What is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra?
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra on July 22, 2026, as its high-end book-style foldable. Sales were scheduled to begin in select markets on August 7, with a wider global rollout to follow. Samsung said buyers could find it through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores; exact availability, colors and memory configurations vary by market.

It opens to an 8.0-inch inner display and has a 6.5-inch cover display, both measured diagonally. Samsung notes that rounded corners and the camera opening reduce the actual viewable area. The inner screen is the central reason to consider a book-style foldable: it offers more room for reading, viewing and multitasking than a conventional phone, while the cover screen handles ordinary phone tasks without opening the device.
The phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Samsung lists configurations of 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 1TB storage; which combinations are sold depends on market and channel. It launched with Android 17 and One UI 9. Samsung also lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, subject to market and network limitations.

What do you get for the Ultra premium?
A larger screen for work and media
The 8-inch inner display is the clearest reason to choose this format. It gives compatible apps more room and can make side-by-side tasks more practical than on a standard phone. That benefit matters most if you expect to open the phone often and use the inner panel for documents, browsing, video or multiple apps. If most of your phone use happens on the cover display, the extra screen may not justify the price and bulk of a foldable.
TechRadar praised the slimmer design, a flatter, less noticeable crease and an anti-reflective inner panel. These are meaningful refinements to a device you unfold and view at close range, but they do not change the basic trade-off: a foldable costs substantially more than a conventional flagship and adds a hinge and flexible display to the ownership equation.

A strong main camera, but not extreme optical zoom
Samsung specifies a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide. TechRadar lists a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That is a versatile rear-camera set, but the 3x telephoto is not long-reach 5x or 10x optical zoom. TechRadar’s review specifically wanted a stronger optical telephoto option, making zoom reach a point to weigh carefully if distant subjects are a regular use case.
A larger battery and faster wired charging
Samsung rates the dual battery at 5,000mAh typical capacity and 4,854mAh rated capacity. Those figures describe capacity, not guaranteed screen-on time. Samsung says the Ultra has a larger battery than the standard Fold8, which it lists at 4,800mAh typical capacity.

In TechRadar’s review, published August 5, 2026, its reviewer reported 12.5 hours in constant, all-day mixed use in bright sunlight and 14 hours in the publication’s lab test. TechRadar said it had used the phone for almost two weeks. These are that reviewer’s results under particular conditions, not a promise of runtime for every user.
Wired charging is rated at 45W. Samsung claims up to 67% charge in around 30 minutes using a 45W adapter and 3A USB-C cable, with the screen and services off under its lab conditions; real results vary. Samsung says the adapter is sold separately. The phone also supports 20W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, with compatibility caveats.

Compare actual local prices and available storage before deciding; the launch-price difference may not match current offers. Samsung’s non-folding S26 Ultra is another price/value reference mentioned by What Hi-Fi?, but the available reviews do not establish a complete head-to-head test or show that it is equivalent to either foldable. TechRadar also names the Motorola Razr Fold 2026; check its local price and specifications before treating it as a direct alternative.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra worth it?
It can make sense if you will regularly use the tablet-sized inner screen, value the higher-resolution main camera and larger battery, and are comfortable paying a substantial premium. The case weakens if your daily use is mostly on the cover screen, if the reported launch pricing is beyond your budget, or if long-range optical zoom is a priority.
- Consider the Ultra if you want Samsung’s larger book-style foldable screen and will use it for multitasking or media, alongside its camera and battery upgrades.
- Compare the standard Fold8 if you want a Samsung foldable at a lower reported launch price or prefer its different screen proportions.

Durability and practical details
Samsung lists IP48 water resistance and cautions that resistance may diminish with wear. It does not advise using the phone at the beach or pool. Water resistance should not be treated as protection against every kind of exposure or as a substitute for careful handling.
