Yes. Samsung says Galaxy SmartTag3 can be used with non-Galaxy Android phones that have Google Play access to install SmartThings and Samsung Find. That broader compatibility does not mean every feature works on every phone: Compass View is limited to qualifying Galaxy models, and Samsung lists several features as unavailable on iOS. SmartTag3 uses Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network, not Google’s Find My Device network.
Which Android phones can use Galaxy SmartTag3?
Samsung announced SmartTag3 on September 30, 2026. In a clarification reported by Android Authority on October 5, Samsung said other Android devices are compatible if they can access Google Play to download the SmartThings and Samsung Find apps. This is the basis for the expanded Android support claim; it is not a statement that the tag joins Google’s Find My Device network. Android Authority reported Samsung’s clarification.

The reviewed announcement does not clearly state a minimum Android version for every basic function on non-Galaxy phones. Do not assume a particular minimum based on earlier SmartTag models: Samsung’s existing SmartTag and SmartTag+ support page concerns previous-generation products, not SmartTag3.
What features depend on the phone?
Non-Galaxy Android
The compatibility clarification supports app-based use on Android phones with Google Play access. Samsung’s broader feature descriptions include finding and sharing, but do not establish that every advanced feature works on every non-Galaxy Android device. Check the SmartThings and Samsung Find app availability on your phone before buying.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Galaxy precision finding
Samsung says Compass View requires a Galaxy phone running Android 12 or later and hardware that supports UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding. Samsung’s September 30 announcement lists Channel Sounding support on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Galaxy S26 Plus; it says more devices may be supported later. This manufacturer list can change with device and software support. Samsung describes Channel Sounding as distance and direction guidance, with UWB providing greater precision at close range on compatible hardware.
iPhone and iPad
Samsung describes core finding and sharing support across Galaxy and iOS devices, but says Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert are unavailable on iOS. “Supported” therefore does not mean feature parity with Galaxy phones.

How SmartTag3 finds an item
When the tag is within direct connection range, the phone can help locate it; Samsung highlights Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding for distance and direction guidance, and UWB for more precise close-range finding on supported devices. If the tag is outside the phone’s direct connection, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network can report its location through participating Galaxy devices. Samsung says more than 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide can act as network nodes. That is Samsung’s stated network scale, not an independent count or a guarantee of a prompt location update: results depend on nearby participating devices, settings, network conditions, and region.
Samsung also lists Place Notification, Location History, Movement Detection Alert, NFC Lost Mode, SmartThings IoT Control, and Left Behind Alert. Place Notification is labeled a trial feature. Movement alerts depend on nearby Galaxy devices that have agreed to Offline finding, so an alert may be delayed or not arrive. Location History is retained for up to seven days, and Samsung says location data is encrypted. To use Lost Mode, register contact information beforehand; a person scanning the tag needs an NFC-capable device and internet access to see it.

Battery, range, and durability claims
Samsung advertises up to 550 days of battery life in standard use and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. Those are simulated results from Samsung internal lab tests using a pre-release device and the included CR2032 battery; actual duration varies, and some functions may be unavailable in Power Saving Mode.
Samsung claims up to 60 meters of Channel Sounding detection range under line-of-sight conditions. Walls, nearby electronics, and other obstructions can reduce both range and accuracy, so this is not a guaranteed indoor distance.

The tag carries an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating. Samsung’s footnote specifies immersion in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, cautions against beach or pool use, and notes that resistance may diminish over time. Samsung says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation; its weight comparison is based on the respective product weights.

Should a non-Galaxy Android user consider it?
SmartTag3 is a plausible choice if your Android phone can install both required Samsung apps and you want to use Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network. Before buying, weigh these practical checks:
- Confirm Google Play access and that SmartThings and Samsung Find are available for your phone.
- Do not count on Galaxy-only Compass View or assume Channel Sounding support without checking your specific model.
- Consider whether Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network suits where you expect to search; the stated network size does not guarantee a nearby reporting device.
- For a pet collar, fasten the tag securely. Samsung warns that detached tag components may pose a swallowing hazard to young children and pets. A tracker is not a substitute for supervision or dedicated pet-safety measures.
Samsung names a silicone keyring case and a loop case as optional accessories sold separately. Its battery-life figures use the in-box CR2032; consult the product manual for replacement guidance.
