The Xiaomi 17 is smaller and lighter, with a higher stated battery capacity and faster charging; the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has a much larger display, separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras, and an integrated S Pen. The right choice depends on whether you value compact handling and charging specifications or screen size, zoom options, and stylus features. The available launch prices do not establish a current, like-for-like price gap.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Xiaomi 17 at a glance

Xiaomi’s “optical-level” wording should not be treated as identical to Samsung’s optical-camera descriptions.
Front camera 12MP 50MP Megapixel counts alone do not establish selfie quality.
Battery and charging 5,000mAh typical capacity; Samsung’s US launch material says up to 65% in around 30 minutes with a 45W adapter and USB-C cable 6,330mAh typical capacity; 100W wired and 50W wireless charging claimed Xiaomi publishes higher capacity and charging rates. These specifications do not prove longer real-world battery life.
Platform at announcement Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (regional Samsung material may use different wording); Android 15 / One UI 7 Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5; HyperOS 3 on Xiaomi’s product page Chip naming and software versions do not substitute for comparable benchmark testing; features and versions can change.
Memory and storage 12GB RAM; 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB options; Samsung says memory options vary by market Xiaomi’s cited global page does not clearly show a complete global storage matrix; regional specifications show 12GB + 512GB Confirm the exact regional model before comparing prices or compatibility.
Water and dust resistance IP68; Samsung describes lab submersion in up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes IP68; Xiaomi describes lab conditions in up to 4m of static freshwater for up to 30 minutes The different maker-described lab conditions do not show that one phone is more waterproof. Both warn that resistance is not unconditional or permanent.
Distinctive extras Integrated S Pen; Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 listed Wi-Fi 7 readiness and Bluetooth 6.0 listed; regional support may vary The S Pen may matter for handwriting, markup, and other stylus workflows. Connectivity depends on the local model and network equipment.

Which phone is better for your priorities?

Choose the Xiaomi 17 for compact handling and charging specifications

At 191g and 71.8mm wide, the Xiaomi 17 is the smaller, lighter option on the published dimensions. Its 6,330mAh typical battery capacity and claimed 100W wired / 50W wireless charging rates are also higher than the S25 Ultra’s stated capacity and charging figures. Those are specification differences, not evidence of longer runtime or a faster charge in every real-world setup.

Choose the Galaxy S25 Ultra for a large screen, dedicated zoom cameras, or the S Pen

The S25 Ultra’s 6.9-inch display gives it a substantially larger viewing area than the Xiaomi 17’s 6.3-inch screen. Its camera specifications list separate 3x and 5x telephoto modules, and it includes an integrated S Pen. These features make it the more directly suited option if you specifically want a large display, those stated zoom steps, or stylus-based note-taking and markup.

Do not choose on megapixels or chip names alone

The Xiaomi’s front camera has more listed megapixels, while Samsung’s main rear camera has a higher listed megapixel count. Neither figure by itself establishes which phone takes better photographs. Likewise, the processors’ names and generations do not reveal comparative speed, heat, or sustained performance. The cited manufacturer specifications do not provide a controlled head-to-head camera, battery, or benchmark test.

What is the price difference?

The available figures are launch references from different markets and dates, not current prices or a direct comparison. Samsung announced a US starting price of $1,299.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S25 Ultra in January 2025. Xiaomi Corporation disclosed a global Xiaomi 17 launch starting price of EUR 999 for its February 2026 global event. Different currencies, markets, launch dates, and potentially storage configurations mean these figures cannot be subtracted to produce a meaningful price difference.

To compare what you would pay, choose your country and compare current listings for the same storage capacity. Samsung says memory configurations vary by market; Xiaomi says product models and sale dates can vary by region. Verify the exact SKU, storage, warranty, network bands, software features, and local seller terms before buying.

Battery, charging, and durability: how to read the specifications

Capacity and charging rates are not runtime tests

Samsung lists a 5,000mAh typical battery, while Xiaomi lists 6,330mAh typical capacity and charging rates of 100W wired and 50W wireless. Xiaomi also publishes its internal-lab figures of 29.2 hours of video playback and at least 80% battery health after 1,600 charging cycles. Those are Xiaomi-reported results, with outcomes that can vary; they are not comparable tests against the Samsung phone. Samsung’s US launch material says the S25 Ultra can reach up to 65% in around 30 minutes using a 45W adapter and USB-C cable. Charger availability and charging conditions matter, so check what is included with the local SKU; Xiaomi says to confirm adapter inclusion with the seller and that wireless chargers are sold separately.

IP68 does not mean risk-free immersion

Both manufacturers list IP68 resistance and describe specific laboratory freshwater conditions, but the stated depths differ. Those descriptions do not establish a comparative waterproof ranking or guarantee protection in ordinary use. Samsung and Xiaomi caution that resistance can diminish or should not be treated as normal-use assurance.

What to verify before buying

  • Match the storage capacity and regional model when comparing current prices.
  • Check network-band compatibility, warranty coverage, and whether the software features you need are available in your market.
  • Confirm the box contents with the local seller, especially the charging adapter; Xiaomi says wireless chargers are sold separately.
  • Look for independent, controlled reviews if battery endurance, camera results, or sustained performance will decide your purchase. Manufacturer specifications alone cannot settle those comparisons.
