The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Xiaomi REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G are built for different priorities: the Fold8 is a book-style foldable with an 8-inch inner screen and a flagship-tier listed processor, while the Redmi is a conventional flat-screen phone with a 9,000mAh typical battery and 67W charging. A reliable India price difference cannot be calculated from the official material available: Samsung lists a price for one configuration, but Xiaomi’s official product and specifications pages do not state the Redmi’s price.
How these phones differ at a glance
The Fold8 opens into a tablet-like screen and also has a cover display for use while folded. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has one large, flat display. Their processors, battery capacities and configurations also differ, so this is not a direct comparison between two versions of the same kind of phone.

Galaxy Z Fold8: a foldable with two screen contexts
The Fold8’s 8-inch main display is the larger viewing canvas when the phone is open. Samsung positions that screen for immersive viewing and the cover screen for quick tasks. The hinge-and-fold design makes it a different choice from a conventional phone, but the specifications alone do not establish how much more productive it will be for any particular person.

REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G: one large, flat display
The Redmi’s 6.83-inch AMOLED panel offers a single-screen layout with a listed 120Hz maximum refresh rate. If you prefer a conventional handset rather than an unfolding screen, this design is the more straightforward fit. The published specifications do not establish a display-quality winner.
Battery capacity and charging: Redmi leads on stated capacity
Xiaomi lists a 9,000mAh typical battery for the Redmi, compared with Samsung’s 4,800mAh for the Fold8. The Redmi also lists 67W charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging. Xiaomi says its India package includes a 67W adapter; Samsung’s India purchase page says a travel adapter is not included.

Capacity is not a runtime test. The figures do not prove how many hours either phone will last or how often you will need to charge it. Screen use, software, network conditions and other factors affect battery life, and no comparable independent endurance result is established here.

Processor names are not benchmark results
Samsung lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, while Xiaomi lists the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. Those manufacturer-listed chip names indicate different stated processor tiers, but they do not quantify a real-world speed gap. No comparable independent benchmark figures are available here.

Camera hardware does not settle image quality
Samsung Newsroom India describes a dual 50MP camera system. Xiaomi lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Megapixel counts and camera specifications do not by themselves show which phone takes better photos; that requires comparable shooting tests.
Match storage configurations before comparing value
Samsung India lists three Fold8 configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 12GB with 512GB, and 16GB with 1TB. Xiaomi India lists the Redmi with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage; its specifications indicate that storage technology varies by capacity. The closest storage match for an entry-configuration comparison is the 256GB version of each, though their RAM amounts still differ.

What is the price difference in India?
The available official India information does not establish a like-for-like price difference. Samsung lists an MRP of ₹184,999 for the Fold8 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Its purchase page also displayed ₹174,999 as a sale price when checked, alongside changeable offers; that figure is not a stable price. Xiaomi’s official India product and specifications pages examined do not state a price for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G.

Without a current official Redmi price, a numeric difference—or a claim that one is better value—would be guesswork. For a useful comparison, check current prices for the same market and compare the Redmi’s 256GB version with the Fold8’s 256GB version, while distinguishing the Samsung MRP from any temporary offer. Prices and availability can change.

Which one should you consider?
- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 if an 8-inch foldable main screen and Samsung’s listed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy fit your priorities. Samsung says the Fold8 weighs 201g and calls it its lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet; that portability description is the company’s own promotional claim.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G if you want a conventional flat-screen design, a much larger stated battery capacity, 67W charging or wired reverse charging.
- Hold off on a value verdict until you have current, comparable prices for the exact storage variants in your market. The available specifications do not establish real-world battery life, comparative camera quality, or benchmark performance.
Warranty, repairs, network compatibility and software-support terms are also market-specific ownership factors. The India product specifications cited here do not establish those details well enough for a regional comparison.
