The Galaxy S26 Ultra adds a dedicated 5x telephoto camera, an S Pen, and Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display; the Galaxy S26+ is smaller and 24g lighter. Both have large QHD+ screens and Samsung’s published estimate of up to 31 hours of video playback. The Ultra is the upgrade to choose if its camera reach, stylus, or privacy feature solves a real need—not simply because it is the top model.
What do you gain with the Galaxy S26 Ultra?
The Ultra’s meaningful differences are specific tools rather than a wholesale change in what the phone does. It adds a 5x telephoto camera, a higher-resolution main camera, an S Pen, and a built-in Privacy Display. It also has a slightly larger screen and higher listed battery capacity and wired-charging wattage.

More camera options, especially for distant subjects
The S26+ has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP 3x telephoto. The Ultra has a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, a 10MP 3x telephoto, and an additional 50MP 5x telephoto, according to Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement.

The extra 5x camera gives the Ultra a dedicated longer-zoom option that the Plus does not list. That is the clearest reason to upgrade if you often photograph distant subjects. The specifications alone do not establish that every Ultra photo will look better, or how the two phones compare in real-world image quality.

An S Pen for writing and precise input
The S26 Ultra includes an S Pen; the S26+ does not. The pen is useful if you already take handwritten notes, annotate documents, sketch, or make precise selections on your phone. If those are not regular tasks, its inclusion may not change your daily use.
A built-in Privacy Display
The Ultra is the model in this comparison with Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display. Consider it if limiting screen visibility to people beside you in public is a recurring concern. It is a feature distinction, not evidence that the Ultra has better overall display quality.

A slightly larger screen and higher listed charging specs
The Ultra’s display measures 6.9 inches diagonally, compared with 6.7 inches on the Plus. Both are listed as QHD+ displays. Samsung UK lists up to 31 hours of video playback for each model, so the published estimate does not show a playback-time advantage for the Ultra (Samsung UK comparison).

What does the Galaxy S26+ give up—and keep?
The Plus lacks the Ultra’s listed 5x telephoto camera, S Pen, and Privacy Display. In return, it is smaller in every listed dimension and weighs less. Samsung’s reported dimensions are 158.4 × 75.8 × 7.3mm and 190g for the Plus, compared with 163.6 × 78.1 × 7.9mm and 214g for the Ultra (Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter interim report).
That is a 24g weight difference, alongside a shorter, narrower, and thinner body. The Plus still offers a 6.7-inch QHD+ display, so choosing it does not mean dropping to a compact-screen model.

For U.S. configurations, a comparison reports the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip and 12GB starting RAM in both phones. Those listed specs do not make the Ultra an obvious everyday speed upgrade (Which Samsung’s comparison). Processor and memory configurations may differ by market, so check the local model before buying.

Best Value
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Whether that premium is worthwhile depends on whether you will use the Ultra’s exclusive features. A lower sale price can narrow the gap, but it does not make a rarely used pen or zoom camera more useful. Also weigh the Ultra’s larger, heavier body against the Plus’s easier-to-carry size.
Which Galaxy S26 should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if…
- You regularly photograph distant subjects and want a dedicated 5x telephoto option.
- You will use the S Pen for notes, annotation, drawing, or precise input.
- You have a recurring need for the built-in Privacy Display.
- You prefer the larger 6.9-inch screen and accept the Ultra’s added size and weight.
Choose the Galaxy S26+ if…
- You want a large QHD+ Galaxy screen in a lighter, smaller phone.
- You do not have a regular use for the Ultra’s 5x camera, S Pen, or Privacy Display.
- You would rather avoid paying the reported U.S. price premium for features you may not use.
If you are tempted by a “free” or heavily discounted Ultra upgrade, decide based on the phone you will carry and the features you will actually use. The Plus remains the more compact choice; the Ultra’s larger body comes with its exclusive tools.
