D pages and the 28-inch G70B page identify IPS panels. IPS is generally chosen for consistent viewing angles and color behavior across the screen. It does not establish black-level performance, uniformity or factory calibration; those require measurements that are not supplied here.

Samsung 37” Odyssey G7 (G75F) Series 4K UHD Curved Gaming Monitor | 165Hz, 1ms Response Time (GtG), VESA DisplayHDR™ 600, AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro (LS37FG75DENXZA)
  • Samsung’s 37” 4K UHD Odyssey G7 Curved Gaming Monitor provides spectacular realism.
  • 37” 1000R curved display with 4K UHD resolution wraps around the field of vision for next-level gaming.
  • VESA DisplayHDR 600 delivers more contrast, with deeper blacks and brighter whites for greater clarity even in dark scenes.
  • 165Hz refresh rate and near-instant 1ms response time (GtG) minimizes lag for ultra-smooth gameplay.

144 Hz maximum refresh

Samsung lists up to 144 Hz for all three 4K examples. A 144 Hz setting can present a new frame roughly every 6.9 milliseconds when the computer actually delivers a matching frame rate. Your system, game settings, selected input and cable must all support the chosen 4K refresh mode. If the source can render only 60 frames per second, the monitor will not create additional game frames by itself.

1 ms GTG response rating

“1 ms GTG” refers to a gray-to-gray transition rating under Samsung’s stated conditions. It is useful for comparing the manufacturer’s target, but it is not the same as a complete motion test. Overshoot, dark-level transitions and the monitor’s overdrive setting can change what you see in practice.

Brightness and contrast

The two cited G70D pages list 350 cd/m² typical brightness and 1000:1 static contrast. The G70B page cited here confirms the 4K IPS and gaming features but does not state matching brightness or contrast figures, so do not copy the G70D numbers into a G70B listing without checking that model’s own specification sheet.

HDR formats

VESA DisplayHDR 400 appears on all three cited 4K examples. The 27-inch G70D additionally lists HDR10+ Gaming; the G70B page lists HDR10+, HDR10+ Gaming and DisplayHDR 400. The UK 32-inch G70D page lists DisplayHDR 400, while the other HDR formats are not stated there. Certification or format support identifies compatibility; it does not guarantee a particular brightness curve, local-dimming behavior or cinematic HDR effect.

Adaptive synchronization

The US G70D example lists FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible. The G70B lists FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible. These features can coordinate the monitor’s refresh timing with a compatible graphics source to reduce tearing, but the available range and behavior depend on the connected device and selected mode.

Stand and lighting features

Samsung’s UK 32-inch G70D page describes ergonomic stand adjustments and CoreSync/CoreLighting+ features. Those details should not be assumed for every size or region: verify the exact page if height, tilt, swivel, pivot or rear lighting matters to your setup.

How to verify a retailer listing before purchase

  1. Find the full model code. Look beyond “Odyssey G7” for a code such as LS27DG702ENXZA or LS28BG702ENXGO. A size-only title is not enough.
  2. Confirm the resolution in the specification block. It should say 3,840 × 2,160 or 4K UHD. If it says 2,560 × 1,440, it is QHD, regardless of the G7 branding.
  3. Match the screen size and region. A 27-inch US G70D and a 32-inch UK G70D are related but not identical listings. Warranty, bundled accessories, ports and software can vary by market.
  4. Check refresh and response wording. “Up to 144 Hz” and “1 ms GTG” are Samsung’s published maximum/rating terms. Confirm which inputs support the mode you intend to use.
  5. Review HDR and sync labels separately. DisplayHDR 400, HDR10+, FreeSync and G-Sync Compatible describe different aspects of compatibility. Do not treat one label as a substitute for the others.
  6. Save the manufacturer page for the exact suffix. Retailer data can merge generations or reuse photographs. Samsung’s regional page is the better reference for the configuration you are ordering.

Choosing between a 4K G70B and G70D

Choose the G70D when the exact size and ergonomics fit

The G70D is documented here in 27-inch US and 32-inch UK forms. Both have IPS panels, 4K resolution, 144 Hz maximum refresh, 1 ms GTG, 350 cd/m² typical brightness and 1000:1 static contrast. The 27-inch US specification adds HDR10+ Gaming, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible; the 32-inch UK page emphasizes the adjustable stand and CoreSync/CoreLighting+.

Choose the G70B when its HDR and sync combination is the priority

The cited 28-inch G70B combines 4K IPS, 144 Hz and 1 ms GTG with DisplayHDR 400, HDR10+, HDR10+ Gaming, FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible. Samsung does not state the same brightness and contrast figures on that page, so compare the complete regional specification rather than assuming it is identical to the G70D.

Do not choose by generation name alone

Neither “G70B” nor “G70D” tells you every practical difference between regional versions. Compare the exact code, diagonal size, stand, ports, HDR formats, adaptive-sync tier and smart functions on the listing you will receive. Samsung’s specifications establish feature support, not which screen has lower measured latency or better uniformity.

What 4K 144 Hz means for your setup

To use the monitor at its highest advertised mode, the computer or console must output 3,840 × 2,160 at the desired refresh rate through a compatible connection. Set the display resolution and refresh rate in the operating system or game device, then confirm that the monitor’s on-screen information reports the intended mode. If the option is missing, test another input, cable or graphics-output setting before assuming the panel is defective.

Higher resolution increases the number of pixels rendered per frame. Competitive players who value maximum frame rate may lower in-game quality settings or select a lower resolution, while visually focused players may prefer 4K detail at a lower frame rate. Adaptive sync is most useful when frame delivery varies within the monitor’s supported range; it cannot raise the source’s frame rate.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

  • Mistake: assuming every G7 is 4K. Fix: verify the model code and explicit 3,840 × 2,160 specification.
  • Mistake: treating 1 ms as an independently measured result. Fix: regard it as Samsung’s GTG rating and seek testing if motion clarity or latency is critical.
  • Mistake: transferring US specifications to a UK or other regional model. Fix: use the page for your market and size; mark any unlisted item as unconfirmed.
  • Mistake: expecting HDR branding to predict real-world HDR impact. Fix: check the complete HDR specification and remember that certification does not describe every aspect of brightness or contrast behavior.
  • Mistake: buying a monitor that the system cannot drive at 4K 144 Hz. Fix: verify the graphics source, output settings and cable capability before purchase.

Bottom line for shoppers

The Samsung Odyssey G7 name covers both 4K and QHD displays. The G70B and G70D examples documented by Samsung are 4K UHD monitors with IPS panels and up to 144 Hz, while the August 2020 G7 datasheet is QHD. Match the complete model code, size and regional specification to your needs, and treat Samsung’s performance figures as published specifications rather than independent test results.
