The Galaxy S26 is the stronger default if you want 256GB of base storage, a newer processor and a slightly larger screen. The Galaxy S25 may be the better buy if it costs substantially less where you shop or you prefer a smaller, lighter phone. The available price figures are US launch prices, not October 2026 deals, so today’s local price should decide the value question.

Which phone is the better buy?
Choose the Galaxy S26 if its price premium is acceptable
The S26 starts with 256GB in the reported US launch configuration, compared with 128GB for the S25. On a like-for-like 256GB launch-price comparison, Tom’s Guide lists the S26 at $899 and the S25 at $859.99—a $40.01 difference. That is a launch comparison, not a quote for what either phone costs today.

The S26 also has the newer regional processor options, a slightly larger display and more battery capacity on paper. These are tangible spec-sheet advantages, but the supplied figures do not establish faster everyday performance or longer real-world battery life.

Choose the Galaxy S25 if it is meaningfully cheaper or size matters more
The S25 is 5g lighter and has a 6.2-inch display rather than the S26’s 6.3-inch screen. The difference is modest, but it points to the S25 for someone who prioritizes a more compact, lighter phone. A sufficiently large discount can also make it the better value; there is no verified October 2026 checkout price here to set a universal discount threshold.
What changes—and what does not
Display and handling
Samsung lists the S26 display at 6.3 inches with FHD+ resolution of 2340 × 1080, and its body at 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2mm and 167g. Tom’s Guide lists the S25 at 6.2 inches and 162g. The S26 gives you a little more screen; the S25 is the slightly smaller, lighter option.

Cameras
Tom’s Guide lists the same headline rear-camera arrangement for both base models: a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto with 3x zoom. Matching headline specifications do not prove identical image quality, and no independent base-model camera test results are established here.

Keep claims about the S26 Ultra separate: Samsung’s UK comparison says the Ultra’s 200MP f/1.4 main camera is 47% brighter than the S25 Ultra’s. That is Samsung’s claim about the Ultra models, not evidence of the same upgrade in the standard S26.

Battery and charging
The S26’s listed 4,300mAh capacity is larger than the S25’s 4,000mAh. Tom’s Guide lists 25W wired and 15W wireless charging for both. Capacity alone cannot establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use; a controlled runtime comparison would be needed for that conclusion.
Processor and regional versions
Tom’s Guide lists the S26 with either Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600, depending on region, while the S25 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. If you are buying imported or marketplace stock, confirm the processor in the exact regional model rather than assuming every S26 has the same chip.

Software and Galaxy AI
Samsung positions the S26 as its latest Galaxy AI generation, and its UK comparison identifies One UI 8.5 for the S26. The available information does not establish a complete S25-versus-S26 software-support-duration comparison or the regional availability of individual AI features. Check Samsung’s local product details for the features and support terms that matter to you.
Availability and price context
Samsung’s UK comparison says the S26 series was announced on 25 February 2026 and became generally available on 11 March 2026. Those dates describe Samsung’s UK account and should not be treated as the sale schedule or terms in every market. Samsung’s UK comparison
