That changes the available performance setting; Samsung’s current instructions do not describe it as a universal way to disable or remove the underlying Game Optimization Service (GOS).
What “turn off GOS” means in Samsung’s settings
Samsung’s current instructions describe controls for game performance, not a universal switch that disables the GOS system service. Changing Game optimisation or a game’s individual settings can affect how performance is managed, but the official guidance reviewed here does not say those choices remove or fully disable GOS.

Change Game optimisation on One UI 7
Samsung UK’s One UI 7 guide gives this route to the device-wide Game optimisation setting:

- Tap More options, shown as three vertical dots.
- Open Game Booster.
- Tap Game optimisation.
- Choose Standard or Battery saving if you want an alternative to Performance.
The available modes represent different priorities: Performance prioritises game performance, while Battery saving prioritises lower power use; Standard is the middle choice. Adjust one game without changing the overall setting
Samsung’s One UI 7 guide also describes Customisations for individual games. These controls let you adjust supported settings for a selected game rather than applying the same choice across your games. Depending on the device and software, options can include:

Use this route when one game needs different settings from the rest. The available controls can vary by model, software version, region, and game.
Why older instructions mention Game Booster Labs
For Galaxy S23-series devices, Samsung’s instructions updated 12 February 2024 placed Alternate game performance management under Game Launcher → More options → Game Booster → Labs. Samsung also documented access through the Game Booster panel while a game was open.

That is a device- and version-specific route, not the current universal path. Samsung’s newer One UI 7 guide says the high-performance option formerly in Game Booster Labs moved to the top of the Game Booster settings menu. If you do not see Labs or the older label, use the current menu names available on your phone rather than assuming the option is missing entirely. If the menu names do not match
- Check your phone’s One UI version and open the current Game Booster settings from Gaming Hub.
- Look for Game optimisation rather than assuming Alternate game performance management is still the label used on your device.
- If the setting is absent, consult the manual or Samsung support instructions for your specific Galaxy model and region.
Samsung says Game Booster labels and feature availability can differ by software version, device, and region. Avoid relying on a path from another model or an older software release as proof that your phone has the same controls.

What to expect from Performance mode
Samsung cautions on its Galaxy S23 support page: “Please note: Activating game performance management may increase heat or battery consumption while the game is in progress.” This is a warning about possible effects, not a stated temperature increase, battery-life estimate, or guaranteed FPS improvement. If heat or power use is a concern, choose a less performance-focused mode or adjust the affected game’s settings.
Does changing the setting completely disable the GOS service?
The current Samsung One UI 7 and Galaxy S23 instructions document Game Booster performance controls; they do not establish a universal method to disable the underlying GOS service. A Samsung Members answer from 1 November 2021 said a Galaxy M21 running Android 11 / One UI 3.1 could not disable the service through the suggested app-settings route. That is historical, community-posted guidance for one older setup, not proof of how every current Galaxy behaves. Samsung Members: Galaxy M21 GOS question.
