Its strongest case is the folded size and the ability to handle quick interactions on the cover screen; its weaker case is value, with a reviewer finding the camera hardware and battery endurance broadly similar to the prior generation.
What the Galaxy Z Flip8 offers
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip8 on August 5, 2026, and said sales would begin August 7. Samsung said it would be available through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores in 106 markets. Availability, configurations and pricing can differ by market, carrier and retailer, so confirm the exact local model before buying. Samsung’s US launch announcement and its global announcement describe the launch.

The defining trade-off is straightforward: the phone folds to a smaller footprint than a conventional slab phone, while opening into a full-size screen. That is useful if pocketability matters more to you than having a conventional, uninterrupted handset. The fold itself is not a performance feature; the practical question is whether you will use the compact shape and cover screen enough to justify the price.

Tom’s Guide reports improved performance and screen brightness on the Flip8, but describes its design, camera hardware and battery endurance as little changed from the previous generation. Its review calls the $100 price increase difficult to justify given those similarities. That is the publication’s assessment, not a universal verdict: brighter screens and a newer processor may matter more to some buyers than a camera or battery redesign. Tom’s Guide’s review details its findings.
- Consider the Flip8 if you want a new compact foldable and value the reported performance and brightness improvements.
- Keep a Flip7 if it still meets your needs; the available review evidence does not point to a major camera or battery leap.
- Compare current prices before deciding. The reported launch price is not necessarily today’s price, and discounts or local pricing can change the value calculation.
Cover screen and everyday interaction
Samsung positions the FlexWindow as a place to view apps, insights, actions and assistance without opening the phone. Its US launch announcement also names Now Brief and access to Gemini. These are Samsung’s feature descriptions, not independent findings about how well every app or task works on the cover screen. If you regularly want to check information or act quickly without unfolding a phone, this is the Flip8’s clearest convenience proposition.

Price and battery evidence
Tom’s Guide reports a US starting price of $1,199 for the 256GB model. That is review-reported launch pricing, not a guarantee of current availability or price; check the live price in your region. In the same review, Tom’s Guide recorded an average of 12 hours and 5 minutes in its battery-drain test. That is a result under that publication’s test conditions, not a prediction of how long every owner’s phone will last. Screen use, signal, apps and other conditions affect real-world endurance.
