Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the logical choice for an Android owner whose phone meets Samsung’s activation requirements. Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the natural choice for someone already using an iPhone. Only after that ecosystem decision should you weigh diving standards, screen brightness, size, charging and price.
This comparison treats “Apple Watch Ultra” as Apple Watch Ultra 3, the model Apple identifies as introduced in 2025. The comparison uses manufacturer specifications rather than an independent head-to-head test, so peak brightness, battery figures and water ratings should not be read as laboratory proof that one watch performs better in every real-world situation.

Quick verdict
Choose Galaxy Watch Ultra2 if you use an Android phone, want Samsung’s stated 5,000-nit peak display, need a 47 mm titanium case with 10 ATM, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H claims, or value the published 800 mAh capacity and fast-charging claim. Samsung requires Android 13 or later, more than 1.5 GB of device memory and a phone that supports Google Mobile Services for activation.
Choose Apple Watch Ultra 3 if you use an iPhone, prefer Apple’s watch ecosystem, or want the dimensions and weight Apple publishes for its 49 mm case. Apple specifies a 3,000-nit peak display, 100 m water resistance under ISO 22810:2010 and recreational scuba support to 40 m under EN13319.

Neither watch should be called waterproof. Their ratings use different standards and describe different forms of use. The cited specifications also do not establish a battery-life winner: Samsung publishes a capacity, while Apple’s cited technical page does not publish an mAh figure, and there is no same-method independent battery test in the available evidence.
The models and evidence behind this comparison
Samsung’s US product page identifies Galaxy Watch Ultra2 as a 47 mm titanium smartwatch. It lists the battery, display, GPS, durability and charging figures used here. The page showed a US starting price of $699.99 when accessed on October 13, 2026; that price can change with promotions, configuration and stock, so check the live listing before purchase: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 specifications and price.
Samsung’s July 22, 2026 announcement supplies the software and activation conditions: Android 13.0 or higher, more than 1.5 GB of device memory, and a phone supporting Google Mobile Services. Samsung also warns that compatibility can vary by market, carrier and device brand: Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra2 compatibility announcement.
Apple’s technical specification page identifies Apple Watch Ultra 3 as a 2025 model and supplies its case measurements, weights, screen brightness, GPS, dust and water ratings: Apple Watch Ultra 3 technical specifications. Apple’s water-resistance guidance explains that the watch is water resistant rather than waterproof and that resistance can diminish over time: Apple Watch water-resistance guidance.

Phone compatibility should decide first
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 with Android
Samsung’s published minimum is Android 13.0 or newer, with more than 1.5 GB of device memory. Initial activation also requires a phone that supports Google Mobile Services. That last condition matters if you use an Android phone without Google’s services or a device variant built for a market with different software.
Samsung says compatible devices can differ by market, carrier and device brand. A phone meeting the Android-number requirement therefore is not an automatic guarantee of every feature. Before buying, check your phone model against Samsung’s compatibility list for your country and carrier, then confirm that the phone can install and run Samsung’s watch setup software.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 with iPhone
Apple Watch Ultra 3 belongs to Apple’s iPhone-based watch ecosystem. The cited technical page does not provide a single minimum iPhone and software threshold in the material available for this comparison. Check Apple’s current regional support information for the exact iPhone generation, iOS version, cellular eligibility and family-setup rules that apply to your phone before ordering.

An Android owner should not buy Apple Watch Ultra 3 expecting a stand-alone Android pairing path. Conversely, an iPhone owner should not assume every Galaxy Watch Ultra2 function will be available simply because the watch has GPS and cellular hardware. Ecosystem support is a compatibility issue, not a feature that can be fixed with a different watch face or app.
Ruggedness, dust and diving: similar ambition, different standards
Samsung’s protection claims
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 combines a titanium case with 10 ATM and IP69K ratings, MIL-STD-810H testing claims and EN13319 depth-gauge certification. Samsung advertises dive-ready use down to 130 feet. Those statements describe Samsung’s specified protection and intended use; they do not mean every shock, chemical, temperature change or dive environment is safe.
Apple’s protection claims
Apple Watch Ultra 3 carries IP6X dust resistance and a 100 m water-resistance rating under ISO 22810:2010. Apple also lists recreational scuba diving to 40 m under EN13319 when used with a compatible third-party app. Apple’s guidance explicitly says the watch is water resistant, not waterproof, and that water resistance can reduce as the device ages.
How to interpret the numbers
ATM, IP, MIL-STD and ISO 22810 are different rating systems. A higher-looking number in one system does not create a universal ranking against a number in another. EN13319 appears in both manufacturers’ material, but Samsung describes a depth-gauge certification and Apple describes recreational scuba use with an app. Keep the manufacturer’s wording attached to the rating when deciding whether a planned activity is supported.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- For swimming and ordinary water sports, follow the care instructions for the exact watch and avoid assuming that seals remain unchanged after years of use.
- For scuba, stay within the maker’s stated activity and depth limits and use the required software or compatible app.
- After exposure to salt water, chlorine or other chemicals, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance rather than treating the rating as permanent protection.
- Do not use either specification as permission for high-pressure water, impact beyond the stated testing or a damaged watch case.
Outdoor screens: Samsung lists the brighter peak
Samsung lists Galaxy Watch Ultra2 at up to 5,000 nits peak brightness, while Apple lists Apple Watch Ultra 3 at up to 3,000 nits. On the published figures alone, Samsung has the higher peak specification, which may appeal to hikers, cyclists and climbers who read a map or workout screen in strong sun.
Peak nits are not the same as sustained brightness or measured readability. Brightness can vary with automatic controls, heat, battery state, the watch face and the amount of the screen that is illuminated. No controlled outdoor comparison is established here, so treat the figures as manufacturer-listed ceilings rather than a promise that Samsung will always look 1.67 times easier to read.
Battery and charging: published evidence is incomplete
Samsung publishes an 800 mAh battery capacity for Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and advertises charging of up to 40% in about 30 minutes under its stated conditions. That is useful information for planning a quick top-up, but it is not a battery-life test. Actual endurance depends on display settings, GPS use, LTE activity, health tracking, temperature and software.

The cited Apple technical specification does not publish an mAh capacity for Apple Watch Ultra 3. Because capacity is missing and there is no independent same-method endurance test in the available sources, it would be misleading to declare either watch the battery winner from these pages alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhen comparing a particular purchase, ask three practical questions: how often you can charge, whether your planned GPS or cellular sessions run for hours, and whether the supplied charger fits your travel setup. Compare manufacturer endurance claims only when the measurement conditions are stated in the same way; otherwise use them as separate planning information.
Fit, dimensions and wearing comfort
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is identified as a 47 mm titanium watch. Apple Watch Ultra 3 measures 49 × 44 × 12 mm, and Apple lists a case weight of 61.6 g in natural titanium or 61.8 g in black. Samsung’s cited product page does not provide a comparable case weight, so a direct mass comparison cannot be made from these specifications.
The two-millimetre difference in nominal case size is small on paper but can matter on a narrow wrist, under a jacket cuff or during sleep. Case diameter is only part of comfort: thickness, lug geometry, band material, wrist circumference and how tightly you wear the watch affect pressure and movement. Try the exact case and band combination if you are sensitive to large watches.
Neither manufacturer’s figures here establish scratch resistance, button feel, sensor comfort or long-term band durability. Those are hands-on qualities and require an independent review or personal fitting rather than a specification-sheet conclusion.
GPS and navigation hardware
Both watches list dual-frequency positioning: Samsung specifies L1+L5 GPS and Apple specifies L1/L5 GPS. Dual-frequency reception can help a compatible device handle reflected signals in difficult environments such as dense urban streets or tree cover, but the label alone does not prove equal track accuracy.
Real route quality depends on antenna design, satellite visibility, software algorithms, map data, recording mode and whether the watch is worn with a phone. No independent GPS course test is established for this comparison. If navigation is safety-critical, keep a backup plan and do not treat a specification line as a guarantee of reception in every canyon, forest or indoor location.

Cellular service and country availability
Cellular support is configuration- and region-dependent. Check whether the exact Galaxy Watch Ultra2 or Apple Watch Ultra 3 variant sold in your country supports LTE bands used by your carrier, whether the carrier offers a compatible wearable plan, and whether activation requires the watch and phone to share an account.
Samsung specifically cautions that compatible devices can vary by market and carrier. Apple’s technical page cited here is not a regional carrier catalog, so verify Apple’s current country page and your carrier before paying extra for a cellular model. A cellular watch may still need a phone for initial setup, account management or some features.
Price and configuration: compare like with like
The Samsung US page showed a starting price of $699.99 on October 13, 2026. It is a time-sensitive US figure, not a worldwide MSRP or a guarantee that every band and connectivity configuration costs the same.
The Apple source used here is a technical-specification page and does not state a current price. Do not conclude that one watch is cheaper from this comparison. Open the current Apple and Samsung store pages for your country and match case material, band, GPS-only versus cellular configuration, taxes, delivery and any active promotion.
Prices can move while specifications remain unchanged. If you are comparing a discounted previous configuration with a full-price current one, record the model number and connectivity option so the apparent bargain is not a different product.
Which watch fits your priorities?
Choose Galaxy Watch Ultra2 when
- Your primary phone is an Android model that meets Samsung’s Android, memory and Google Mobile Services activation requirements.
- You place a high value on the higher manufacturer-listed peak brightness.
- You want Samsung’s published 10 ATM, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H and EN13319 claims in one rugged watch specification.
- The published 800 mAh capacity and Samsung’s stated quick-charge claim fit your charging routine.
- The 47 mm titanium format suits your wrist and clothing.
Choose Apple Watch Ultra 3 when
- You already rely on an iPhone and want the Apple Watch ecosystem rather than cross-platform compromises.
- You prefer Apple’s documented 49 × 44 × 12 mm case dimensions and stated 61.6 or 61.8 g case weights.
- Apple’s 100 m ISO 22810:2010 rating and 40 m EN13319 recreational scuba specification match your activities.
- You want Apple’s published L1/L5 GPS specification and are prepared to verify regional cellular support separately.
Pause before buying either one when
- Your phone is near the software minimum or lacks the required Google services.
- You need an exact cellular carrier match that you have not confirmed.
- You plan technical, commercial or unusually deep diving beyond the recreational limits stated by the manufacturer.
- You are choosing solely from peak brightness or battery capacity without considering sustained use and charging conditions.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Identify your phone ecosystem. Record the exact phone model, operating-system version and, for Android, whether Google Mobile Services are installed and supported.
- Check the regional compatibility page. Confirm that your country, carrier and phone appear in the manufacturer’s supported combinations.
- Choose GPS-only or cellular deliberately. Verify LTE bands, wearable-plan support and whether the plan adds a recurring charge.
- Match the activity to the rating. Read the water-resistance and diving limits for your intended use; do not substitute an ATM or ISO number for a dive operator’s safety rules.
- Measure your wrist. Compare the actual case size, thickness and band adjustment, not just the marketing name “Ultra.”
- Refresh the price on the day you buy. Compare the same case, band and connectivity configuration in the same currency.
- Plan charging. Check where you will charge during trips and whether GPS, LTE and a bright always-on display will increase charging frequency.
What these specifications cannot answer
The manufacturer pages do not provide an independent health-sensor accuracy comparison, standardized battery endurance test, controlled outdoor readability test, or head-to-head GPS track result. They also do not establish that one watch’s titanium case, buttons, bands or seals will last longer in your particular environment.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Those omissions are important when the watch will support navigation, training or diving. Use the specifications to eliminate incompatible options, then seek testing that uses the same course, settings and measurement method for both watches. For diving, follow qualified training and the manufacturer’s operating instructions regardless of the watch selected.
Bottom line: ecosystem first, specifications second
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the stronger specification match for an Android user who wants Samsung’s higher listed peak brightness, large battery-capacity figure, quick-charge claim and broad ruggedness certifications. Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the straightforward choice for an iPhone user who values Apple integration, a fully documented case profile and Apple’s stated water and recreational-scuba limits.
Before checkout, verify the current phone requirement, country availability, LTE support and live regional price. Once those practical checks pass, choose the watch whose case fits your wrist and whose stated activity limits match what you actually do; the headline brightness or battery number alone cannot make that decision.
