Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs Lenovo Tab P12: Which Android Tablet Offers Better Value?

The Lenovo Tab P12 is the better value when it is substantially cheaper and you want the biggest possible screen, a larger battery and a documented four-speaker setup. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is the safer all-round choice when prices are close because it includes an S Pen, adds a smoother 90Hz display and gives both tablet and pen IP68 protection. Prices change by country, storage, cellular model and bundle, so compare identical configurations before deciding.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs Lenovo Tab P12: the short answer

These tablets target different interpretations of value. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE is a more compact, ready-to-write device with a 90Hz screen and water-and-dust protection. The Lenovo Tab P12 is a larger-format Android tablet built around a 12.7-inch 3K display, a 10,200mAh battery and four JBL speakers.

Choose the Lenovo Tab P12 if your priority is reading, split-screen work, drawing on a large canvas or watching video at the lowest cost. Its advantage is strongest when a sale makes it materially cheaper than a Galaxy Tab S9 FE with the same storage and connectivity.

Choose the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if you want dependable out-of-box handwriting, a more portable body, smoother scrolling and protection against water and dust. At similar prices, those conveniences make Samsung the more balanced purchase for students and general use.

Display: bigger workspace or smoother motion?

Lenovo Tab P12: 12.7-inch 3K canvas

The Tab P12 uses a 12.7-inch LTPS LCD with a 2944×1840 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and stated brightness of 400 nits. The extra diagonal area is immediately useful for textbooks, sheet music, spreadsheets and two apps side by side. Its 3K-class resolution also keeps small text and fine interface elements sharper when you sit close to the panel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The trade-off is motion. At 60Hz, scrolling through long web pages and handwriting animations update less frequently than on Samsung’s 90Hz panel. That does not make the P12 unusable for notes or video; it simply gives the Samsung a more fluid feel during everyday navigation.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE: compact 90Hz panel

Samsung’s screen measures 10.9 inches diagonally, uses an LCD panel at 1440×2304 and supports 90Hz refresh. The smaller footprint is easier to hold in one hand and takes less space on a classroom desk or airplane tray. The higher refresh rate makes scrolling lists and moving between pages appear smoother.

For reading an A4-sized document at comfortable zoom, the P12 leaves more room around the page. For carrying the tablet all day and writing while standing, the S9 FE’s dimensions and refresh rate are generally more convenient. Screen-size preference should therefore come before resolution marketing: a larger panel helps you see more, while 90Hz improves the feel of interaction.

Performance and software

Exynos 1380 versus Dimensity 7050

The S9 FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 1380, while the P12 uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7050. Both are positioned as mid-range mobile platforms. The available official specifications do not include a controlled benchmark run on identical software, memory and thermal conditions, so it would be misleading to call one universally faster.

  • WATER RESISTANT, FROM DROPS TO DUNKS: From droplets to splashes to full immersion in water, Galaxy Tab S10 FE Series is dependably durable.⁵

For common tablet jobs—browser tabs, office documents, video playback, note apps and casual games—your experience will depend as much on memory configuration, app optimization and multitasking habits as on the processor badge. If a specific game or professional app matters, check its Android compatibility and the seller’s exact RAM configuration rather than choosing from the chip name alone.

Software fit matters more than a benchmark headline

Samsung’s software integration is a reason many buyers choose the S9 FE even when a larger rival is available. The tablet is designed around the included S Pen and Samsung’s broader device ecosystem, which can make moving between compatible Samsung devices and using handwriting features feel coherent. Lenovo’s interface is a more conventional large-screen Android experience and pairs naturally with the P12’s keyboard connector and big display.

Neither tablet should be purchased on an assumption of flagship-class gaming or workstation performance. Their value lies in screen, battery and accessory combinations for study, entertainment and everyday productivity.

Battery life and charging

Capacity is not the same as runtime

Samsung lists an 8,000mAh typical battery for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Lenovo lists 10,200mAh typical capacity for the Tab P12, a substantially larger cell. Lenovo’s US product page says the tablet can provide up to 10 hours, but that figure comes from Lenovo’s internal test conditions. Brightness, wireless use, video resolution, games and background synchronization can all change real-world endurance, so the claim is not directly comparable with every Samsung workload.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The P12’s additional capacity is useful for long flights, all-day reading and extended video sessions, especially on the larger screen. It also adds weight and physical size. The S9 FE’s smaller display and lower overall footprint can offset some of its capacity disadvantage during light tasks.

Charging expectations

Lenovo documents 30W quick charging for the Tab P12. The supplied Samsung specifications establish the battery capacity but do not provide a directly comparable charging figure in the same evidence. Check the charger included with the regional package: tablet listings sometimes show a charging speed that assumes a separately purchased adapter.

Writing, studying and pen support

Samsung: S Pen included

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE includes an S Pen in the box. Samsung states that the inbox pen and tablet are water- and dust-resistant to IP68. That combination removes two common purchase decisions: finding a compatible stylus and determining whether the pen is protected from accidental splashes.

For students, the practical benefit is immediate setup. You can annotate a PDF, write lecture notes or mark up a photograph without adding a stylus to the budget. The pen’s IP68 rating is a device-protection feature, not a promise that every use in water is safe; keep ports closed and follow Samsung’s care guidance after exposure.

Lenovo: Tab Pen Plus support, bundle uncertainty

The Lenovo Tab P12 supports the Tab Pen Plus, but Lenovo’s specification does not mean every retail package contains one. Some regional bundles include a pen or keyboard, while others sell the tablet alone. Verify the box contents for the exact model number before assuming handwriting is ready on day one.

If a listing says “pen compatible” rather than “pen included,” budget for the separate accessory. A discounted P12 can lose its value advantage once you add a stylus and keyboard that are included with another bundle. Replacement-pen availability and pricing also vary by country.

Which is better for notes?

For handwritten notes, both can work when correctly equipped. The S9 FE is the lower-risk purchase because the S Pen is standard and the screen is smoother at 90Hz. The P12 is preferable when the larger writing area matters more than animation smoothness and the seller confirms a Tab Pen Plus in the package.

Durability and portability

Samsung gives the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and its included S Pen an IP68 rating. That is a meaningful advantage for commuters, field workers and households where a spill is more likely. The cited Lenovo specifications do not establish an IP rating for the Tab P12, so do not treat the two tablets as equally water-resistant.

The P12’s 12.7-inch body and 10,200mAh battery make it a substantial portable screen rather than a small reader. It is well suited to a desk, stand or lap. The 10.9-inch S9 FE is easier to carry between classrooms and meetings, and its compact size can matter more than a larger panel if you frequently use it without a table.

Speakers and entertainment

Lenovo explicitly lists four JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos on the Tab P12. Combined with the 12.7-inch display, that makes the P12 the clearly documented choice for watching films, listening to podcasts and sharing a screen in a room.

  • Large 10.9-Inch Display: Features a spacious 1920 x 1080 Full HD touchscreen for immersive viewing.
  • Long Battery Life: Provides up to 14 hours of video playback on a single charge for on-the-go entertainment.
  • High-Resolution Camera: Includes a 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera for crisp photos and videos.
  • Fast Processor: Equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor for smooth performance.
  • Built-in Storage: Comes with 128GB of internal storage for apps, media and more.

The Samsung specifications used here do not establish a speaker count, so a numerical audio comparison would be unfair. The S9 FE remains suitable for streaming, but buyers who care about built-in speaker output should listen to a store sample or plan to use headphones or an external speaker.

Storage, connectivity and expansion

Storage choices

Both tablets are offered in 128GB and 256GB variants and support microSD expansion. Availability differs by country, and a cellular model may not be offered at every capacity. Compare the full model number rather than relying on a retailer’s short product name.

Wireless and physical ports

The S9 FE is sold in Wi-Fi and 5G versions, while Samsung’s USB-C implementation can vary by SKU. The P12 specification lists Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C 2.0, a microSD slot and a pogo connector for compatible accessories. The pogo connector is useful if you intend to add Lenovo’s keyboard solution, but it does not guarantee that a keyboard is included.

Before ordering, confirm whether you need mobile data, a headphone adapter, external-display support or fast file transfer. USB-C 2.0 on the P12 is adequate for charging and ordinary peripherals but is not the same as a faster USB data standard.

Price and value: compare the complete package

There is no single global winner because tablet pricing changes by country, retailer, storage and promotions. Indicative India retail listings collected by Smartprix in 2026 show that the same model family can vary materially by seller and configuration. Use those listings as a price check, not as a universal international price.

Build your comparison around identical equipment:

  • Match 128GB with 128GB or 256GB with 256GB.
  • Match Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi or 5G with 5G.
  • Count the S Pen, Tab Pen Plus and keyboard in the package price.
  • Check whether the charger is included and what charging speed it supports.
  • Compare warranty terms and the seller’s return policy in your country.

A P12 discount is compelling when the tablet is cheaper even after adding a required pen. The S9 FE’s premium is easier to justify when the prices are close because its S Pen and IP68 protection are included, while its 90Hz panel improves everyday interaction.

Which tablet is best for different buyers?

For school and university notes

Pick the Galaxy Tab S9 FE when you want to open the box and start writing. The included S Pen, 90Hz display and water-and-dust rating reduce setup and maintenance concerns. Pick the P12 if your notes involve large diagrams, two-page PDFs or split-screen research and the listing includes the Tab Pen Plus.

For reading textbooks and PDFs

The Tab P12’s 12.7-inch 2944×1840 display shows more of a page at once and leaves more room for side-by-side references. Its 60Hz refresh is unlikely to matter for static reading. The S9 FE is easier to hold for long periods and may be preferable if you read while commuting.

For streaming and family entertainment

The P12 combines the larger display with four JBL speakers and Dolby Atmos, so it is the stronger documented media package. The S9 FE is the more compact option for personal viewing and travel, particularly when a smaller bag matters.

For travel and outdoor use

Samsung is the safer choice where rain, splashes or dusty conditions are realistic because the tablet and included pen carry IP68 ratings. Lenovo’s larger battery can be valuable on long journeys, but do not infer water resistance from its lack of a stated rating.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For keyboard-based productivity

The P12’s documented pogo connector and large screen favor a desk setup with a compatible keyboard. Confirm whether the keyboard is bundled. The S9 FE’s smaller body is better for short email sessions and mobile note-taking, but the exact keyboard and USB-C capabilities depend on the regional SKU.

For gaming

Neither the Exynos 1380 nor Dimensity 7050 should be treated as a guaranteed gaming champion without an apples-to-apples test. Check the requirements of the games you actually play, then prioritize cooling, storage, controller support and the seller’s return policy. The S9 FE’s 90Hz refresh can make supported games and menus look smoother; the P12 gives you a larger view.

Buying checklist before you pay

  1. Write down the exact model number, storage capacity and whether it is Wi-Fi or 5G.
  2. Confirm the display and battery specifications match the version you intend to buy.
  3. Read the package-contents section: S Pen is standard with the S9 FE, while Tab Pen Plus and keyboard inclusion varies for the P12.
  4. Check the final delivered price, including tax, shipping and any required stylus or charger.
  5. Verify warranty coverage and return conditions with the seller.
  6. For a P12, decide whether the 12.7-inch size fits your bag and normal seating position.
  7. For an S9 FE, decide whether 10.9 inches provides enough room for your PDFs and split-screen work.

Final verdict

Buy the Lenovo Tab P12 when its complete package is clearly cheaper and you value a 12.7-inch 3K workspace, 10,200mAh battery and four-speaker media system. Buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE when prices are close, handwriting must work immediately, portability and 90Hz smoothness matter, or IP68 protection is worth paying for. The best value is the tablet that matches your screen and accessory needs after local pricing—not the one with the more impressive isolated specification.
