The Galaxy Z Fold6 keeps one feature the Ultra does not list: S Pen support. On US list prices for the 256 GB unlocked model, the Fold8 Ultra costs $200 more: $2,099.99 against $1,899.99 for the Fold6. That gap is a list-price snapshot, not a clean street-price comparison. Samsung’s December 2025 US price list marks the Fold6 as end of life, and Samsung’s Fold8 Ultra product page showed a $250 discount on the 256 GB model, bringing it to $1,849.99, when it was checked on October 7, 2026.
Specifications at a glance
Every figure below comes from Samsung’s own product material: the Galaxy Z Fold8 series specification announcement of July 22, 2026, the Samsung Global Newsroom launch release of August 6, 2026, and Samsung UK’s comparison page, updated August 25, 2026. These are manufacturer specifications. They have not been checked against independent lab measurements.

Screens
The Ultra’s inner display is 8.0 inches on the diagonal, against 7.6 inches on the Fold6, and its cover screen is 6.5 inches against 6.3 inches. Samsung’s measurements are diagonal figures. The usable image area depends on the rounded corners and the crease, so the difference you see in hand will be smaller than the raw numbers suggest. The Ultra’s adaptive 1–120 Hz range can drop to lower refresh rates to save power, while the Fold6 stays in its fixed 120 Hz range.

Size and weight
The Ultra is wider and taller when folded but considerably thinner, and it weighs less. A thinner, lighter folded body is usually easier to carry in a pocket, but whether it feels better in your hand depends on your grip and whether you prefer a wider, shorter shape. Dimensions alone cannot settle that.
Cameras
The most visible hardware change is the main camera. The Ultra’s 200 MP wide sensor replaces the Fold6’s 50 MP wide sensor, and the ultra-wide moves up to 50 MP from 12 MP. The telephoto stays at 10 MP on both. Megapixel count does not decide image quality. Sensor size, pixel binning, lens and processing matter as much, and Samsung’s listing does not describe those details in a way that allows a direct quality comparison.

Chip and battery
The Ultra moves to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, which is a newer generation than the Fold6’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Samsung’s table does not include benchmark results, so a newer chip name does not by itself mean faster everyday performance. The Ultra’s typical battery capacity is 5,000 mAh, compared with 4,400 mAh for the Fold6. Samsung’s spec page lists 4,854 mAh as the rated figure for the Ultra and says actual battery life depends on network conditions, usage and other factors. Converting capacity into hours of use requires a test that is not part of Samsung’s published material.
S Pen
The Fold6 supports the S Pen, and Samsung’s official comparison table lists no S Pen support for the Fold8 Ultra. If you write, sketch or annotate with a stylus, that is the most important functional difference between the two phones, and the Ultra is not a straightforward stylus upgrade.

Build and water resistance
Samsung’s UK support page, updated August 25, 2026, states: “Beginning with the Galaxy Z Fold6, Samsung introduced IP48 water resistance, helping protect the device against fresh water immersion.” That wording covers fresh-water immersion. It does not make either phone dustproof or protected against every liquid. For the Fold8 Ultra, Samsung describes an Advanced Armor Aluminium frame 2, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 and a reworked hinge and edge design. These are design descriptions, not comparative durability results, so they do not show that the Ultra will last longer or fail less often than the Fold6.

Why the $200 figure is a snapshot
The two prices come from different Samsung sources with different dates. The Fold6 figure is from a December 2025 list that Samsung says is subject to change without notice. The Fold8 Ultra figure is from a live page checked in October 2026. Samsung also says prices and promotions may change, and the country-specific list does not apply outside the United States.

Promotions and end-of-life status
A time-limited discount on the Fold8 Ultra can narrow or reverse the gap, but a promotion is not a stable price. At the October 7, 2026 check, the 256 GB Ultra’s $1,849.99 was $50 below the Fold6’s December 2025 list price. That comparison mixes dates and sources, so it should not be read as proof that the Ultra is cheaper. The Fold6 is marked end of life on Samsung’s list, and this article did not establish its current used, refurbished or remaining new-stock price. Carrier credits, trade-in offers and local taxes can also change what you pay.

Availability and launch timing
Samsung says Fold8 Ultra sales began on August 7, 2026 in select markets, and that the phone will expand to more markets. It is sold through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores. Samsung notes that availability varies by market, carrier and retailer, so check the model and storage you want in your own country before comparing prices. Samsung also reported that pre-orders for its new Galaxy Z lineup rose more than 30% over the previous generation. That is a company-reported comparison and not independent sales data.
Samsung’s launch release also describes Samsung Care+ protection, accidental-damage repairs and extended warranty coverage for the new lineup. Pricing and plan eligibility for the Ultra were not established in the sources used here, so confirm them with Samsung or your carrier before factoring protection into the cost.
Which phone fits which buyer
- The Fold8 Ultra suits buyers who want the larger inner and cover screens, a lighter and thinner folded body, a newer processor, a higher typical battery capacity, and the higher-resolution main camera. This is an inference from Samsung’s specifications.
- The Fold6 suits buyers who use an S Pen, owners who are satisfied with the current screen size and camera system, and shoppers who find a substantially lower price from a reputable seller for the same storage size.
- Either phone should be compared on local price, storage, carrier compatibility, warranty and return terms before you buy.
What this comparison cannot tell you
The sources used here do not include independent hands-on tests of camera quality, real-world battery endurance, gaming or multitasking performance, or long-term durability. They also do not provide repair rates or user satisfaction data. If those matter most to you, look for independent reviews of the Fold8 Ultra published after its August 2026 launch, and compare them with your own use before deciding.
