The Samsung M80H is a good-value gaming TV that is weak at the things the “Mini LED” label implies. RTINGS bought and tested the 65-inch model (review dated June 3, 2026). It found 144Hz support, HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, very low input lag and a wide VRR range. It also found disappointing peak brightness, no local dimming and very blurry motion. If you play games in a dim or moderately lit room, the M80H makes sense. If you want punchy HDR movies or a TV for a sunny living room, it probably doesn’t.
Which models this review covers
The 2026 M80H is a 4K Mini LED smart TV sold in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. The US model numbers are UN55M80HAFXZA, UN65M80HAFXZA, UN75M80HAFXZA and UN85M80HAFXZA. Samsung’s US page lists the 55-inch as UN55M80HAFXZA.

One scope point matters. RTINGS tested only the 65-inch sample. It states that its results also apply to the 55-, 75- and 85-inch versions, so the findings below are one tested unit extended to the family, not four separate lab tests. Samsung’s global 2026 lineup announcement places the M80H above the M70H in its standard Mini LED range and pitches it at sports, gaming and everyday viewing. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not a measured result.

Gaming: the M80H’s reason to exist
Refresh rate and ports
Samsung’s specification sheet lists three HDMI ports that accept up to 4K/144Hz input, plus eARC. Samsung notes that 4K/144Hz applies when a PC-connected game supports those specifications. RTINGS confirms the TV handles 144Hz and has full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

Consoles and VRR
RTINGS reports compatibility with PS5 features including 4K/120Hz, 1440p/120Hz and HDMI Forum VRR. The variable refresh rate range is wide, and input lag is very low. Those are the figures that matter most for competitive and fast-paced play. Samsung also includes its Gaming Hub on the spec sheet.
Why the motion complaint still matters
A TV accepting a 144Hz signal is a separate matter from how cleanly it renders moving objects. RTINGS lists very blurry motion as a drawback. Expect smooth frame delivery and responsive controls, but not necessarily sharp detail in fast on-screen movement.

Picture quality: where the Mini LED label misleads
No local dimming
Mini LED usually suggests many small backlight zones that dim independently. RTINGS reports that the tested M80H has a complete lack of local dimming, and says that is why black levels look washed out. Samsung’s marketing describes the set as Mini LED, but that label shouldn’t be read as proof of effective dimming. The same review does credit good native contrast and black uniformity, so the panel itself isn’t poor. It just can’t darken parts of the backlight to deepen dark scenes.
HDR and bright rooms
RTINGS calls the peak brightness disappointing. It says the TV isn’t bright enough to overcome strong daytime glare or to deliver an impactful HDR experience in bright scenes. The review excerpt I have doesn’t give exact brightness figures, so I won’t quote any. HDR content will play, but highlights won’t have much punch.

Who should buy it
A good fit
- Console or PC gamers who want 4K/120 or 144Hz with VRR on a budget.
- Players who use the TV mainly in a dim or controlled-light room.
- Buyers who want a large screen at 75 or 85 inches without paying for premium HDR.
A poor fit
- People who watch HDR movies in the dark and want deep blacks, since there is no local dimming.
- Rooms with big windows or strong daytime glare.
- Sports fans who prioritize crisp motion over low input lag.
A frequent reader question is whether the M80H is worth it for movies and sports. Based on the independent findings, it’s a compromise for both: it has the brightness and contrast shortfalls for film and the motion blur that hurts sports. Gaming is the clearest strength.
Price
Samsung US listings I saw showed $599.99 for the 55-inch and $999.99 for the 75-inch. I couldn’t establish comparable current US prices for the 65- and 85-inch models. Prices and stock change often, so check all four sizes at checkout and compare against rival sets before you buy.

How to compare it with alternatives
I haven’t seen head-to-head results against the whole market, so I can’t call the M80H the best gaming TV at its price. Check any competitor on these points:

Setup notes
- Audio: eARC on the HDMI ports lets you send sound to a soundbar. Samsung’s Q-Symphony works with compatible Samsung TVs and soundbars, so check compatibility for any specific model.
- Wall mounting: Samsung’s Mexico page for the 75-inch family mentions a Full Motion Slim Wall Mount (Y22). That’s a regional listing and doesn’t show that the mount fits or ships with US models, so confirm the mounting pattern and weight rating first.
- Regional differences: The M80H family is sold in several markets. Don’t assume specs, suffixes, bundles or accessories from another country apply to the US models above.
