The Samsung Galaxy S25 is a good fit if you want a lightweight, compact Android flagship with a fast processor, a high-refresh display, and long stated software support. Its main drawbacks are incremental camera hardware, limited 3x telephoto reach, and modest 25W wired charging. For Galaxy S24 owners, the case to upgrade is weak unless a specific new feature or a favorable deal matters to you.
What this review covers
This is the base Galaxy S25, not the S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, or S25 FE. Its appeal is less about a major redesign than about putting flagship performance and Samsung’s current software experience into a small, light phone.

Compact and light without giving up flagship performance
The 6.2-inch screen and 162g weight make the S25 easier to handle than larger flagship phones. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor is another strength: Android Central’s reviewer found it powerful in normal use. That review also observed throttling during sustained stress testing, so peak performance should not be confused with unlimited performance under prolonged heavy workloads.

A useful camera mix for everyday subjects
The rear system combines a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. That gives the compact phone a dedicated zoom option, but it is not a major hardware leap over earlier Galaxy generations. The 3x lens also offers less reach than the 5x telephoto cameras found on some compact rivals, which matters if you often photograph distant subjects. Reviews from Android Central, Tom’s Guide, and The Guardian characterize the camera changes as incremental.
Long stated software support
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Product Environmental Report states seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. This is a useful long-term ownership commitment, though it does not guarantee that every feature will arrive on every model at the same time. Galaxy AI features are also not necessarily a lasting reason to upgrade if they later reach older Galaxy phones.

Where the S25 falls short
Battery life depends on your routine
The 4,000mAh battery is smaller than the batteries in the larger S25 models. Android Central’s reviewer reported all-day use and more than six hours of screen-on time in a mixed-use routine. That is one reviewer’s result, not a promise: screen brightness, signal strength, apps, and workload can change battery life substantially.

Wired charging is rated at 25W, with 15W wireless charging. In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 test using a Samsung 25W charger, the S25 reached 28% after 15 minutes and 57% after 30 minutes. Those are that publication’s test results under its stated setup, not a guaranteed charge rate for every charger or condition.

The hardware update is modest
The S25’s design and core hardware changes are iterative, and reviewers report that the rear camera hardware carries over from earlier generations. Its strengths are the compact form, processor, and software package rather than a dramatic camera or charging upgrade.
Who should buy the Galaxy S25?
- Consider it if you want a compact, light Android flagship, value Samsung’s software experience, and want a dedicated 3x telephoto camera.
- Look elsewhere if longer telephoto reach or faster wired charging is a priority. Compare phones on camera reach, real-world battery routine, charging, software support, and current price—not just processor specifications.
- Check before purchase which storage configuration and connectivity options are sold in your region, and compare the live price for the exact unlocked or carrier model you want.
Android Central reported US launch prices of $799.99 for 128GB and $859.99 for 256GB, and a February 7, 2025 release. Those are historical launch prices, not current October 2026 prices. The review evidence does not establish today’s price, stock, or regional offers.

Should Galaxy S24 owners upgrade?
For most S24 owners with a working phone, the incremental hardware changes make an automatic upgrade difficult to justify. The S25 makes more sense if you specifically want its newer processor or current Galaxy AI and software experience, are changing to a compact flagship, or can get a favorable current price after trade-in. That recommendation follows from the published reviews, not independent hands-on testing.
