Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if the largest available workspace and a dedicated telephoto camera matter more than carrying weight or price. Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want a lighter phone with a more compact closed shape and can live without those Ultra-specific hardware advantages. Samsung’s current US and UK comparison pages identify the products as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8. Names, storage combinations, specifications and availability can vary by country, so confirm the local listing before ordering.
What the names mean in this comparison
The shortened names in the headline refer to Samsung’s 2026 models: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8. Samsung UK’s comparison page was updated on 25 August 2026, while Samsung US publishes separate comparison and product pages. The two phones share the same listed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, memory choices and storage tiers, but they differ in screen dimensions, rear-camera hardware, weight, typical battery capacity and US starting price.

Samsung says model specifications may vary by country. A UK or other regional configuration may therefore use different model codes, memory or storage combinations, colors, network support, pricing or promotional terms than the US products discussed below. Treat the figures as the manufacturer’s published specifications rather than independent measurements or test results.

Screen and form-factor differences
The Ultra’s larger inner screen
Unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2504 × 2256 resolution. The Galaxy Z Fold8 uses a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel at 2448 × 1848. The 0.4-inch diagonal difference is not a performance benchmark, but it does give the Ultra more physical display area for the activities that benefit from a tablet-like canvas.
- Reading: Long articles, PDFs and books can occupy a larger page area on the Ultra, potentially reducing how often you scroll or zoom. The specification establishes the larger panel; it does not measure reading speed or comfort.
- Multitasking: Split-screen apps, a document beside a browser and other multi-window layouts have more room on the Ultra. Whether a particular app uses that space well depends on the app and its software layout.
- Video and photos: The Ultra presents a larger unfolded viewing surface. The two resolutions and aspect ratios differ, so content will not necessarily fill either panel identically.
The Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner screen is still substantially larger than a conventional phone display. Select it when the foldable workspace is important but the absolute maximum panel size is not worth paying for or carrying the larger model.

Cover displays when the phone is closed
The Ultra’s cover display measures 6.5 inches and has a 2520 × 1080 resolution. The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display at 1972 × 1248 and a listed 16:10 aspect ratio. The Ultra therefore offers a larger closed-screen canvas, while the Fold8 retains the compact closed shape Samsung highlights in its model comparison.
This is a practical choice rather than a simple “larger is better” decision. If you routinely answer messages, check maps, authenticate payments or read notifications without opening the phone, the Ultra’s 6.5-inch panel gives those tasks more room. If you prefer a narrower, smaller-feeling closed phone for quick interactions, the Fold8’s 5.5-inch display and 16:10 format may be the better match. Samsung’s specifications do not measure one-handed reach, pocket comfort or typing accuracy, so those remain personal factors to assess in a shop.

Weight and Samsung’s design claims
Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at 215 g and the Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 g. That makes the Fold8 14 g lighter on the manufacturer’s specification sheet. The difference is meaningful when deciding what you are willing to carry, but it is not an independently tested comfort result.
Samsung UK describes the Ultra as “our thinnest Galaxy Z Fold ever” and the Fold8 as “the lightest Z Fold ever.” Those are Samsung’s own product descriptions, not independent rankings. The listed weights support the specific 14 g difference between these two models; the material provided here does not give independent thickness measurements or a laboratory comparison of handling.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra cameras
The Ultra lists a 200 MP wide camera, a 50 MP ultrawide camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom. That is a three-camera rear system with a dedicated lens for optical magnification.
Galaxy Z Fold8 cameras
The Fold8 lists a 50 MP wide camera and a 50 MP ultrawide camera. Samsung US describes 10× digital zoom for this model, but the specification does not list a separate telephoto lens.
These are hardware differences, not proof that every Ultra photograph will be better. Megapixel counts do not establish dynamic range, autofocus reliability, low-light performance, color rendering or video quality, and lens count does not predict results in every scene. No independent camera test or comparative image assessment is established in the available material.

Choose the Ultra’s camera system when a dedicated telephoto lens and 3× optical zoom are important to your subjects—such as distant details, portraits framed from farther away or travel scenes where changing position is inconvenient. Choose the Fold8 if you mainly need wide and ultrawide viewpoints and do not want to pay for hardware whose photographic benefits you may not use. In either case, verify the camera behavior and software features for your region before purchase.
Performance, memory and storage are shared choices
Same listed processor
Both phones use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the supplied specifications. Because the listed processor is the same, the Ultra should not be described as inherently faster. No benchmark, sustained-load test, thermal test or gaming comparison was provided.
Memory configurations
Samsung lists 12 GB and 16 GB memory options for both models. More memory can be relevant if you keep many demanding apps open, edit large files or expect to keep a phone for several years, but the specification alone does not show how either configuration behaves in a particular workload. Match the memory tier to the configuration actually sold in your market rather than assuming that the Ultra automatically includes more.
Storage configurations
Both models are listed with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options. A buyer choosing between them can therefore decide storage independently of the Ultra-versus-Fold8 choice. Consider the space used by downloaded video, high-resolution photos, games, offline maps and work files, and check the exact capacity and price on your regional product page.
Battery capacity is not a runtime verdict
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a listed typical capacity of 5,000 mAh; the Fold8 lists 4,800 mAh. The 200 mAh difference favors the Ultra on paper. Samsung’s typical-capacity figures do not establish screen-on time, charging duration, standby endurance or comparative battery life.

Actual endurance will depend on brightness, mobile-network conditions, refresh behavior, camera use, gaming, background synchronization, temperature and software. Do not select the Ultra solely because its capacity is higher, and do not assume the Fold8 will last a specific number of hours. If battery life is your deciding factor, look for an independent test of the exact regional models after launch and compare the test conditions with your own use.
Productivity and S Pen considerations
Samsung’s support guide frames a central buyer question as “Which Galaxy Z Fold model is best for productivity?” For these two models, the answer depends first on workspace and portability. The Ultra’s 8-inch inner display and 6.5-inch cover display provide the larger canvases; the Fold8’s 7.6-inch inner display and 5.5-inch cover display keep the device smaller and lighter according to the listed specifications.
Neither model supports the S Pen. If handwritten notes, pressure-sensitive drawing or a stylus-specific workflow is a requirement, that limitation rules out both phones regardless of screen size, camera hardware or storage. Do not buy an S Pen expecting it to work with either current model.
A practical productivity decision
- Choose the Ultra for screen-led work: You regularly read lengthy documents, compare information in split-screen windows, review spreadsheets or use the inner display as your primary work surface, and the extra 0.4 inch matters more to you than 14 g of weight and the higher listed US price.
- Choose the Fold8 for portability-led work: You still want an unfolded 7.6-inch workspace but spend much of the day using the phone closed, where the 201 g weight and 5.5-inch cover display fit your preferences better.
- Choose neither for stylus-led work: Neither phone supports the S Pen, so a compatible device should be part of your search instead.
Price and value: is the Ultra worth $200 more?
Samsung’s US product pages showed a starting price of $2,099.99 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and $1,899.99 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 when accessed on 13 October 2026. That is a $200 difference at the advertised starting points. Prices are time-sensitive and may depend on storage, trade-in credits, launch promotions, taxes, carrier financing or seller terms.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The Ultra is easier to justify when you will use its larger inner and cover displays and its dedicated 3× optical telephoto camera throughout the phone’s ownership. Those are concrete hardware differences that the Fold8 does not list. The Fold8 is the value choice when its 7.6-inch inner display is sufficient, the 5.5-inch closed format suits you and the lighter 201 g body matters more than the Ultra’s additional camera and screen hardware.
Best Value
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Do not pay the premium for assumed speed: both phones list the same processor and memory options. Do not pay it for guaranteed endurance: the capacity difference is a specification, not a runtime test. Before checkout, compare the same storage tier, confirm whether a promotion requires a trade-in and check the final regional price.
Which foldable fits your needs?
Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra when these priorities dominate
- You want the largest unfolded display in this pair: 8 inches at 2504 × 2256.
- You often use the phone closed and prefer the larger 6.5-inch, 2520 × 1080 cover display.
- You need a dedicated rear telephoto lens and 3× optical zoom.
- The 215 g listed weight is acceptable.
- You are comfortable with the higher US starting price shown by Samsung, subject to current offers.
Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 when these priorities dominate
- You want the lighter listed device at 201 g.
- You prefer the compact closed shape and 5.5-inch cover display with its 16:10 aspect ratio.
- The 7.6-inch, 2448 × 1848 inner display meets your reading and multitasking needs.
- Wide and ultrawide cameras are sufficient and a dedicated telephoto lens is not a priority.
- You want to save the $200 shown between Samsung’s US starting prices, before any promotion or trade-in adjustment.
Do not use these assumptions to decide
- Do not assume the Ultra is faster because it costs more; the listed processor is shared.
- Do not assume 5,000 mAh guarantees longer battery life than 4,800 mAh; no comparative runtime result is established.
- Do not treat 200 MP versus 50 MP as a measured photo-quality ranking.
- Do not assume either phone works with the S Pen; Samsung lists no support for both.
A buying checklist for different countries
- Identify the exact model: Confirm that the listing says Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold8, not an earlier Fold generation or a similarly named regional product.
- Check the country-specific specification page: Samsung states that model specifications may vary by country. Verify processor branding, camera details, memory, storage, network compatibility and included accessories locally.
- Match storage before comparing prices: Compare 256 GB with 256 GB, 512 GB with 512 GB or 1 TB with 1 TB. A lower starting price can represent a different capacity.
- Confirm the display you will use most: If the phone stays open for documents and multitasking, compare the 8-inch and 7.6-inch inner panels. If it stays closed for quick tasks, compare the 6.5-inch and 5.5-inch cover displays.
- Decide whether optical telephoto hardware matters: The Ultra lists a 10 MP telephoto with 3× optical zoom; the Fold8 lists wide and ultrawide cameras and Samsung US describes 10× digital zoom.
- Verify current price and promotion terms: Recheck Samsung and authorized retailers immediately before buying. The $2,099.99 and $1,899.99 US figures are advertised starting prices accessed on 13 October 2026, not permanent worldwide prices.
- Check stylus requirements: If S Pen input is essential, remove both models from your shortlist because neither supports it.
- Confirm accessory compatibility: For a case or screen protector, require the accessory listing to name the exact model. A Fold8 accessory should not be assumed to fit the Fold8 Ultra.
What the published specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The official material establishes the listed screen sizes and resolutions, weight, camera components, typical capacities, processor, memory, storage and advertised US starting prices. It does not provide an independent ranking of durability, hinge reliability, repair frequency, customer satisfaction, camera image quality, battery runtime, charging speed or sustained performance.
That distinction matters when a specification looks persuasive. A larger display tells you the panel is larger, not that every app will be better arranged. A 200 MP sensor tells you the stated resolution, not the final quality of a compressed social-media photo. A 5,000 mAh typical capacity tells you the battery rating, not how long your particular network, brightness and app mix will last. Use the specifications to narrow the choice, then seek independent testing of the exact model and region if one of those outcomes is your deciding factor.
Bottom line for the two buyers
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the specialist choice for maximum foldable workspace and more versatile rear-camera hardware. Its 8-inch inner screen, 6.5-inch cover screen, 200 MP wide camera, 3× optical telephoto and 5,000 mAh typical capacity come with a 215 g listed weight and the higher advertised US starting price.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the balanced choice for buyers who value a lighter 201 g phone and a compact closed format while retaining a 7.6-inch foldable display, the same listed processor and the same memory and storage ranges. Its 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultrawide system omits the Ultra’s dedicated telephoto, and neither model supports the S Pen. Recheck your country’s current specifications, price and stock before placing the order.
