On most Samsung Galaxy phones, touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen, tap Wallpaper and style → Change wallpapers, choose an image, adjust its crop, select the screen destination offered, and tap Done. You can also start with a personal picture in Gallery. The exact choices vary by model, software version, region, and launcher.
Set a wallpaper from the Home screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Tap Wallpaper and style, then Change wallpapers.
- Choose a source. Depending on the phone, options may include Featured, Gallery, Creative, Colors, or a wallpaper service.
- Select a wallpaper and tap Done to open its preview.
- Choose Home screen, Lock screen, or both if those destinations are offered. Drag or pinch the image to position and crop it, then tap Done to apply it.
The preview is the reliable guide to which screen or screens the selected wallpaper can use on your device.

Set a personal photo or video from Gallery
To begin with your own media, open the image in Gallery, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Set as wallpaper. Select the destination shown, adjust the preview, and tap Done. Samsung’s documented controls and destination choices vary according to the selected media and available workflow. Samsung Japan’s instructions describe choosing the Home screen or both screens for a picture.

Adjust a photo to fit
Galaxy screens crop an image to fit the display. In the preview, drag the picture to reposition it and pinch to zoom in or out where supported. A source image with room around its subject can be easier to position without cutting off important details. On supported devices, Samsung’s US guide describes photo filters and, on devices running One UI 6.1 or later, Frame or Effect options in relevant wallpaper flows. These controls are not available on every phone or for every selection.

Use a video wallpaper
Select a video in the Gallery wallpaper flow, trim it if the editor offers that control, and check which destination the preview allows. Samsung’s UK support page says a selected video can play as wallpaper for up to 15 seconds; its publication date is not stated, so treat that as Samsung’s published limit rather than a guarantee for every current Galaxy model. Samsung’s regional support instructions differ on whether video can be assigned to the Home screen or only the Lock screen. Follow the destinations shown on your phone.
Change the Lock screen wallpaper while viewing it
- Touch and hold the Lock screen. Unlock or authenticate if the phone asks.
- Tap Wallpapers or the wallpaper icon, depending on the editing screen.
- Select a wallpaper source such as Gallery, then choose and position an image.
- If the editor offers Lock screen elements such as clock style or widgets, adjust them as needed, then save or tap Done.
Samsung says this editing route requires a Lock screen to be set up. A security prompt is expected when the device requires authentication to edit it.

Choose between built-in designs, Gallery, and wallpaper services

Samsung’s US guide lists Galaxy AI wallpaper features for select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. Compatibility varies by device. Samsung says basic Galaxy AI features provided by Samsung are free, while enhanced Samsung AI and third-party AI features may have different terms or fees.

The menu names or choices do not match
Samsung’s wallpaper menus differ by model, installed software, region, and home app. Samsung Japan’s instructions specifically apply to One UI Home and warn that some functions may not be available in another launcher. Check the equivalent wallpaper controls on your device rather than assuming every Galaxy phone has the same menu.

The image looks too zoomed in or the subject is cut off
Reposition the image in the preview and pinch to adjust its scale if that control is available. Because the phone crops the image to fit the display, a source photo with more space around the subject may give you more flexibility.
The phone will not offer Home screen or both screens
Destination choices depend on the device, workflow, and selected media. Samsung Japan’s documented flow offers only the Lock screen when a video or multiple images are selected. Other Samsung instructions describe different destinations. Use the options shown in your preview; a missing destination is not necessarily a setting error.

Creative or AI wallpaper controls are missing
Some wallpaper tools are tied to particular One UI versions and compatible devices. Check your installed software version and the Samsung support information for your exact model if you are looking for a feature that is absent.
You cannot use different wallpapers on individual Home screen pages
Samsung Japan says its One UI Home workflow does not support assigning a separate wallpaper to each Home screen page. Its guidance describes multiple-image selection for the Lock screen instead.
