If it is not there, check Google Photos Trash under the Google account that backed it up, OneDrive for photos synced before Samsung Gallery sync ended on September 30, 2026, and My Files > Recycle bin. These are separate locations with separate retention periods; recovery depends on a copy still existing in one of them or in another backup.
Check Samsung Gallery Trash first
- Open Gallery.
- Tap Menu (the three-line icon), then Trash. The location or label can vary by device and software version.
- Select the photo or video and tap Restore.
Samsung says items deleted from Gallery remain in its Trash for 30 days, after which they are permanently deleted from that feature. See Samsung Canada’s Gallery Trash instructions.

Check Google Photos and the backup account
Open Google Photos and inspect Trash. Also confirm that the app is signed in to the Google account that backed up the missing photo; a picture may be absent from Samsung Gallery but present in a different Google Photos library.
Samsung Spain describes a 60-day Google Photos Trash period, but backup status and platform behavior affect what is available. Check the actual Trash rather than assuming a fixed window applies to every item. Google’s Android guidance says photos absent from both Google Photos Trash and Gallery Trash cannot be restored through those trash locations. Look in OneDrive for photos synced before September 30, 2026
Samsung Gallery Sync with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Photos and videos synced before that date remain in the user’s OneDrive account and can be downloaded to a device; Samsung does not say that new Gallery-to-OneDrive syncing can be enabled after the end date. Open OneDrive, look for the Gallery folder or the file’s location, select the media, and download it. Samsung says deleted OneDrive files remain in its Recycle bin for 93 days and can be restored there. Details: Samsung’s instructions for previously synced photos.
Check Samsung My Files Recycle bin
My Files has a separate Recycle bin from Gallery Trash. Open My Files > Recycle bin, select the file if it is listed, and choose Restore. Samsung says Recycle bin items are permanently deleted after 30 days. Menu names and availability can differ by model and software version. See Samsung’s My Files guidance.

Which recovery route should you try?

If the photo is missing from every trash location
Check any other backup or device where you may have saved a copy. If the photo has been permanently deleted from the applicable trash locations and no other copy exists, the cited official recovery guidance provides no further restoration route. Do not assume a recovery app or storage accessory can bring back a permanently deleted photo.
