The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Xiaomi 18 Fold take different approaches to foldable size: Samsung has the larger stated inner display, while Xiaomi’s is wider in proportion and its phone has a larger stated battery and a dedicated 3.5× periscope telephoto camera. A straightforward price difference cannot be calculated from the available launch prices: Samsung’s figures are Japanese yen and Xiaomi’s are Chinese yuan, from different markets and dates.
This is a comparison of the launched devices as of October 9, 2026. Samsung styles its product name “Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra” (without a space between “Fold” and “8”); Xiaomi’s name is “Xiaomi 18 Fold.” Specifications below are manufacturer specifications or launch-report figures, not independently tested performance.

How do the displays and form factors compare?
| Specification | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Xiaomi 18 Fold |
|---|---|---|
| Cover display | 6.5 inches (Samsung US) | 5.38 inches (Xiaomi Community and launch coverage) |
| Main display | 8.0 inches (Samsung launch release) | 7.58 inches (Xiaomi Community and launch coverage) |
| Main-screen aspect ratio | Not stated for the Ultra. Samsung’s 4:3 figure refers to the separate Galaxy Z Fold8, so it should not be applied to the Ultra. | 2:1 (Xiaomi Community) |
| Inner-display resolution and refresh rate | Not stated in the cited materials | 2364 × 1672; 120 Hz (Cinco Días launch coverage) |
On the stated diagonal measurements, Samsung’s screens are larger. Xiaomi’s 2:1 inner-screen ratio describes a shorter, wider shape than a tall phone display; that may suit side-by-side content, but screen size and ratio alone do not establish which interface or multitasking experience is better. Samsung’s 4:3 claim belongs to another model, not this Ultra.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesXiaomi Community says both screens can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits under a 30% APL condition. That is a conditional peak specification, not a claim of sustained brightness in everyday use. No equivalent brightness figure for the Samsung Ultra is established here.

What are the cameras, battery and charging specifications?
| Specification | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Xiaomi 18 Fold |
|---|---|---|
| Main camera | 200 MP, with HDR support at 200 MP (Samsung launch release) | 200 MP, Leica-branded (Xiaomi launch coverage) |
| Ultra-wide camera | 50 MP | 50 MP, Leica-branded |
| Telephoto camera | A telephoto specification is not established in the cited materials. | 50 MP Leica-branded periscope telephoto, with 3.5× optical magnification reported in launch coverage |
| Battery capacity | 5,000 mAh typical; Samsung lists 4,854 mAh rated capacity | 6,000 mAh |
| Wired charging | 45 W fast charging (Samsung launch release) | 67 W (launch coverage) |
| Wireless charging | Samsung US mentions compatible wireless chargers, but the cited materials do not establish a charging wattage. | 50 W (launch coverage) |
The camera specifications suggest different hardware emphasis: Xiaomi’s reported rear setup includes a dedicated periscope telephoto, while Samsung’s cited launch specifications identify the main and ultra-wide cameras. Megapixels and lens descriptions do not establish comparative image quality, low-light performance, or zoom results; no independent camera test is available here.
The battery capacities and charging wattages are specifications, not measured battery life or charging times. Real-world endurance and charging can depend on usage and conditions, and no independent comparative test establishes which phone lasts longer or charges faster in practice.
How do weight, durability and other hardware details differ?
Samsung lists the Fold8 Ultra at 215 g and 4.1 mm thick when unfolded. The cited Xiaomi launch materials do not give a comparable weight or unfolded thickness, and neither phone’s folded dimensions are established here. That means the available figures do not support a complete portability comparison.

Samsung US specifies Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, an IP48 rating, and no S Pen support. It also describes an Armor Aluminum frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the front, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and titanium layers beneath the display. These are Samsung’s product descriptions, not independent drop, water-resistance, or durability test results.
Xiaomi launch coverage identifies the XRING O3 processor. A directly comparable independent performance test is not established, so processor names alone do not show which device is faster. The cited Xiaomi materials do not establish a comparable water-resistance rating or stylus-support specification.

The prices below refer to different currencies, markets, and dates. The Japanese amounts are yen (JPY); the China amounts are yuan (CNY). They are launch or retail snapshots, not same-market prices for matching configurations.

Samsung says other retailers may set different prices. The Xiaomi figures are China launch prices reported by IT Home and Cinco Días; they do not establish a price in another country. Although both currencies use the ¥ symbol, Japanese yen and Chinese yuan are not interchangeable. Subtracting the listed amounts—or converting them and presenting the result as a global price gap—would not be a like-for-like comparison. For a useful local comparison, check current prices in the same market for equivalent storage, with taxes and the purchase date accounted for.

Samsung announced sales beginning August 7, 2026, with rollout across 106 markets. Samsung notes that colors, models, connectivity and availability can vary by market. Its Japanese prices above are specific to Samsung Japan’s July 22 announcement.
Xiaomi’s launch reporting places the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s China launch on September 7, 2026, with first sales scheduled for September 10. The cited materials do not establish global Xiaomi retail availability, local warranty coverage, supported network bands outside China, or after-sales service in other markets. Buyers considering a China-market device outside China should confirm the exact model’s bands, software, warranty, returns policy and local support with the seller before purchasing.
Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Samsung if the 6.5-inch cover screen, 8.0-inch main screen, 215 g listed weight, Samsung’s stated hardware details, or its availability in your market are priorities. Check local pricing and the exact regional model.
- Consider the Xiaomi if its shorter, wider 2:1 inner-screen format, reported 3.5× periscope telephoto, larger stated battery, or listed charging specifications fit your needs—and you can verify local compatibility and support.
- Wait for same-market evidence if your decision depends on actual battery life, camera quality, sustained performance, durability, or value at a local price. The cited specifications and region-specific prices cannot settle those comparisons.
