The Galaxy Z Fold4 is worth considering if you will regularly use its 7.6-inch inner display for reading, document work, video or multitasking. It pairs that tablet-like screen with a 6.2-inch cover display and flagship-class hardware, but at 263g it is heavier and thicker than a conventional phone. Its cameras are versatile, while battery life and long-term durability depend on how you use and care for it.
What the Galaxy Z Fold4 offers
Samsung’s 2022 Galaxy Z Fold4 opens into a 7.6-inch inner display and folds around a 6.2-inch cover display. Both support adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. That combination makes it possible to use a phone-sized screen when closed and a more spacious canvas for reading, editing documents, watching video or running apps side by side when open. Samsung highlights Flex Mode, hands-free video and Multi-Active Windows as part of the experience.

The hardware includes a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and 12GB of RAM. Samsung listed 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage configurations. These are launch-era specifications; availability of particular configurations depends on the market and seller.

Where the inner display helps
The Fold4’s strongest reason to exist is its inner screen. More room is useful when you want to keep a document and another app visible, read without constantly scrolling, or watch video on a larger-than-usual phone display. Flex Mode can also prop the phone at an angle for hands-free viewing. If those tasks are routine, the Fold4 offers a kind of flexibility a regular slab phone cannot provide.

- Expansive foldable 7.6″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, offering a tablet-like canvas for multitasking, split-screen productivity, and immersive media — while folding down to a compact form for easy portability.
What you give up when it is folded
The phone weighs 263g and measures up to 15.8mm thick when folded. That extra bulk affects pocket comfort and makes one-handed use less convenient than with a typical flagship phone. The cover screen is usable for quick tasks, but the Fold4 is not the right choice if a light, slim handset is your priority.
How good are the cameras?
The rear camera system is more versatile than a basic wide-and-ultrawide setup: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. For selfies, there is a 10MP camera on the cover display and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen.
Those specifications cover a useful range of perspectives, including a stabilized telephoto option. They do not, by themselves, establish how the Fold4’s photos compare with every conventional flagship. If camera ranking is your deciding factor, look for direct image-quality comparisons rather than relying on megapixel counts alone.

How long does the battery last?
The Fold4 has a rated 4,400mAh battery and supports Super Fast Charging, wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare. That capacity does not translate into a guaranteed number of hours or a fixed screen-on time. Endurance varies with factors such as whether you use the inner or cover display, screen brightness, cellular conditions, camera use and gaming load.
For frequent heavy use of the large inner screen, plan around your own charging habits rather than assuming the phone will last a set period. Samsung’s listed charging features describe supported options, not a specific real-world battery-life result.
Is the Fold4 durable, and is it water-resistant?
Samsung lists IPX8 water resistance, Gorilla Glass Victus+ and an Armor Aluminum frame. IPX8 is a water-resistance rating; the “X” does not establish dust resistance. The phone also has a hinge and flexible inner display, so the rating should not be treated as proof that it is as mechanically simple or carefree as a conventional phone.

Samsung product-page review summaries include customer reports of screens cracking, peeling or malfunctioning, as well as concerns about overheating and battery life. These are individual owner reports, not a measured failure rate, so they cannot tell you how likely a particular device is to fail. They are a reason to consider the greater repair and care exposure that comes with a foldable.
If you add protection, check that a case or screen protector explicitly fits the Galaxy Z Fold4 and does not interfere with the hinge or folding display. A protector intended for another phone—or an unsuitable inner-screen film—may not be compatible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Galaxy Z Fold4 come with an S Pen?
The Fold4 supports the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro, which can add a stylus workflow for writing or marking up content on the large display. Treat the pen as a separate purchase unless the specific retail bundle you are considering explicitly includes one; the official specification sheet does not establish that every box contains a pen. Check the bundle contents and pen compatibility before buying.
Fold4 or a conventional flagship phone?
| What matters most | Galaxy Z Fold4 | Conventional flagship phone |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and multitasking | The 7.6-inch inner display gives apps and documents more room, with support for split-screen use. | A conventional phone does not unfold into a tablet-like screen. |
| Pocketability and one-handed use | At 263g and up to 15.8mm thick folded, it is heavier and thicker than a typical flagship. | Usually the better fit if low weight, slimness and easy one-handed handling are priorities. |
| Camera choice | 50MP stabilized wide, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP stabilized 3x telephoto hardware. | Camera quality varies by model; the available Fold4 specifications do not establish a universal winner. |
| Durability concerns | IPX8 water resistance, Victus+ glass and an aluminum frame, but no established dust-resistance rating and a folding hinge and display. | A simpler non-folding design may suit buyers who want to avoid foldable-specific care and repair exposure. |
| Stylus workflow | Compatible with S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro; check whether a bundle includes a pen. | Stylus support depends on the particular phone model. |
| Total cost | Include any separately purchased pen or compatible protection in your decision. | Accessories and total cost depend on the model and bundle. |
Verdict: who should buy the Galaxy Z Fold4?
The Fold4 makes the most sense for someone who will use the inner screen often enough to justify carrying a heavier, thicker phone. It combines a large, fast display with strong core specifications, flexible multitasking and a useful multi-camera setup. If you mainly want a compact everyday handset, prioritize dust protection, or prefer the simplest long-term ownership, a conventional flagship is likely the more practical choice.
