Review which apps can access your camera, microphone, and location
Check recent access before changing permissions. An app may need a permission for a feature you rely on, so make decisions app by app rather than revoking everything at once.

Inspect and change an app permission
- Open Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy > Permission manager. Samsung’s menu wording may vary; search Settings for “Permission manager” if needed.
- Choose a permission, such as Camera or Microphone, to see which apps can use it.
- Select an app and choose an available option, such as Allow only while using the app, Ask every time, or Don’t allow. Options depend on the permission and software.
- Open the app afterward and check any feature that should still work. If it does not, revisit the permission and select the access that feature requires.

Check recent access and limit location precision
Android’s Privacy dashboard shows which apps accessed sensitive data and when. Google says the dashboard shows seven days of activity history on Android 13 and 24 hours on Android 12, so the period is not the same across versions. Open Settings and search for “Privacy dashboard” if the menu path differs. For apps that do not need an exact position, consider granting approximate rather than precise location. Use the camera and microphone indicator
Samsung says a green indicator appears when an app is using the camera or microphone. If it appears unexpectedly, review recent access and the relevant permissions; Samsung’s guidance was updated June 11, 2026. See Samsung Gulf’s camera and microphone instructions.
Consider Auto Blocker if you install apps outside official stores
Where available, Auto Blocker can block apps downloaded from unverified sources outside the Play Store or Galaxy Store. Look under Settings > Security and privacy, or search Settings for “Auto Blocker.” Samsung says security features are not available on every device; read its Auto Blocker troubleshooting guidance before relying on the control.

Improve battery behavior by finding the cause first
Check battery use before restricting apps. A background limit may help an infrequently used app, but restricting a service you depend on can delay notifications or syncing.

Review battery use and display settings
Open Settings > Battery and inspect which apps or features are using power; the exact path and labels vary. Samsung also identifies display settings as a battery consideration. Its UK battery guide and Galaxy battery optimization page describe available checks. These sources do not establish a guaranteed runtime gain for any individual setting.

Put only low-priority apps to sleep
Samsung’s Background usage limits let you place apps in sleeping or deep sleeping lists. Sleeping apps are restricted from running freely in the background; deep sleeping apps work only when opened, according to Samsung. To manage them, search Settings for “Background usage limits” or “Sleeping apps.”
Keep apps out of deep sleep if you rely on them for time-sensitive messaging, health alerts, navigation, or automation. Samsung developer documentation notes that sleeping-app behavior can restrict jobs, alarms, and foreground services. After changing a list, check that important notifications still arrive. Choose Power saving for the trade-offs you accept
Samsung’s Power saving mode can be configured to change selected features, and available options may include display or connectivity limits. Which controls appear and how they affect the phone depend on its software and configuration. Search Settings for “Power saving” to inspect the options on your device. Battery protection controls vary by model and One UI version. Samsung’s One UI 6.1 guide describes three modes. These are settings thresholds, not a promise of a particular battery lifespan.

Samsung says older software may offer only an 85% limit, and battery optimization varies by model. To find your option, search Settings for “Battery protection.” The mode names and thresholds above are from Samsung’s UK One UI 6.1 guide, updated May 21, 2024.
Use Modes and Routines for changes you want automated
Modes and Routines can trigger settings by context or schedule. Samsung’s examples include muting notifications and enabling Wi-Fi for work, or lowering brightness at bedtime. Custom modes can also include Do not disturb and restrictions on app use. Availability varies by model and software version.
- Search Settings for “Modes and Routines” and open the feature if it is available.
- Create a mode or routine around one situation, such as bedtime or work, and choose its trigger.
- Add only the actions you want to automate, such as lowering brightness or changing notification behavior.
- Run it under ordinary conditions and check that alarms, important notifications, and connectivity still behave as expected.
