What’s different between the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Flip7?
The clearest documented hardware difference is portability. Samsung’s Korean specification page lists the Flip8 at 180 g and 13.1 mm thick when folded; Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter report lists the Flip7 at 188 g and 13.7 mm folded. Those figures give the Flip8 an 8 g weight and 0.6 mm thickness advantage. The Flip8 figures are from a Korea-specific page, so check your market’s specifications rather than assuming every regional version is identical.

Samsung notes that display diagonals are measured with rounded corners included, so the viewable area is smaller. The Flip7 launch sheet specifies 60/120 Hz for the cover display; the cited Flip8 specifications establish its size and resolution but do not establish a directly comparable refresh-rate figure.

Are the screens or battery better on the Flip8?
Display size
Both phones have a 6.9-inch-class main display and a 4.1-inch-class cover display. The published dimensions and resolutions do not point to a headline screen-size upgrade on the Flip8. The available figures are not a complete side-by-side account of every display behavior, so they should not be treated as proof that the screens are identical in all respects.

Battery capacity and runtime
Samsung lists both models with a typical 4,300 mAh battery. That is a capacity figure, not a measure of how many hours either phone lasts: no comparable controlled endurance test is established here. Samsung’s 2026 Q1 report says the Flip7 increased from the Flip6’s 4,000 mAh capacity to 4,300 mAh.
Do the Flip8 cameras take better photos?
Samsung lists a 50 MP and 12 MP rear-camera setup and a 10 MP front camera for the Flip8, and highlights its 50 MP Flex Cam and ProVisual Engine. Those specifications and Samsung’s feature names do not demonstrate better image quality than the Flip7. The cited material does not provide a controlled, model-to-model camera comparison, so choose based on a comparison of sample photos if camera quality is decisive.

What about performance, durability, and software?
Samsung’s 2026 Q1 report identifies the Flip7’s chipset as Exynos 2500 and lists Android 16 and One UI 8.0. The cited Flip8 specification extraction gives CPU core count and clock speeds but does not identify a chipset name, and no direct benchmark comparison is established. There is likewise no comparative long-term reliability study, hinge-failure rate, or repair-cost evidence here. A newer model is not, on this evidence alone, proof of a particular speed or durability advantage.

Pick the Galaxy Z Flip8 if…
- You want the newest generation rather than a discounted predecessor.
- The lighter, thinner published dimensions matter to you.
- The price difference is small enough that the newer model is worth it to you.
Pick the Galaxy Z Flip7 if…
- You find it substantially cheaper than the Flip8 in the same storage configuration and comparable condition.
- You are comfortable buying the previous generation and the Flip8’s documented portability difference is not worth the premium.
Compare unlocked prices for matching storage, and account for whether a listing is new, refurbished, or used. Verify carrier compatibility and current stock with the seller. Samsung said Flip8 sales began on August 7, 2026 in select markets and described availability through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com, and Samsung Experience Stores in 106 markets; colors, storage and connectivity options, models, and availability can vary by market, carrier, or retailer. Should Flip7 owners upgrade?
The available evidence does not establish a strong upgrade case based on screen size or battery capacity: both remain in the same stated size classes and both are listed at 4,300 mAh typical. The measured-on-paper reason to consider the Flip8 is its 8 g lower weight and 0.6 mm thinner folded profile in the cited specifications. Whether that improvement justifies replacing a working Flip7 depends on the upgrade cost and how much portability matters to you; comparative performance, battery-life, and durability results are not established here.
