Quick answer: Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy S25 models are generally rated IP68, the Galaxy A26 5G, A36 5G and A56 5G are IP67, and the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 are IP48. Samsung calls these phones water-resistant, not permanently waterproof. The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is a special case: Samsung’s U.S. support pages conflict between IPX8 and IP48.
Availability and ratings can vary by country, carrier and exact model number. Confirm the rating in the manual or regional support page for the phone you are buying.

2025 Galaxy water-resistance ratings at a glance
| Model | Rating | Solid-particle protection | Water protection | Practical warning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 | IP68 | Dust-tight | Samsung describes laboratory freshwater immersion up to 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes | Not a guarantee against saltwater, chemicals, pressure, damage or aging |
| Galaxy S25+ | IP68 | Dust-tight | Same Samsung laboratory description | Conditions are not a recommended operating limit |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | IP68 | Dust-tight | Same Samsung laboratory description | The supplied S Pen is separately identified by Samsung as IP68 on supported models |
| Galaxy S25 Edge | IP68, subject to market/SKU verification | Dust-tight | Samsung regional documentation places it in the IP68 S-series group | Samsung’s U.S. support list does not clearly include every Edge variant |
| Galaxy S25 FE | IP68 | Dust-tight | Temporary freshwater immersion under Samsung’s specified conditions | Verify the exact regional model |
| Galaxy A26 5G | IP67 | Dust-tight | Up to 1 m for up to 30 minutes under the IPX7 classification | Lower immersion classification than IP68 |
| Galaxy A36 5G | IP67 | Dust-tight | IPX7 temporary immersion category | Not intended for deliberate swimming or pool use |
| Galaxy A56 5G | IP67 | Dust-tight | IPX7 temporary immersion category | Exact conditions remain manufacturer-specific |
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | IP48 | Protects against solid objects about 1 mm and larger; not dust-tight | Water protection under Samsung’s specified conditions | Do not call it dustproof or equivalent to IP68 |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 | IP48 | Not dust-tight | Water protection under Samsung’s specified conditions | Hinge and particle exposure require extra care |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 FE | IPX8 or IP48, documentation conflict | “X” means no solids rating is stated | Water protection | Check the exact manual and regional support page before relying on either label |
Samsung’s general guidance is available at its U.S. IP-rating support page. The original S25 announcement specifies the 1.5-metre/30-minute freshwater laboratory condition at Samsung Newsroom.
What IP67, IP68, IP48 and IPX8 actually mean
IP stands for Ingress Protection. The first digit describes protection from solid particles; the second describes water protection.

- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
The first digit: dust and particles
- 6: Dust-tight under the relevant test conditions.
- 4: Protection against solid objects approximately 1 mm and larger. This is not dust-tight protection.
- X: No solids-protection level is stated. It does not automatically prove that the phone has no protection, but it should not be treated as tested dust protection.
That is why an IP48 foldable is materially different from an IP68 or IP67 slab phone, even though all three have an 8 or 7 in the water position.
The second digit: water
Samsung’s regional explanation describes IPX7 as up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes and IPX8, for the devices covered on that page, as up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. See Samsung UK’s water-resistance explanation. These are laboratory categories, not permission to exceed those conditions.
IP68 generally represents a higher immersion classification than IP67, but the exact depth and duration for an IPX8 device are set by the manufacturer. IP ratings also say nothing about drop resistance, hinge strength, screen-shatter resistance or repairability.
The 2025 Galaxy families
Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra
Samsung announced the three principal S25 phones on January 22, 2025, with availability beginning February 7. All are IP68. Samsung’s announcement describes temporary immersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. That supports accidental rain, spills or a brief freshwater drop—not swimming, diving, hot tubs, showers or underwater photography.

Galaxy S25 Edge and S25 FE
The S25 Edge appears in Samsung Korea’s IP68 guidance at Samsung Service, while Samsung’s U.S. support grouping is not fully consistent. Treat IP68 as market-specific until the exact SKU’s manual confirms it.
Samsung’s U.S. support page lists the S25 FE as IP68. It was introduced after the original S25 trio, so check regional availability rather than assuming every carrier sells the same configuration.
Galaxy A26 5G, A36 5G and A56 5G
Samsung’s 2025 A-series announcement confirms IP67 for all three models and identifies the A26 as the first A26 generation with that rating: Samsung Newsroom. Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP document listed starting prices of $299.99 for the A26 5G and $399.99 for the A36 5G; Samsung’s announcement said the A56 5G would start at $499.99 and arrive later in 2025. These are launch-era U.S. MSRP signals, not current sale prices.

Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7
Samsung announced availability for both foldables on July 25, 2025. The company’s comparison guide lists IP48: Samsung’s foldable comparison. The “4” means limited protection from larger particles, not a dust-tight seal. Their water rating does not make them equivalent to an IP68 conventional phone.

Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: an unresolved specification conflict
Samsung’s U.S. general IP list classifies the Z Flip7 FE as IPX8, while the comparison guide displays IP48 alongside an IPX8 note. Samsung’s pages therefore do not present one consistent rating. Check the exact model’s manual and regional support page before relying on either label.
Are Samsung Galaxy phones waterproof?
No. “Waterproof” implies permanent, universal protection that Samsung does not promise. Water resistance can decline with ordinary wear, impacts, cracks, damaged frames, worn seals, repairs or disassembly. Samsung also warns that salt water and ionized water should be avoided. Its guidance is at Samsung Support.
An IP-rated phone is designed for specified test conditions. It is not guaranteed against every depth, duration, temperature, current, pressure or liquid.

It can survive the temporary freshwater immersion described by Samsung’s laboratory condition, but deliberate submersion is not a recommended routine. Swimming, diving, water slides, hot tubs, showers and underwater photography add movement, pressure, heat, chemicals or longer exposure than the test assumes.

Ocean, pool and shower use
Do not intentionally use a Galaxy phone in the ocean or pool. Salt water, ionized water, chlorine, soap and other chemicals are outside the simple freshwater assumption. If saltwater exposure happens, Samsung recommends rinsing the phone with fresh water and drying it thoroughly. Steam and hot water are not interchangeable with a cool freshwater immersion test.
Charging and operating a wet Galaxy
- Disconnect the charger immediately.
- Wipe the phone and cable with a clean, soft cloth.
- Allow the phone to dry completely in open air.
- Inspect the USB port before reconnecting a cable; never insert an object into it.
- Do not charge while moisture may remain. Wireless charging is not a workaround if water may still be inside the phone or accessories.
- If warnings persist, the phone shuts down, cameras fog, or speakers, microphones or charging behave abnormally, contact Samsung service.
Touchscreens may not respond while wet. Dry the display and your fingers first. Speakers and microphones can sound muffled until water leaves their openings.

A case does not make a phone waterproof
A normal protective case helps prevent scratches and impact damage but does not add a tested waterproof rating. A genuinely sealed pouch or enclosure is more appropriate for boating, beaches, waterslides or poolside use, but it may reduce touch sensitivity, fingerprint recognition, camera quality, microphone and speaker performance, wireless charging and heat dissipation.
Cracks and previous repairs compromise confidence
Assume water resistance is compromised after cracks, chips, a damaged frame or a screen, back-glass, battery or other repair. Samsung says physical damage can significantly reduce dust and water resistance. Replace or repair a damaged phone before relying on its rating.

Which 2025 Galaxy is the safest choice?
Maximum mainstream water and dust protection
Choose an S25, S25+, S25 Ultra or S25 FE confirmed as IP68 for your market. Conventional slab construction also avoids the exposed moving hinge found on foldables.
Lower-cost protection
The Galaxy A26 5G is the budget pick among the listed models, with IP67 and a $299.99 U.S. starting MSRP in Samsung’s March 2025 document. The A36 5G and A56 5G offer the same IP67 classification at their higher launch prices. IP67 is meaningful protection, but it is not IP68.
If you want a foldable
Buy the Fold7 or Flip7 for the folding design, not for the strongest particle protection. Both are IP48. Treat the Flip7 FE cautiously because Samsung’s own pages conflict. If your work involves sand, dust, flour, metal filings or industrial debris, an IP67 or IP68 slab phone is the safer choice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBeach, pool and outdoor use
No 2025 Galaxy should be recommended for intentional ocean or pool use. Choose IP67 or IP68 for accidental exposure, use a sealed pouch for deliberate water-adjacent activities, and keep a cracked phone out of water.
What to do after a water incident
- Remove the phone from the liquid.
- Disconnect every cable and accessory.
- Remove external accessories where practical.
- Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth.
- After saltwater or ionized-water exposure, rinse with fresh water as Samsung advises.
- Let the phone air-dry fully. Do not use direct heat.
- Do not poke the USB port or reconnect power prematurely.
- Seek service for persistent moisture alerts, charging failure, camera fogging, abnormal shutdowns or continuing audio problems.
Official support and protection options
For cracks, suspected seal damage or ongoing moisture problems, use Samsung’s support and service-center pages: Samsung Support and service locations. Samsung Care+ is listed at Samsung Care+; coverage, deductibles, exclusions and enrollment rules vary, so do not assume liquid damage is covered without checking the current plan terms.
Official product pages include the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE and the Galaxy A-series hub. Listings and stock can change.
Bottom line
For the clearest combination of dust-tight construction and Samsung-documented immersion protection, choose a market-confirmed IP68 Galaxy S25 model or S25 FE. The A26, A36 and A56 provide lower-cost IP67 protection. Fold7 and Flip7 are water-resistant IP48 foldables, not dustproof phones, and the Flip7 FE’s rating remains inconsistent across Samsung’s own U.S. pages. Whichever model you choose, treat the rating as limited protection against accidental freshwater exposure—not a waterproof guarantee.
