Before you change settings, identify your display and goal
Write down the full Samsung model code, the input connected to your computer, your operating system, and whether you want to tune SDR or HDR. These details affect which controls and calibration tools apply. Find the manual for that exact model and look for its picture-mode controls and reset or default option; menu labels from another Samsung display may not match yours.

Decide what you need from calibration. For everyday browsing and office work, choosing a suitable picture mode and setting brightness comfortably for the room may be enough. Photo, design, or video work that depends on consistent color calls for a measured workflow if accuracy matters; judging by eye does not measure color accuracy.
Adjust the monitor’s picture settings
Choose a suitable picture mode
Use the modes and controls documented in your own monitor’s manual. If it offers a neutral or standard mode, that can be a sensible starting point. Adjust brightness for your viewing conditions and intended use rather than copying numbers from a different model. The available sources do not establish universal brightness, gamma, or white-point values for Samsung monitors.

Understand why controls may be missing
Settings can depend on both model and picture mode. For example, Samsung’s DB22D-P professional display manual lists backlight, contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, tint, color temperature, white balance, gamma, and color-space controls. It also notes that some options are disabled in particular modes and that settings can be saved per input. That manual is dated September 19, 2014, and describes the DB22D-P specifically; it is not a menu guide for every Samsung desktop monitor. See the DB22D-P manual.
Change optional image-processing or dynamic effects only when your model’s manual explains them and they suit your use. If a control is unavailable, check the selected picture mode and input before assuming the display lacks the feature.

Decide whether you need a measured calibration
A monitor calibration colorimeter measures a display so compatible software can create or update profile data. It is optional: basic picture adjustments do not require one. If you need repeatable color for creative work, verify support for your exact monitor or panel, sensor, software, input path, and operating system before buying anything. The Samsung material available here does not establish a universal sensor or software combination for consumer monitors.

Samsung’s Color Expert LED documentation describes colorimeter-based calibration, including color temperature, white balance, gamut mapping, and screen uniformity, for professional LED signage. It does not show that the signage software supports ordinary Samsung desktop monitors. Read the Color Expert LED datasheet.
There is also a model-specific Samsung example: the S27B970D manual describes a Calibration color mode that analyzes the monitor’s color characteristics and saves information as an ICC profile. It says color settings are disabled while that mode is active. This is a feature documented for the S27B970D, not a general capability to expect on other models. Manage the display’s color profile in Windows
A monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) settings and a Windows color profile are related, but they do different jobs. OSD controls change the monitor’s image settings; an ICC profile describes color characteristics for software that uses it. Applying a profile does not physically change the monitor’s OSD settings, and it does not guarantee that every application will use color management.

- In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Color profile.
- Select the display you want to manage, especially if multiple monitors are connected.
- Add or remove a profile, set a default profile, or start display calibration using the available controls.
- Use a profile made for the specific display and calibration state you are using.

Calibrate HDR separately in Windows 11
Windows HDR calibration is a different workflow from SDR profile management. For a compatible external HDR display, turn HDR on for the intended screen and run the Windows HDR Calibration app full screen on that display. Follow its patterns to adjust dark-detail visibility, bright-detail visibility, and maximum display brightness. The app also allows saturation adjustment for SDR and HDR content while HDR is on.

- Set up HDR for the external display in Windows and open the Windows HDR Calibration app on the display you intend to calibrate.
- Run the app full screen and adjust each test pattern as directed, including the dark, bright, and maximum-brightness patterns.
- Use the display under normal room lighting. Microsoft cautions that display post-processing effects may interfere with calibration.
- Rerun calibration if you change the display setup.
Microsoft says the app’s three test patterns are recommended by the HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGIG) for a better HDR gaming experience. The app’s process does not replace the Samsung monitor’s own HDR controls or its manual; available settings and brightness behavior still depend on the display model. Do not confuse this external-display app with Windows’ built-in HDR video calibration feature: Microsoft says that feature applies only to built-in displays and directs users with external HDR displays to the Windows HDR Calibration app. See Microsoft’s guidance for built-in HDR displays.
