One is a foldable with a 7.6-inch inner screen, launched in India at ₹179,999 for its 12GB/256GB version. The other is a conventional phone with a 7,000mAh battery and Hogwarts-themed styling, listed on realme’s India store at ₹62,999. Choose by form factor first. If you want a foldable screen, the Fold8 is the only one of the two that offers it. If you want a standard phone with a large battery and a licensed design at a much lower price, the realme fits that brief. Samsung writes the name as Galaxy Z Fold8, and this article uses that spelling.
Specs at a glance
The table below uses only the figures Samsung and realme publish. Where a spec is not published for one phone in the sources reviewed, the cell says so rather than guessing.

The realme product page describes the Harry Potter Edition’s hardware, but the sources reviewed do not include the standard realme 16 Pro’s full specification sheet. This article therefore cannot confirm whether the edition’s hardware matches the non-edition model. What realme does document as specific to the edition is the themed design, the software elements and the gift box.
Form factor and display: the core difference
Most of the buying decision depends on how each screen is used, so it is worth treating them separately.

Galaxy Z Fold8: a screen that opens
The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover screen with a 10:16 shape for quick interactions when closed, and a 7.6-inch main screen with a 4:3 shape when opened. Samsung’s India launch release describes the phone as designed to move from cover-screen tasks to larger-screen viewing, reading and gaming. Samsung’s newsroom states the point of the wider shape plainly: “When unfolded, the 4:3 main display provides a larger viewing area for games and films while reducing unused screen space for 16:9 content.” That trade-off matters. A 4:3 panel shows more of a 4:3 or square-ish layout, but 16:9 video will still leave some space unused. Samsung also gives the main display a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits and describes a Flex Titanium display structure, both as manufacturer figures.
realme 16 Pro Harry Potter Edition: a conventional screen
The realme uses a single 144Hz AMOLED screen, a standard phone format that fits a pocket without folding. Its high refresh rate suits scrolling and games, though realme’s sources do not give a screen size or brightness figure to compare with the Fold8’s. A conventional screen is also simpler to protect: there is no hinge, and the screen is not a folding panel that needs to be handled with the care a foldable requires.

Battery, charging and runtime
The realme has the larger rated battery, at 7,000mAh against the Fold8’s 4,800mAh typical figure, and it is paired with 80W charging. Samsung does not list a charging wattage for the Fold8 in the India launch release or the Mobile Press page reviewed, so charging speed cannot be compared directly.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCapacity is not the same as runtime. Samsung’s Mobile Press page (5 August 2026) gives an estimate of up to 26 hours of continuous video playback. That figure comes from Samsung’s internal lab conditions: a prerelease device connected to Bluetooth earphones over LTE, playing a locally stored 720p video, with default settings. Samsung warns that real playback varies with network, settings, file format, brightness, battery condition and other factors. realme’s battery and charging figures are also manufacturer specifications, and its product page says lab claims may vary by environment and actual use. The two companies’ test conditions are not published on matching terms, so a fair runtime comparison is not possible from these sources.

Cameras
The realme lists the higher megapixel counts: a 200MP main camera and a 112° wide camera on the back, plus a 50MP selfie camera. The Fold8 has dual 50MP wide and ultra-wide rear cameras. Megapixel count alone does not determine picture quality, which depends on sensor size, processing and lens design. None of the sources reviewed include independent, matched camera tests of these two phones, so this article does not declare a camera winner.
Performance and software
Samsung says the Fold8 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. realme lists the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Max 5G in the Harry Potter Edition. These names identify the announced hardware. They do not show how either phone performs in games, multitasking or everyday use, and no benchmark comparison from an independent source was found for the two exact models.

Neither company’s update commitments for the India models were verified in the sources reviewed, so this article does not state how long either phone will receive software or security updates.

The price difference
The gap between the two phones is ₹117,000, calculated as ₹179,999 minus ₹62,999. The two figures are not the same kind of price, and the gap should be read with that in mind:

- The Fold8 figure is a launch price. It comes from Samsung India’s newsroom release dated 22 July 2026, which also announced that India preorders had opened that day. The release describes launch offers and Samsung Care+ protection as launch-time programme details, not guaranteed terms.
- The realme figure is a store listing. It is the price displayed on realme Store India for the Harry Potter Edition, accessed in 2026. It is not labelled as a launch price, and it may differ at checkout or on other retailers.
| Model and configuration | India price reference | Source and status |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold8, 12GB/256GB | ₹179,999 | Samsung Newsroom India, launch price, 22 July 2026 |
| Galaxy Z Fold8, 12GB/512GB | ₹199,999 | Samsung Newsroom India, launch price, 22 July 2026 |
| Galaxy Z Fold8, 16GB/1TB | ₹239,999 | Samsung Newsroom India, launch price, 22 July 2026 |
| realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition | ₹62,999 | realme Store India listing, accessed 2026 |
Comparing the 256GB Fold8 with the realme edition, the Fold8 costs roughly 2.9 times as much at these reference prices. Third-party comparison pages can show a different Samsung figure from Samsung’s official table, so the newsroom release is the figure to use. Prices in India change, and the current figure should be checked on each product page before buying. These references apply to India only.
Design, special edition and durability
What the Harry Potter Edition adds
The realme’s distinctive value is its licensed styling and packaging. The edition includes a Hogwarts Four-House crest, a Hedwig-inspired camera decoration, Harry Potter-inspired software elements and a limited-edition gift box. These are themed additions to a phone whose hardware is described on the product page. The contents of the gift box are not confirmed as identical across sellers, so buyers should check what their retailer includes. The Fold8 has no comparable licensed design in the Samsung India release.
Colour-changing finish
realme’s product page states: “The color-changing effect may gradually wear off over time with daily use, which is a normal characteristic of the material and does not indicate a product defect.” Buyers who want the themed look should expect that effect to fade with use.
Water resistance and warranty
realme’s page warns that water resistance can lose effectiveness over time and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty. The sources reviewed do not give an independent durability test for either phone, and no folding-screen durability test for the Fold8 was found.
Which phone fits your needs
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if a larger screen is the priority. Its 7.6-inch 4:3 main display is aimed at reading, video, games and multitasking, and it is the only one of the two that folds.
- Choose the realme 16 Pro Harry Potter Edition if you want a conventional handset, the larger 7,000mAh battery and 80W charging, a 144Hz screen, and a licensed design at a much lower displayed price.
- Consider the price gap seriously if you are deciding whether a foldable’s screen format justifies a price roughly 2.9 times higher at the reference prices above.
- Check the storage tier you need. The Fold8 is sold in three configurations, and the realme’s storage options are not stated in the sources reviewed.
What is not established
- No independent side-by-side test of performance, photography, battery endurance or durability for these two exact models was found.
- Software and security update commitments for both models in India were not verified.
- Current Amazon or other retailer prices, stock, sellers, warranty terms and regional variants were not verified. Price references in this article come from Samsung India’s newsroom and realme Store India only.
- realme’s community launch post pointed to a sale date of 21 September 2026. Because that date has passed, the realme store listing is the better reference for current availability.
- Whether the edition’s hardware matches the standard realme 16 Pro cannot be confirmed from the sources reviewed.
Confirm the exact edition, storage tier, warranty, network bands, support period and return policy with the seller before purchase.
