What changed in everyday use?
The Fold6 is lighter and thinner
At 239g, the Fold6 is 14g lighter than the 253g Fold5. It is 12.1mm thick when folded, compared with 13.4mm for the Fold5, and is also thinner when open. The Fold6 is slightly wider in both configurations, however. Those measurements describe the phones, not how comfortable either will feel in a particular hand or pocket.

#1 Best Overall
- The Galaxy Z Fold 6 unfolds to a large 7.6″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen (1–120 Hz) that gives you a truly immersive tablet-like workspace for multitasking, split-screen apps, and high‑resolution media playback.
- On the outside, there’s a 6.3″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display also capable of 120 Hz, making the folded phone highly functional for calls, messages, and quick tasks without needing to open it.
- Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” chipset and backed by 12 GB of RAM, the Fold 6 handles intensive 5G use, advanced multitasking, and AI-enhanced workflows with efficiency and responsiveness.
- The camera system packs a punch with a 50 MP main lens (with OIS), 12 MP ultra-wide lens, and 10 MP 3× telephoto lens, allowing users to shoot stable, high-quality photos whether zooming in or capturing wide scenes.
- Built tough for everyday use, it features a reinforced Armor Aluminum frame, IP48 water and dust resistance, S Pen Fold Edition support, and advanced Galaxy AI features like Note Assist, real-time transcription, and live translation.
The processor advances, but the specification alone does not quantify the speed gain
The Fold6 moves from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy; both are listed as 4nm processors. That establishes a newer chip generation, but Samsung’s comparison table does not provide a quantified speed advantage.
Fold6 adds a 1TB option
Both models have 12GB of memory, but only the Fold6 is listed with a 1TB storage tier. Neither supports external storage, so buyers who keep large files on the phone should check whether the available internal capacity suits their needs. Storage availability can differ by market and sales channel.

Camera hardware and typical battery capacity are unchanged
Samsung lists the same rear-camera resolutions and features, as well as the same front-camera resolutions, on both models. The listed typical battery capacity is 4,400mAh for each. These matching specifications do not prove that photos will look identical in every scene or that the phones will deliver equal runtime: image processing, software, network conditions, use and battery age can affect results.

IP48 adds a dust rating, but does not make the Fold6 dustproof
Samsung lists the Fold5 as IPX8 and the Fold6 as IP48. Samsung’s Fold6 launch guidance describes freshwater laboratory submersion up to 1.5m for up to 30 minutes, advises against beach or pool use, and warns that resistance may diminish with wear. The Fold6’s rating adds dust protection, but it should not be treated as dustproof or as permission to use the phone around sand, pools or seawater.

US list prices: the original $100 difference
| Storage | Galaxy Z Fold5 US unlocked MSRP | Galaxy Z Fold6 US unlocked MSRP | Fold6 difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,799.99 | $1,899.99 | $100 |
| 512GB | $1,919.99 | $2,019.99 | $100 |
These are Samsung US unlocked list prices from its October 2024 MSRP sheet, not current October 2026 street prices. The sheet does not establish today’s retailer discounts, used or refurbished prices, carrier offers or trade-in values. Compare current offers for the exact storage tier, and factor in condition and warranty before deciding which is better value.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Fold6 if its refinements match your priorities
- You want a lighter phone that is thinner when folded.
- You prefer its slightly larger cover display.
- You need the listed 1TB storage option.
- You value the newer processor generation or the added dust-resistance rating.
Consider the Fold5 if its current price makes more sense
The Fold5 has the same listed main-screen diagonal, camera hardware, typical battery capacity, S Pen support and DeX support. If those are your main requirements, compare the actual price and condition of each device rather than treating the Fold6’s original MSRP premium as a current price difference.
If you already own a Fold5
Samsung’s specifications support viewing the Fold6 as a measured refinement, not a clear camera, battery-capacity or main-screen-size upgrade. Whether the lighter build, cover-screen changes, newer processor, 1TB tier or IP48 rating justify changing phones depends on which of those differences matters to you.
