For a portable speaker made to clip onto a bag and use outdoors, the JBL Clip 5 is the more clearly documented choice: it weighs 285 g, has an integrated carabiner and carries an IP67 rating. The Samsung Level Box mini is an older, heavier design, but Samsung claimed up to 25 hours of music playback. That runtime is a manufacturer figure, not a head-to-head battery test. “JBL Clip” covers multiple generations, so this comparison uses the Clip 5 as the main reference and identifies Clip 4 separately.

Which is better for carrying outdoors?
The Clip 5 is lighter by 107 g and its integrated carabiner is designed to attach to a bag or another suitable carry point. JBL also lists an IP67 rating, making it the more evidence-backed choice if documented water and dust protection matters. Follow the manufacturer’s care guidance; a rating is not a guarantee against every kind of damage.
Samsung’s 2014 announcement gives the Level Box mini’s dimensions and weight, but does not state an IP rating. Treat that as an unknown, not proof that the speaker is either protected or unprotected. If you are considering a used unit, inspect its condition and do not assume it is suitable for wet or dusty environments.

How long does the battery last?
Samsung stated that the Level Box mini could play music for up to 25 hours on its 1,600 mAh battery. It also listed up to 30 hours of talk time and 1,000 hours on standby. These are Samsung’s published figures from 2014, not independently measured results.
JBL lists up to 12 hours of Clip 5 playback, plus up to 3 hours with Playtime Boost. Both brands’ figures are manufacturer claims, and the available information does not establish matching test conditions. Actual runtime can depend on volume, audio content and settings, so the numbers should not be read as a controlled comparison or a promise of everyday use.

What does “JBL Clip” mean? Check the generation
JBL Clip models have different specifications. The Clip 5 is the primary reference here because JBL has a current product page for it. The earlier Clip 4 is not interchangeable with Clip 5: JBL’s Clip 4 specification sheet lists 5 W RMS, a 40 mm transducer, Bluetooth 5.1, IP67, a weight of 239 g and up to 10 hours of playback. JBL says Clip 4 runtime varies with volume and audio content. JBL Clip 4 specification sheet, 2020

Does one sound better?
The listed driver, output and frequency-response figures describe products on paper; they do not establish sound quality or a listening preference. Which speaker should you choose?
Choose the JBL Clip 5 if you want
- A lighter speaker with an integrated carabiner for attaching to a bag or similar carry point.
- A documented IP67 water and dust rating.
- App-based EQ and Auracast multi-speaker features.
Consider the Samsung Level Box mini if you need
- NFC pairing, aptX or the built-in microphone and conference-call features, after confirming they work with your devices and intended setup.
- An older speaker whose form factor and condition suit you, and whose availability and battery condition you can verify directly.
- Its stated longer playback figure, while recognizing it is Samsung’s 2014 claim and not a comparable test against Clip 5.
The JBL Clip 5 portable Bluetooth speaker is the more straightforward pick for clip-on use and documented outdoor protection. If you are shopping for a “JBL Clip,” verify that the listing is specifically for Clip 5 or Clip 4 before using any of the specifications above.
