Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: Six Months On, the Trade-Offs I’d Actually Mention

Six months into using the Galaxy S26 Ultra, owner-reviewer Josh Teder says he is still looking for a flaw worth mentioning—but his account is not a claim that the phone is flawless. His clearest complaint is the 10 MP 3x camera, which he says he rarely uses because he usually jumps to the 50 MP 5x optical camera. Privacy Display is the headline differentiator, while its narrower off-angle visibility is an intentional trade-off. The available review excerpt does not establish a measured battery-health result, so battery aging cannot be judged from it.

What does six months of use reveal?

Josh Teder says he bought the Galaxy S26 Ultra and had used it for six months when he wrote his review. His headline—still looking for a flaw worth mentioning—is a subjective verdict from one owner, not a laboratory finding or proof that every unit will behave the same way. The specific weakness he identifies is the 3x camera; the privacy feature also asks users to accept reduced visibility from the side.

Samsung’s UK specification describes a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh. The full-rectangle measurement is 6.9 inches; Samsung says the measurement is 6.7 inches when rounded corners are accounted for. The phone is listed at 214 g and 7.9 mm thick, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, Android 16 and One UI 8.5. Those are manufacturer specifications, not observations from Teder’s six-month use. Samsung’s UK Galaxy S26 Ultra specifications.

Is Privacy Display a meaningful advantage?

Privacy Display is the S26 Ultra’s distinctive feature: it can limit what people see when looking at the screen from an angle. That can be useful when reading sensitive content in a public place, but the reduced off-angle visibility is the mechanism, not a defect that can be eliminated without giving up the privacy effect. Tom’s Guide says the feature can be toggled and customized for selected apps or notification areas. Tom’s Guide’s Galaxy S26 Ultra review.

There is also a disputed brightness comparison. In Tom’s Guide’s test, the S26 Ultra reached 1,806 nits HDR brightness, versus 1,860 nits for the S25 Ultra. The outlet reported that Samsung shared different results and said it planned a retest, so those figures should be read as that outlet’s method-specific measurement—not a settled, universal finding that the newer phone is dimmer. This matters most to buyers weighing privacy against screen visibility and brightness, rather than to anyone expecting a privacy screen to look identical from every angle.

How does the camera system hold up?

Teder’s complaint is specific: he says the dedicated 10 MP 3x camera is the lens he uses least. “Honestly, I’ve barely used it,” he wrote, explaining that he usually skips it and moves to the 50 MP 5x optical camera. He says he would not miss the 3x camera. That is one owner’s shooting pattern, not evidence that the lens is useless for every user; a 3x option can still suit framing needs between the main camera and a longer zoom.

In an update dated September 28, 2026, Teder noted reports that a future Ultra model might remove the 3x camera, but Samsung had not confirmed that change. It remains an unconfirmed report, not an announced product decision. Teder’s six-month owner review.

Other camera comparisons are also scenario-dependent. Tom’s Guide reported stronger zoom and low-light examples in its comparison with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but weaker macro detail and occasional oversaturation. Those findings describe that outlet’s tests and preferences, not a universal ranking across every scene or user. For a buyer deciding whether the S26 Ultra suits them, the useful question is whether they value 5x reach and low-light performance more than a frequently useful 3x portrait or general-purpose framing option.

What can be said about battery life after six months?

The available six-month account does not establish a battery-degradation measurement or a detailed endurance result. It therefore cannot support a claim that Teder’s battery held up exceptionally well, nor that its capacity declined by a particular amount. Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh typical capacity and a 4,855 mAh rated minimum; capacity figures describe the battery specification, not its condition after six months or the hours an individual will get per charge. Samsung cautions that actual battery life varies with usage and network conditions. Samsung’s UK specifications.

Samsung advertises wired charging of up to 75% in around 30 minutes with a 60 W adapter, sold separately. The stated rate is a manufacturer claim and depends on using the specified adapter; it is not a promise that every charge session will take exactly that long. To compare endurance meaningfully with another flagship, look for tests using the same conditions or compare your own typical workload—not battery capacity alone.

Has the S Pen become useful?

Teder raised the S Pen as one of the questions behind his review, but the available account does not establish a specific use he found for it. It would be misleading to infer that he adopted a particular workflow or that the stylus either proved essential or went unused. Buyers who value an integrated stylus should treat it as a capability to assess against their own note-taking, markup or precision-input habits, rather than as a six-month finding from this account.

Which ownership details matter beyond the headline features?

  • Durability rating: Samsung lists IP68. Its stated test covers submersion in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes, and the company cautions that resistance may diminish with normal wear. This does not mean the phone is immune to water damage in every circumstance. Samsung’s UK specifications.
  • Software support: Samsung Electronics states that the phone receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. This manufacturer commitment is not a guarantee that any particular app, carrier feature or service will remain available for that period. Samsung’s environmental report.
  • Connectivity and storage: Samsung’s UK specification lists 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Storage configurations include 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, depending on market and carrier, so the exact local options should be checked before purchase.
  • Size and feel: At 214 g and 7.9 mm, the phone is large but relatively thin and light for its category. TechRadar described it as thinner and lighter than the S25 Ultra in its launch-era review; that is a comparison of physical design, not evidence about six-month durability. Who is likely to be satisfied with it?

The S26 Ultra makes the most sense for someone who wants a large high-resolution display, long-range optical zoom, an integrated S Pen and Samsung’s stated long software-support window—and who finds Privacy Display useful enough to accept reduced off-angle visibility. The main documented camera reservation is more personal: if you rely on 3x framing for portraits or everyday shots, Teder’s habit of skipping that lens should not be treated as a reason you will do the same.

  • Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
  • Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
  • Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
  • 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
  • Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).

For a decision against another flagship, compare privacy and brightness together; how often you use 3x versus 5x zoom; macro, low-light and color-rendering preferences; battery life under comparable use; charging speed and whether the adapter is included; size and stylus support; and the length of software support. The evidence available here does not provide a matched six-month battery comparison, so it cannot settle endurance against a rival.
