What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Short answer: In the current U.S. examples, a Galaxy Z Fold starts with a higher listed price and has a more expensive cited inner-screen repair than a Galaxy S Ultra. That does not prove that every Fold costs more over its lifetime. Your result depends on the exact generation, storage tier, discount, trade-in or sale channel, repair events, protection-plan terms, time held, and final condition.
Use this framework for an apples-to-apples comparison: total ownership cost = purchase price − resale proceeds + repairs + protection-plan costs. Keep a purchase-linked trade-in credit separate from the money you could obtain by selling the phone independently.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
A Fold and an S Ultra are not single, permanently priced products. Samsung changes models, storage options, promotions, trade-in eligibility and service prices. Country, purchase date and ownership period can change the answer as much as the product family can.

The concrete figures below use U.S. information available for March 2026: Galaxy Z Fold7 list prices from Samsung Business US, and Samsung’s U.S. repair table comparing a Fold7 inner-screen repair with a Galaxy S25 Ultra screen repair. If you are comparing another generation or country, refresh both phones’ prices and service quotes before calculating.

The available official material does not establish a controlled, same-age depreciation rate or a comparative failure rate for Fold and S Ultra devices. A more expensive repair is a cost conditional on that repair happening; it is not evidence that the repair happens more often.
The ownership-cost formula
Record every cash flow rather than relying on a launch-price comparison. For each phone, calculate:
Total ownership cost = amount paid at purchase − money received when you exit + repair spending + protection-plan spending.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Amount paid at purchase: use the actual checkout total after discounts, but document whether a trade-in credit required buying another Samsung device.
- Exit proceeds: record private-sale cash, a standalone trade-in offer, or a purchase-linked credit separately. They are different transactions.
- Repairs: include only completed repairs or a clearly documented allowance for a repair you expect; do not turn a price list into a predicted failure rate.
- Protection: include premiums and deductibles that apply in your country and plan. If you self-insure, record the money you set aside instead.
Divide the result by the number of months you actually keep the device if you want a monthly ownership figure. A high monthly number during a short hold can be less informative than a lower figure over a longer replacement cycle, so state the holding period beside any conclusion.
Current U.S. purchase prices: the Fold7 baseline
Samsung Business US’s HHP MSRP price list, effective March 2026, gives the following unlocked Galaxy Z Fold7 list prices. Samsung says prices can change without notice, and these are MSRPs rather than guaranteed street prices.
| Device | Storage | Unlocked U.S. MSRP | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | 256GB | $1,999.99 | List price before any promotion, discount or trade-in credit |
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | 512GB | $2,119.99 | List price before any promotion, discount or trade-in credit |
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | 1TB | $2,419.99 | List price before any promotion, discount or trade-in credit |
A matching S Ultra MSRP is not supplied for this comparison, so do not invent one or compare a Fold list price with an Ultra sale price. Obtain the S Ultra’s price for the same purchase date, storage tier, sales channel and condition. If one phone was bought during a launch promotion and the other at full MSRP, label that difference instead of treating it as a design advantage.

List price is not the same as cash paid
Write down the advertised price, the discount, taxes, activation costs and any required trade-in. A $500 purchase-linked credit can make the checkout price look similar to another phone’s MSRP, but it may disappear if the qualifying purchase, model eligibility or condition requirement is not met. The credit also does not tell you what the old phone would have fetched in a private sale.
Repair exposure: what the cited prices actually measure
Samsung’s U.S. repair table lists a Galaxy Z Fold7 inner-screen repair at $449 and a Galaxy S25 Ultra screen repair at $279. The table distinguishes a screen repair from a screen-module replacement. Prices can vary by region or authorized service location and exclude tax and other fees.
| Repair example | Published U.S. price | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold7 inner-screen repair | $449 | Suggested price in Samsung’s U.S. table; region, service location, tax and fees can change the invoice |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra screen repair | $279 | Suggested price in the same type of U.S. table; it is a different model and repair category |
| Galaxy Z Fold6 first interior-screen repair | $200 promotional price | Samsung labels this as a promotion, not the ordinary ongoing price |
| Galaxy Z Fold6 subsequent interior-screen repairs | $549 out-of-warranty price | Applies after the promotional first repair in the cited table; confirm current terms before relying on it |
The Fold7 and S25 Ultra figures are useful for budgeting a possible event, not for predicting how likely that event is. They also do not cover every failure: outer displays, cameras, batteries, charging ports, hinges, water damage, labor categories and module replacements may have separate prices or eligibility rules.
Why screen type matters
A Fold has an inner flexible display and an outer cover display. Ask the service center which part the quote covers. A quote for the inner screen cannot be substituted for an outer-screen quote, and a screen-only repair cannot automatically be treated as a full display-module replacement. Request an itemized estimate before authorizing work.
How to budget a repair without inventing a failure rate
- Identify the exact model number and region of the phone.
- Check Samsung’s current repair table for the named component and service type.
- Ask an authorized location whether the listed price includes labor, parts and diagnostics.
- Add applicable tax, shipping or other fees to your worksheet.
- Record whether the repair is in warranty, covered by a protection plan, or out of warranty.
If you assign a repair reserve, present it as your own planning assumption. For example, reserving the full listed inner-screen price means you are prepared for one such event; it does not mean one event is expected.
Resale value: three different numbers people call trade-in
Private-sale proceeds
A private buyer may pay more than a trade-in program, but you take on listing, communication, payment, shipping and return risk. Photograph the exact phone, disclose screen or hinge damage, remove your accounts, and keep proof of the sale. The amount you actually receive—not an advertised asking price—is the resale figure in your formula.

Samsung purchase-linked instant credit
Samsung describes instant credit as conditional on a qualifying purchase and device eligibility. The credit can change with the promotion, model, storage, condition and timing. Treat it as a discount attached to a new purchase, not as a guaranteed cash value for a phone you already own.
Standalone trade-in through Likewize
Samsung also describes a separate standalone program operated independently by Likewize. Its valuation is based on model and condition. Because it is a different program from purchase-linked instant credit, do not copy one program’s amount into the other column of your worksheet.
Business-account offers
Samsung Business bulk trade-in values are for eligible business accounts. They should not be blended with consumer resale proceeds unless you qualify for that account and offer. Keep the account type, date and eligibility conditions beside the quoted amount.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Condition and data that affect acceptance
Before comparing offers, standardize the phone’s state: it should power on, be free of activation or carrier locks where required, have accounts removed, and match the declared storage and model. Cracked glass, dead pixels, hinge problems, missing components, liquid damage and heavy cosmetic wear can change an offer or cause a rejection. Save the inspection result and final payout, not just the initial estimate.
Does a Fold hold its value better than an S Ultra?
There is no reliable answer that applies to every generation. The reviewed official sources do not provide an independent, controlled Fold-versus-S Ultra depreciation statistic. A Fold may attract buyers who value a large folding screen, while an Ultra may have a broader used-phone audience; those are plausible market dynamics, not measured conclusions.
Compare like with like: same launch generation, storage capacity, network status, condition, region, sale date and remaining warranty. A two-year-old 512GB Fold sold privately is not comparable with a one-year-old 256GB Ultra traded in during a launch promotion. Capture at least two exit channels when possible, then identify which one you would realistically use.

| Exit channel | What it measures | Main uncertainty |
|---|---|---|
| Private sale | Cash from an individual buyer | Time, fees, fraud, shipping and condition disputes |
| Purchase-linked instant credit | Discount applied to a qualifying new purchase | Promotion, eligibility and required purchase can change |
| Standalone trade-in | Offer for the device without necessarily buying another phone | Program rules, inspection and model-condition valuation |
| Business bulk trade-in | Offer available to eligible business accounts | Account qualification and business-specific terms |
Report the observed proceeds with a date and channel. Avoid statements such as a Fold always depreciates faster or an Ultra always retains more value unless you have comparable evidence for the specific models and market.

Samsung says its Warranty and care tools can show estimated repair costs alongside Samsung Care+ costs. Care+ coverage, service type, promotions and deductibles vary by country or region. The tool is therefore useful for a current quote, but a price seen in one market should not be exported to another.
Collect the numbers that matter
- Recurring premium and the length of coverage.
- Deductible for accidental damage, screen damage, loss or theft, if those events are covered.
- Number of claims allowed and whether replacement, repair or refurbished equipment is supplied.
- Enrollment deadline, proof-of-purchase requirement and exclusions.
- Whether the plan follows the device, the purchaser or a specific account.
Compare the plan’s total premiums plus likely deductible with the repair exposure you are willing to carry. If the current premium or deductible is not stated for your country, mark it as unavailable rather than filling the cell with a U.S. number from another plan.
When self-insurance can be rational
Self-insurance means keeping an emergency reserve and accepting the risk yourself. It may fit an owner who can replace a phone immediately and rarely damages devices. It exposes you to the full repair or replacement bill, so the reserve should reflect the most expensive realistic event you can document, not merely the cheaper screen example.

The examples below show the arithmetic, not a prediction of resale or failure. They use only the published figures above and leave unknown values as variables.
One-year Fold7 hold with no repair
For a 256GB unlocked Fold7 bought at the cited list price, the pre-resale cost is $1,999.99. If you later sell it privately for an amount you document as R and pay no protection premium, the ownership cost is $1,999.99 − R, before taxes and selling fees. A purchase-linked credit would alter the cash paid at purchase, but it is valid only if its conditions were met.

Fold7 hold with one cited inner-screen repair
If the same phone incurs one $449 inner-screen repair, the purchase-plus-repair subtotal becomes $2,448.99 before tax, fees, protection and resale. Subtract the actual exit proceeds only once. Do not add a second repair unless one actually occurred or you clearly label it as a separate scenario.
S25 Ultra comparison
For an S25 Ultra, use the exact purchase amount from your receipt because the comparison data does not supply an S25 Ultra MSRP. If one $279 screen repair occurs, the arithmetic is actual purchase amount + $279 − actual exit proceeds + protection costs. This lets you compare real checkout prices rather than a Fold MSRP against an assumed Ultra price.
Monthly view
After calculating either phone’s total, divide by months held. If a Fold costs $900 after resale over 18 months, its monthly ownership cost is $50; that is an illustration of the method, not a market result. Keep taxes, fees and protection in the numerator when they apply.

A repeatable comparison worksheet
- Define the pair: write exact model, storage, carrier or unlocked status, country and purchase date.
- Capture checkout: list MSRP, sale discount, tax, activation charges and every conditional credit.
- Set the horizon: choose a holding period such as 12, 24 or 36 months and use the same period for both phones.
- Price protection: obtain the current regional premium, deductible and coverage limits; record unknown items as not stated.
- Record repairs: distinguish inner screen, outer screen, module, battery and other categories. Save invoices and note whether warranty or a plan paid.
- Collect exit offers: obtain a private-sale estimate, a standalone offer and, if you are buying again, the purchase-linked credit. Date each quote.
- Normalize condition: compare devices with the same cosmetic and functional state, unlocked status and storage.
- Calculate: subtract only the proceeds you can realistically obtain, then divide by months if a monthly figure helps.
- Stress-test: run no-repair, one-screen-repair and protection-plan scenarios separately instead of averaging unsupported probabilities.
Your worksheet should show at least three totals for each phone: no repair, one relevant repair, and repair-plus-protection. This reveals whether your verdict changes when one uncertain assumption changes.
Which phone is likely to fit each ownership strategy?
Choose the Ultra when repair-cost predictability dominates
The cited S25 Ultra screen price is lower than the cited Fold7 inner-screen price. If you cannot tolerate a large unexpected display bill and do not want a protection plan, that documented difference is relevant. It still does not establish that an Ultra will need fewer repairs.
Choose the Fold when the form factor creates measurable value for you
If the inner display replaces a tablet or makes work, reading or multitasking substantially more useful, include that benefit in your decision. Then budget for the higher listed Fold purchase prices and the possibility that an inner-screen repair has a larger bill. A feature you use daily can justify a higher ownership cost, but that is a personal value judgment rather than resale evidence.
Choose either based on your exit plan
If you upgrade at every launch, check the promotion and trade-in terms available when you actually buy. If you keep phones for several years, prioritize repair access, battery service, protection terms and a realistic emergency reserve. If you sell privately, condition and buyer demand matter more than a headline trade-in credit.
Common mistakes that distort the result
- Mixing generations: using a Fold6 repair promotion to represent a Fold7’s normal cost.
- Mixing regions: applying a U.S. repair quote or Care+ deductible to another country.
- Calling credit resale: treating a conditional purchase discount as cash you can receive without buying another phone.
- Using asking prices: counting an optimistic listing instead of the completed sale or accepted trade-in payout.
- Comparing storage tiers casually: a 1TB Fold and a 256GB Ultra may have different buyer demand and launch prices.
- Inferring reliability from price: a $449 repair does not mean the phone is more likely to break than one with a $279 repair.
- Ignoring fees: tax, shipping, selling fees, diagnostics and deductibles can materially change a narrow price gap.
- Assuming coverage: warranty, accidental-damage plans and theft coverage have different triggers and exclusions.
Bottom line for a Fold-versus-Ultra purchase
On the documented U.S. figures, the Fold7 requires a larger initial outlay and its cited inner-screen repair costs more than the cited S25 Ultra screen repair. Those facts support a higher repair reserve for the Fold, not a claim that every owner will spend more or that the Fold depreciates faster.
The defensible choice comes from your own worksheet: use the exact generation and market, actual checkout price, current regional protection terms, completed repair costs and a dated exit offer. If those inputs are missing, the honest conclusion is conditional rather than a permanent winner for either phone family.
