The Galaxy Z Flip8 is lighter and adds a larger main display, a 4,300mAh battery and updated regional chipset options, but the available US launch-price reports put its 256GB model $100 above the Flip7’s launch price. That is not a comparison of what either phone costs today: current prices vary by seller, storage and date. The specifications below come primarily from Samsung Australia, so features and configurations may differ by market.

Samsung Australia’s Flip8 guide supplies most of the newer phone’s detailed figures. Samsung’s Flip7 announcement describes its edge-to-edge FlexWindow and gives the 4.1-inch cover-display figure. The cited materials do not establish a complete like-for-like specification set for the Flip7, so missing values above are left unstated rather than inferred.

What changes with the Flip8?
It is 8 g lighter, according to Samsung
Samsung Australia lists the Flip8 at 180 g and the Flip7 at 188 g, an 8 g difference on those manufacturer figures. Samsung’s first-look page gives the Flip8’s unfolded and folded thicknesses, but the cited comparison does not provide a paired Flip7 thickness measured in the same way; thickness therefore cannot be compared reliably here. Samsung’s first look
The main screen is larger; the cover-screen size is unchanged
Samsung lists the Flip8’s inner display at 6.9 inches and its FlexWindow at 4.1 inches. Samsung’s 2025 Flip7 announcement also gives a 4.1-inch FlexWindow. Diagonal size alone does not establish differences in brightness, refresh rate or independently tested display quality.
Flip8 battery capacity is specified, but runtime is not established
Samsung lists a 4,300mAh battery and 25W wired, wireless and reverse wireless charging for the Flip8. A battery-capacity figure does not predict real-world runtime by itself, and the available cited Flip7 material does not establish a comparative capacity or tested battery-life result. Samsung describes the Flip8 as supporting all-day performance, but that is a manufacturer claim, not a controlled runtime measurement.
Camera and software differences need a cautious reading
The Flip8’s listed cameras are 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP front; Samsung also promotes AI camera features. The cited material does not provide a complete paired Flip7 camera specification or independent image-quality tests, so it cannot establish that the Flip8 takes better photos. Samsung’s Australia guide lists Android 17 and One UI 9 for Flip8 and describes FlexWindow app access, widgets, alerts, music controls and Now Brief. Software and feature availability can vary by region or update.

Chipset: check your market’s version
Samsung says Flip8 uses the Exynos 2600 in select markets and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in others. It is not a single global chipset configuration. Confirm the processor for the country and exact model you intend to buy; the available material does not establish the Flip7 chipset for a like-for-like performance comparison. No independent benchmark results are cited here.
US launch prices: a reported $100 increase
| Model and configuration | Reported US launch price | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Flip7 | $1,099.99 | Associated Press report from July 2025 |
| Galaxy Z Flip8, 12GB/256GB | $1,199 | Android Central report from July 2026 |
These reported US launch prices imply a $100 increase for the Flip8 256GB configuration compared with the Flip7’s reported launch price. They are not live listings or today’s street prices. The evidence does not establish the Flip8 512GB launch price, current discounts, or prices in other countries; compare the same storage tier and check current seller listings before deciding.

Choose the Flip8 if its specific upgrades matter to you
- You want the newer model’s 6.9-inch main display, lighter stated weight or 4,300mAh rated capacity.
- You need 256GB or 512GB storage and want the newer listed camera and software features.
- You have checked the chipset and configuration offered in your market and are comfortable paying more if current prices preserve the launch-price gap.
Consider the Flip7 if the current deal is substantially better
- You can buy it at a lower current price and do not need the Flip8’s specified changes.
- The cover-display concept is central to your choice: both models are listed with a 4.1-inch FlexWindow.
- You have verified the Flip7’s current configuration, availability and software support with the seller or Samsung for your market.
The evidence supports a specification comparison and a historical launch-price difference, not a verdict on present-day value. Samsung announced Flip7 global availability in July 2025 and Flip8 rollout beginning in August 2026; see Samsung’s Flip7 availability announcement and its Flip8 launch announcement.
