Samsung Sound is scheduled to shut down on March 31, 2027, according to an in-app notice reported by SamMobile and SammyGuru. The reported replacement is SmartThings, where owners of compatible Samsung soundbars and wireless speakers can register and control their equipment. Consolidating audio with Samsung’s wider smart-home app should be simpler, although the exact controls available after the move depend on the model and region.
What is changing on March 31, 2027?
Samsung Sound is the dedicated app being retired. SamMobile’s October 1, 2026 report and a SammyGuru report both describe an in-app notice telling users that the service will end on March 31, 2027 and directing them to SmartThings.
That date and instruction come from the notice as reported by those Samsung-focused outlets, not from a Samsung-hosted shutdown document included in the available coverage. Treat the deadline as the published transition date, while checking the notice in your own app and any later Samsung support message for region-specific details.
Which devices are in scope?
SamMobile describes Samsung Sound as supporting Bluetooth- and Wi‑Fi-equipped Samsung soundbars and wireless speakers released in 2024 or later. That is a broad description, not a complete model-by-model compatibility list. Older products, region-specific variants and devices with different network capabilities may follow different support paths.

How the move to SmartThings is expected to work
The reports say users will register their devices through SmartThings to continue setup and control. Because the sources do not provide a universal, model-specific migration wizard, use this as a preparation checklist rather than a guaranteed sequence for every product:
- Install or update SmartThings on the phone or tablet you use for device setup.
- Sign in with your Samsung account, if SmartThings asks you to do so.
- Use SmartThings’ add-device flow and select the appropriate Samsung audio product.
- Follow the on-screen pairing and Wi‑Fi instructions for your soundbar or speaker.
- Open the device page and verify the controls you actually use before relying on the new setup.
Do not remove a working Sound setup until the device appears in SmartThings and responds there. If the product is not discovered, confirm that it is powered on, connected to the intended Wi‑Fi network when required, and running the latest available firmware; then check Samsung’s support guidance for that exact model.

Will volume, equalizer and other controls transfer?
SammyGuru describes Sound as providing volume and equalizer controls and reports that SmartThings already exposed some controls that Sound lacked. That makes SmartThings a plausible replacement, but it does not prove feature-for-feature parity after the shutdown.
After adding the device, check the functions that matter to you—such as volume, equalizer presets, input selection, sound modes, firmware updates and multi-device grouping. The available controls can vary by hardware, software version and region. If a control is missing, that is a compatibility or feature-availability question for the specific model, not evidence that the entire migration failed.

Why consolidating the apps is a reasonable cleanup
SmartThings is already Samsung’s broader control app for compatible TVs, appliances, wearables and other connected devices. Its documented functions include device management, routines, connected services, settings and notifications. Keeping audio in that same ecosystem can reduce the number of apps a household needs to remember and puts soundbars and speakers alongside the rest of its Samsung equipment.
The cleanup also addresses an awkward split: Sound was introduced as a dedicated interface intended to replace SmartThings for Samsung audio, yet reporting found that it lacked some controls available in SmartThings. One app with a wider device model is easier to explain than two overlapping control layers.

- FULL, BALANCED SOUND WITH A SUBWOOFER INCLUDED: Immerse yourself in your favorite content with perfectly balanced sound and rich bass from the built-in woofer.
- ONE REMOTE. TOTAL CONTROL: Use your Samsung TV remote to control key soundbar functions, including power, volume and sound effects.
- EXPANDS YOUR LISTENING ZONE SO YOU CAN FEEL THE SOUND ALL AROUND YOU: Experience immersive sound that fills the room. Clear audio is projected in all directions so you can feel the action from every angle.
- SEAMLESSLY CONNECTS TO YOUR TV: Connects to your TV without cable clutter. Just pair and play your favorite content.
- PICK UP EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE: Hear voices more clearly with dialogue automatically amplified so you don't miss a word.
That benefit is practical rather than universal. Someone who owns only one speaker may notice little difference, while a household already using SmartThings has a clearer reason to welcome the change.
What users should do before the deadline
- Note the exact model number and country or region of each Samsung soundbar or wireless speaker.
- Update SmartThings and the audio device’s firmware where updates are offered.
- Add each compatible product in SmartThings and test everyday controls before March 31, 2027.
- Record any custom equalizer settings or room-specific preferences so they can be recreated if they do not carry over.
- Keep the Sound app installed until the SmartThings setup is confirmed; do not assume that buying new hardware is necessary.
What this announcement does not mean
The app retirement does not, on the available evidence, require replacing a soundbar or speaker. It is a software transition. A new Samsung audio product is relevant only if you were already shopping for hardware, not as a remedy for the Sound shutdown.
It also does not establish that every 2024-or-newer device will migrate identically. Samsung’s reports do not itemize supported models, regional differences or a final feature matrix, so owners should verify their particular product in SmartThings rather than infer support from the release year alone.
Bottom line for Samsung Sound owners
Expect Samsung Sound to be retired on March 31, 2027, with SmartThings serving as the reported replacement for compatible Samsung audio devices. The consolidation is a sensible reduction in app sprawl, especially because SmartThings already supports a broader range of Samsung products and may offer controls Sound did not. The important qualification is compatibility: add your exact device, test the controls you use and rely on model- and region-specific guidance for anything SmartThings does not expose.
