Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with initial availability beginning September 18. That makes it the relevant Pro Max model for a current comparison with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. iPhone 18 Pro Max
Apple lists a 48 MP main camera with variable aperture. Apple says the aperture can adjust automatically and that users can manually control aperture, shutter speed and white balance. Megapixels alone do not settle camera quality. Think separately about zoom, low-light stills, portraits, video, editing workflow and the color rendering you prefer. The available evidence does not establish a controlled, current-generation head-to-head camera winner, so choose based on the camera capabilities and workflow that matter to you rather than the headline megapixel counts.

Display and privacy
Samsung advertises a 6.9-inch display for the S26 Ultra and highlights its Privacy Display feature. Apple’s official specifications page is the source for iPhone 18 Pro Max display details. A screen-size figure or a privacy feature by itself does not establish which display looks better overall; a fair quality comparison needs comparable measurements. The S Pen is a meaningful reason to consider the Galaxy if you annotate documents, sketch or prefer stylus input. Before purchase, verify S Pen availability and what is included in the specific market and package you are considering. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is the more natural fit if your work and personal routines already depend on iOS and Apple services. Neither preference is a universal productivity advantage.

Battery: do not mistake Apple’s playback figure for a head-to-head result
Apple states that eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max models provide up to 45 hours of video playback. That is Apple’s own qualified claim for those models, not an independent test and not a matched comparison with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It also does not translate directly into a prediction of how long either phone will last in your day. The evidence here does not establish a battery-life winner under comparable conditions. At announcement, Apple listed a US starting price of $1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro Max, with 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB configurations. That figure alone cannot show which phone is the better value. Compare the current price of the S26 Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro Max in your country at the same storage capacity, and account for retailer discounts, carrier terms and any trade-in. No like-for-like current Samsung price is established here, so a price winner would be premature.

Check your ecosystem before switching
List the devices and services you use every day: phone, computer, watch, earbuds, messaging, photo library, cloud storage and purchased apps. If those already center on Apple or Samsung, staying in that environment may be the least disruptive choice. If you are switching, check compatibility and migration needs for the specific services you rely on; the product specifications alone do not quantify the cost or friction of moving.
